But who decides if it is the best ? I am certain that all the good map makers do it for the love of the art, and in the spirit of the community, and certainly not for any financial gain. By offering even 10 cents US, you are suggesting that a skilled and dedicated map maker on any of the sites, would want to win a prize for his creation, or that the website would condone such a thing. I do not think you understand the spirit of mutual support, and appreciation of the talent and skills, shown on this website or any other SC4 fansite.

Did u read the ENTIRE post? Obviously you missed the point of it. I have downloaded several of their mapps and am very happy with their work. One thing I have learned in this world is that money doesn't talk, it screams. I have become so frustrated trying to make it myself that I need some outside help. Now if u think this is some kind of contest or something you couldn't be more wrong. I have money left over in my budget this month and I know the mapp sguad would not throw it back in my face if I donated to them to show my undying graditude for their hard, beautiful work. And I'm pretty sure the admins wouldn't mind as I will be donating to their upgrade fund as well.
Oh yeah that reminds me, Your profile doesn't have anything in the:how have YOU given to this site slot. I have given several donations.

So next time you try to slam someone for showing their gratitude what are YOU doing. Or shall I say, before you take the splinter out of someones eye, take the log out of your's.

Now don't go and get all mad at me. I see you are new at this site and that was not the proper greeting, so welcome aboard!44.gif And I would like to help you in any way I can, if you have any questions PM me and I can propably help you to the right person to help you. So have a bunny on me!35.gif

Thats a nice reply wagus, you used a line about splinters and logs, so I will if I may, use the same sorta line.  The proof of the pudding is in the eating in other words, if what you propose is good, then the mapmakers will take you up on your offer, challenge, or whatever they envisage it to be.

Heres a bunny back to you 35.gif

Financial donations to the site, are not the only way to keep it going I might add. I have contributed to the site, without using money, I disagree that money talks, or screams as you say. But if I had contributed financially, I would not brag about it, and would do it anonymously. My contribution, so far very small, is a map. I am giving to the site, for the benefit of all, and ask for nothing in return, other than the respect and perhaps appreciation, from the members, for my selfless contributions. The greatest gift, that anyone can give, is of themselves, with all thier skills, talents, and compassions. There are dozens of people on this website, who do exactly that. Thier names, and therefore roll of honour, are found amongst the STEX pages.

Have a nice day wagus 35.gif

Well thank you. I'm getting a little off topic here, but, I am planning to make an amazing CJ out of this area witch u and your greenpeace guys will probably enjoy. I don't want to spoil the surprise though. It will be one of a kind.

See, I lived there for almost 7 years and it was the most amazing experiance. Words cannot explain it. In fact, the first time I was there we had a run in with a more (radical) group of greenpeace boats. No offence. But its impossible to turn an aircraft carrier around in a small channel to avoid protestors. Sadly we no choice but to run them over. No one got hurt though, but this was right after 9/11 and the Cole so we had to take them down as if they were terrorists. 8.gif Can't be to sure now a days!22.gif

u have a nice day 2
hope to see u in the forums again

It seems that the Saint John request has been filled. So I'm back with another request:

How about a nice scale map of St. Pierre and Miquelon Islands? For those of you who don't know where this is, it's a French territory just off the south coast of Newfoundland. Hypothetical cookies to anyone who makes this!

Fishstix

Are you asking for a map with accurate topography, or simply one that is scale accurate ?
If you are looking for simple scale accuracy, I will be pleased to attempt such a map for you (or anyone else)
Please view my Northern Med map on the STEX to get an idea of what can be made.

Fishstix

Thanks for the reply. I am currently working on a scale accurate, and hopefully, a little topographicaly accurate map, of both North and South Islands of New Zealand. I will be uploading soon a scale accurate map of Scandinavia, and north eastern Europe 35.gif

I need a very accurate map for my upcoming tribute to new orleans CJ, found here

The google map below shows the general map area I would like to include... this is a large section of southeast louisiana, not only New Orleans... it will be a very large map and project. (I've hosted the image below on another site)

I need a great map! Thank you for your help!

lospantalones

A scale accurate map showing the lakes and major rivers would be easy enough to make. I shall add such a map to my list. Can you tell me what size of map you would like - obviously the bigger the map the more detail can be placed upon it.

fishstix

The New Zealand map will be realeased shortly, but it will be both North and South Islands. If you find it to be not specific enough, I will at a later date, endeavour to create your city specific maps.

EDIT - I have located a satellite image of the New Orleans area, and have matched the scale of the street map placed by lospantalones. As a tribute to the survivors of the recent hurricane, and to the courageous people of New Orleans, and surrounding districts, I will be honoured to create the map on which lospantalones will build his CJ.

In God We Trust

2nd Edit - This has been a difficult map in which to maintain a balance between accuracy and in game playability. In order to get as much detail as possible its been necessary to make it a fairly big map. Due to the inherant limitations of the rendering engine, any smaller map obliterates the rivers. The only way to get round that would be to make the rivers considerably wider than they actually are - thereby losing any accuracy.
The only problem I foresee, will be the constructing of what appears on the satellite image, to be a bridge running north south across the large body of water in the center. Due to the size of the map, the bridge would have to go across in game City borders and of course the game is unable to do that. It has been a little frustrating trying to accomodate all actual features on this map - but I trust I have been able to create a reasonable compromise.
Here is the rendered version 127 35.gif

NewOrleansss.jpg

If this map is OK, I will upload it to the STEX. If not, I will keep trying until it IS OK

Fantastic map! Just what I looking for... the bigger the better (I'm going for accuracy)
Thank you for paying attention to the details, and keying me into your thought process. You are a very talented map-maker.
Please upload the map to the exchange... I'm excited to get working on this project!

Pants

I was thinking perhaps of adding a very thin strip of land, on which to build the causeway - if it is in fact a causeway and not a bridge. It was a little difficult to tell from the satellite image I used, and I regret that I am not familiar with this part of the USA. This of course could be done ingame, but if you wish, I can ammend the map, which you could then download again 35.gif35.gif

In God we Trust

Regards

Justin

Hmm... I notice a lot of requests for various locales... I guess many people do not 'request' an imaginary terrain. Oh well. I suppose I'll find time to render one or two of those. Also, I may try to get the topography as well.

Cheers, y'all

Can someone please make to-scale map of the Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas area. I am looking forward to starting a CJ on K.C. but the only other map of Kansas City that i have found does not have accurate terrain, it's all flat. It would be greatly appreciated if this map could be made. Kansas City is my hometown and, like i said, im looking forward to starting a CJ on the city. Thanks in advance.

A scale version of Baltimore, MD including the northern suburbs, but not as far south as Annapolis, not east as Harve de Grace, and not west of Ellicot City, or at least this much 1.gif-

Rushman

Ive been looking at the eastern seaboard of USA from New York south. I am trying to make a map of the Carolina's coast, but its proving very difficult due to the myriad of inlets and marshland in North Carolina. The coast of Maryland looks a lot easier to create, so I will put your map on the drawing board and have a tinker with it 44.gif

I've no knowledge of the unique challenges and pitfalls of mapmaking, so please stop me if I request something impractical, or if I'm not making any sense!  :-)

I'd really like to see a map of Minneapolis-St. Paul that's both USGS-accurate and EL GIGANTICO (14x14 or 16x16 large city tiles.)  This is because I'm an obsessive realist when it comes to city design... my latest avocation is imitating the Midwestern American suburb... and MSP has TONS o' them in all directions.  If possible, please center it somewhere around the GPS coordinates of 44-54N and 93-31W -- southwest of downtown Minneapolis -- as this will hopefully allow my hometown of Prior Lake to make it into the region.  :-)

As a secondary request, I'd like to suggest Ames, IA, which can probably be done in either 2x2 or 4x4 large cities (though city-tile boundary placement will be crucial, owing to the city's irregular, out-in-all-directions morphology, and the several small creeks and rivers that cut through it.)  If anyone undertakes this project and has any questions about the city, please PM me, as I lived there for five years.  :-)

Thanks for your time in reading this... I hope to see MSP on the STEX!  :-D
