I have a question (kinda of a request)

Would it be possible for you to put a cover over that roof there and make it an indoor hockey rink? I really want one, and as many times as I try to make it myself it just turns out horrible. You don't ahve to, but it would be great if you did, and it would go along with the pool (a whole sports complex, perhaps?)

It looks amazing by the way, you just keep out-doing yourself! Good work!44.gif

Ach, that's a shame... but thanks for the reply...

But I still think a city planning bureau would be a good idea... could be linked to all the things a good city should have; size, low traffic, low pollution, high mayor rating...

A nice glass&steel building maybe... 19.gif

There are a couple older CSX Buildings that do just that.

And a variation on the Arena with a full roof could be done.  Let me think on it a bit.. A large hunk of green roof would be simple, but a bit boring.  Maybe some hazy skylights... no details below, but just to add some visual interest.. hmmm

Hows this look for a minor variation? Nothing major, so it's still very similar.

    Excellent! Thanks a lot!!!44.gif

You should make a few more things to go along with that, have a little recreation set, some sort of fitness centre or something, maybe is large running track, sports fields, etc.

If you want, totally up to you.

    Again, thanks!44.gif

I like the fact that they look similar, but still a little different... They'd work really well placed together in a sports complex type thing...

Simgoober, I'm having some trouble with your Clock Tower Train Station. It works fine at first, then after a little while, maybe ten minutes, people just stop using it. Train traffic at the station drops to zero. Other rail stations continue to operate. If I bulldoze your station and put the standard station back, the trains come back. Weird, huh?

I'm using the NAM with better pathfinding and 2X capacity. And Road Top Mass Transit. I don't think I have any other traffic-related mods.

Has anyone else reported a problem like this? I'll put the station back in the city and see if I can duplicate the problem or get any more clues on what's going on.

I'm a big fan of all your BATs. Sorry to post with a problem.

Actually, that happens with the standard stations too, I've found. It's a game bug, I believe, and something little can be done about except trying to force sims to use the trains.

yes, to the best of my knowledge, that is not a bug, but a feature of the game...  People use trains only if they find it to be the best way to get to where they want to go.  As the game goes on, sometimes the Sims decide they don't like the trains anymore, and move on.  Also, every time you plop a new transportation type lot, the game looks at how it fits into the pathfinding it is currently using.  It can take several months, or even a full year, before the game decided how it is really going to use this new lot, so things can change around..  then if you add more during that time, it does the same with them, so in a fast growing city, there can be a lot of flux in usage.

I tend to use trains mostly for long distance commutes, and between neighbors.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try it again and give it more time to re-calculate routes. And you know, maybe I don't need to remove the standard Grand Central Station - I'll put yours into a new location and just see what happens.

    It really does look awesome.

I have to agree with Yaya here. There is a problem with the clock tower station. Even when forced to use it, my citizens wouldn't. After replacing the station with the SG central station they did ... and I mean immediatley, thus before the pathfinder recalculated the traffic.

    Hello SimGoober,

I did not want to complain because I'm very happy with all the things you make but I see that I have the same problem with the ClockTowerStation as Yaya and Nicolais.

Let there be no mistake ... I am a HUGE fan of SG BAT's and use them in every city I build. This is also the first time I ever run into a problem with one of Simgoober's excellent work.

I also think I have discovered the problem. I opened the lot in SC4Tool and checked the transit switch point. Listed are 4 switches, namely:

    Outside to inside: Rail
    Inside to outside: rail
    Outside to inside: Freight train
    Inside to outside: Freight train

All 4 also have the value north/east/west/south.

Changing the switch points should fix the problem. I can do this myself, but I would like to ask Simgoober to correct the version thats on the STEX for other users.

Hey guys, no offense taken on this.  If there IS a bug, I want to figure it out and fix it.

All three lots use the same base exemplar, so the capacity and such are the same.  If one works, they all should.

However, after looking at the Transit Switching,  I am a bit confused. The Clock Tower has less entries than the other two have (they have car added?).  I am really not up much on these fields, so will do some investigating.  It might explain the problem , though it is sporadic; as I have had no issues with them on my system, nor have two other people I have spoken to.

I've tried putting two more of the clock tower stations in, and I still had problems. I do notice other train stations having a big change in usage, but they usually don't fall to zero and stay there.

Nicolai mentioned that there were rail-to-rail transfers when he looked at the properties. One of the stations in my city was in the middle of a rail line, with a second rail line connected. I did see traffic switching from the inside rail to the outside rail, but no sims were walking from the bus stop to the station and getting on the train, or getting off the train to switch to walk to a bus.

Is it necessary to specify a transfer for ped to rail, and rail to ped?

A standard TE'd rail station should have the following transit switch properties:

Pedestrians walk to the station and enter the trains/leave the trains and walk away:
outside to inside, all sides - pedestrians -> passenger rail
inside to outside, all sides - passenger rail -> pedestrians

Sims go to the station by car and enter the trains/leave the trains and drive away by car (Park & Ride):
outside to inside, all sides - car -> passenger rail
inside to outside, all sides - passenger rail -> car

Passenger trains can go through the station:
outside to inside, east-west or north-south* - passenger rail -> passenger rail
inside to outside, east-west or north-south* - passenger rail -> passenger rail

Freight trains can go through the station:
outside to inside, east-west or north-south* - passenger rail -> passenger rail
inside to outside, east-west or north-south* - passenger rail -> passenger rail

You can add more properties for providing bus access (integrated bus stop) etc.

Sims can go to the station by bus/leave the station by bus:
outside to inside, all sides - bus -> passenger rail
inside to outside, all sides - passenger rail -> bus

*depending how the tracks are orientated; east-west is parallel to the road that is displayed in the Lot Editor.
