Heiliger Bimbam! 25.gif

Ich hatte mit einem absoluten Anfänger-BAT gerechnet, und was sehe ich? Ein Kunstwerk!

(I had expected to see an absolute $%&^! BAT, and what do I see? A piece of art!)

Where the heck did you come from all of a sudden and what did you do before? Don't tell me this is the first time you BAT something, 'cuz if it is, you must be a natural talent.

Wow, I'm looking forward to seeing more... and such a well-chosen landmark, too!

Oops, almost forgot in all my excitement: Willkommen im Simtropolis-Forum! 1.gif (Na gut, seit Januar 05 dabei, aber jetzt erst der erste Beitrag - und was für einer!)

OMG, remarkable ! ! ! ! ! no matter how realistic this ends up looking, you get five stars for recreating (only recently rebuilt itself ) one of my favorite Baroque Churches !

I'm truly impressed, I really can see your talent, but here's an advice I think could help you: If what you've said is true, you are still a begginner, this project is amazing and really beautiful, and I'm very exited about it (I tell you this as an architecture and a Bach admirer) , but, taking your lack of experence, this might overisize your capacities. My recommendation is not to stop working on this, but take smaller projects of similar style, maybe two or three, before finishing this one; this way you'll gain experience, practice and technique, so the final product will be of much higher quality and will satisfact the most strict of the critics: yourself. And sometimes, this lack of experince could also cause a stagnation in the process, and we'll never see this project come to an end.

I'm telling you this because it has happened to me, about a year ago I made some projects without enough experience, now I'm seriously thinking about remaking them, but it will be a waste of time and attention from other projects. I now wish I had waited more before finishing them.

So far your progress is really very good, I specially like the shapes. But there are some details that could be polished and you will only get them right with practice and experience.

I hope this is helpful to you, if you have any doubts you can ask me or any of the amazing and talented baters in this comunity. My advice is to take it with calm, specially with such an awesome and demanding project, in order to get not a good, but an excellent result.

    @debussyman

Well yes, I'm dealing with the Programm for about 3 weeks und I startet to built this chruch one and a half week ago. I won't say i will never finish it, because i done so much just in this time, but you're right there are things i want to make better... but I know i'm just (a maybe good) beginner and i haven't to big expectations  to myself now and i have so much to learn 5.gif ....

But if you made this experience i will go and make some smaller projects first and then finish the chruch....

    Here are some older pics:

    The beginning:

The pics from the first post are nearly the most current pics and many faults you can see ond the older are repaired 1.gif

    Words of wisdome from Debussyman.

Again the church dome is looking good the base so far seems a bit short, the proportions not quite like the original. You might need to exaggerate the height of the walls.

Well, I worked again on the church 12.gif

Here is the most current pic: http://212.227.226.42/alt.jpg

I just tested textures of the original version but nevertheless you can see the new changes and extensions.

I think I will make 2 versions of the church ,one with old and one with new textures...

    OMG!

    MEINE GUETE!

    *argh*

    *faints*

*awakes a few minutes later, faints again, tries to awake*

That's simply gorgeous! And it's soooooooooooooooooo good to see someone going the same BAT-way like I do!!! The Frauenkirche looks damn impressive... I've seen the real one myself and compared yours to some of my selftaken pics... it's simply wowing me...

But to your problem: This is the so called "mirroring issue" which comes up on objects you're mirroring (surprising, isn't it? 2.gif). Unfortuatly I don't know anything against that, only making the object, that small wall part in your case, again without any mirroring. Best thing is that you never use mirroring at all, as nearly everytime this issue seems to affect the textures...

    Some other things:

On the version of the "new" church you need to retune the sandstone texture, it's WAY to bright. If you want I can give you a (IMO) good texture for that...

Also the top dome has some kind of "black glitch". But as I don't know with which technique you made it I unfortuatly can't serve you a solution for that... but sometimes smoothing and/or optimizing helps a bit against such things.

Thank you ,using smooth helped to repair the "black glitch".

It would nice if you send me the sandstone texture, so i can make also a good version of the reconstructed church 4.gif...

Ah, cool that smoothing helped... here btw are 2 of my favourite textures (I changed the colours a bit for your uses as they were a bit too yellow...). I also rendered small exampels what tey're like in GMAX.

I think these should fit very well.

Well, you've been busy! jeje. I'm really impressed by this BAT.

Now, If I may, I'd like to give out some pointers that might improve it:

-Weathering the old version: I love the texture, it fits like a glove, but it's a little too clean to be centuries old.

-I think you should have made the wooden window blinds instead of glass window panels in the towers, that way it would look more variated.

-Praiodan's texture is very nice, but I think it should be a little yellower. Anyways don't listen to me, I've never been to the actual place so I really wouldn't be able to give an exact appreciation.

-There are also some details missing, like capitels and balconies, but that's no crime, I know about the limitations of gmax and it would get laggy and impossible to work and/or render with that many polygons. It looks great the way it is.

Congratulations on your work and keep improving.

I tried Praiodan's textures but they didn't look like the new church, they are a bit too greeny :/

Some details like ornaments i omitted completly cause my experience was not sufficient 15.gif ,.... and the balconies i just forgot, maybee I still insert it.

To make more details is possibile, ther are only 86000 polygons....and yes, maybee i will make a little bit dirty 4.gif, i will see

But I think ,my first bat looks great because it is my first bat 9.gif

Hm, gut, die Texturen waren vielleicht wirklich ein Griff ins Klo45.gif

Anyway, I reworked them a bit, maybe they're now more useful. It's quite hard to find a fitting colour toning as the church itself is very bright, but as GMAX does brighten everything up even during the render it's simply a bit difficult...

But here are my second tries 21.gif

I tried on my own and think I have the right texture now

But at the new version the material on the windows is different from the top
