    49.gif Update 29

    Ridgefield Expands

Utora and Mentarman - Thanks for commenting!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have seen some nice expansion in Ridgefield since the last update. Some of the newest additions to Ridgefield include:
    • An official airport
    • The construction of Manetto Hill Island
    • A small city college campus
    • New commercial zones

    <ahttp://img212.imageshack.us/img212/6594/ridgefieldjul86011210350626to.jpg align=baseline>

Manetto Hill is one of the newest neighborhoods in the city. It is a bedroom island; only residential zones are located in Manetto Hill. Residents commute off the island to nearby offices in downtown.

    History

In 1642, the Kavine tribe set foot on a long journey north of their main city, Covina. (The Kavine tribe first settled in Covina in the 1500's.) They approached this large hill sitting in a barren field. The hill became home to thousands of Kavines, but later the area was invaded by another tribe, the Manettois. They soon received control of the hill and its surroundings, and forced the Kavines to the west. They christened the hill Manettoi Hill in 1756, and the area prospered, mainly with a backbone economy of agriculture. In 1904, the hill was changed from Manettoi to Manetto, and modern sprawl began in and around the area of the hill. Today, the hill is recognized and surrounded by a shallow manmade canal, and is home to hundreds of middle class Ridgefielders.

    Manetto Hill Today

Manetto Hill was surrounded by a shallow canal in 1956, to isolate the high class citizens from the low class citizens. But when a working middle class was formed, the first class citizens vanished, and Manetto Hill opened doors for middle class Sims. It sits 4 miles north of the city center, with great proximity to the highway and major throughfares in the city.

Manetto Hill has its own Rite Aid located across the street from Cantwell Park, the neighborhood's official park.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Ridgefield Public Airport

Ridgefield has built its own public airport. It handles up to 68,700 per month, a higher capacity than any other small municipal airport in the state. It is located 6 miles north of the city center.

    New City College

Ridgefield Community College has been built north of the city off Highway 276. The college is located in a major business section of the city.

    That's it for now!
    Comments are welcomed!

P.S. Can anyone explain to me why there are no cars in the parking lots? I have all my settings on high and I snapshot at the right time of day for cars to be there. In fact, I never see any cars in the parking lots, and it says they are being used! If anyone can help me, that would be appreciated.

Thatmonkeysim - Thanks for commenting... I made that with the recorder tool in Sim City 4. Then I took the frames from the recorder tool, sequenced them in Flash MX, and exported it as an animated gif image. But I had to delete multiple frames because the original product came out to be 6MB! So now its at 1MB so i deleted like the whole product. That's why it refreshes so quickly.

Haven't seen an update here in so long. It's nice to see a new update from you mikeaut. 48.gif

As usual, your suburbs have that distinctive green, gray and blue look to it. Very nice and detailed. Keep it up!!

Btw, that hill looks a little out of place IMO. 19.gif

Wow, Manetto hill is just a wonderful place to live; it's beautiful! Also like the teaser pics of update 9, the overviews show a very perfectionist layout, I love the symmetry of it! Got a question, though: how did you create the animated views? they're great!

To All: Since so many people want to know how to do the .gif animations, I will write an omnibus article on it. I'll post here when it is up!

thatmonkeysim - Yeah, I left two admins a PM about me contributing to the omnibus.

creature - Welcome to Simtropolis! 39.gif THanks for visiting this CJ btw!

scififan68 - Glad you like the pictures. Also .gif format isn't the only format that can handle animation. Basic flash cartoons are .swf files (Shockwave). But .swf doesn't work on our forums 1.gif.

Compromise - Yeah, hopefully I'll be able to write the article soon.

To ALL: I will post here when I get the article written; I know many of you are eager to know how to animate. I want to write it in the Omnibus so I could attract some more people on Simtropolis. Also, just to mention, animations work on Microsoft Movie Maker, which I think almost everyone has. I use Flash MX 2004 Professional. But I know for a fact that there is freeware on the internet that will let you create streaming animations. Also, expect an update tomorrow for sure! 10.gif
