Hmmm... SargeantCM, I thought i was going to do some other stuff, but now you have me intrigued....  I might even try doing a prop for the truck.... I'll play with it.

 

I am going to submit the Court House to Vlakhaas' BSC team fro modding.  I haven't done anything Civic before, and I want it to work right.

 

Also, from now on, I am going to try to upload all my lots and such on Mondays.  This will give me a set schedule, and besides, everyone needs something to look forward to on Mondays, right? 

 

I will be posting two things today.  One will be the BSC project I started on my old 7-Eleven lots.  This one worked out really well, there are 8 different varations of the building in a family, so they randomly show up.  There are also lots with and without fuel pumps or bowsers.  It should be up in an hour or less.

 

The other thing I am posting today is a tutorial.  I have figured out most of the steps (all I think), to modding a loandmark lot directly to a ploppable with jobs.  I will post it in the BSC forum area, as it is meant to help the community learn how to make better lots.

Nice work SG. I definitely want to see more of these townhouses since I prefer cities without those massive skyscraper's all over the map.

Ok Sargeant, you definitely got me going.  I was going to work on another townhouse (I still will, I'll make at least two more varieties, and post them together.  I had been thinking of making another grocery store, and incorpoarating it into a small shopping center....

This is obvoiusly still under construction.  Ignore the colors, I only applied a quick texture to the glass to play with the windows.  There is room for 4 small mom & pop stores on the ends.  It will take up most of 6 tiles wide as is, so it can still be growable.  I guess I could add a few more stores, to make a bigger center as a plop only.  I think it will end up 3 tiles deep, so a 6x3 growable is feasible, maybe a 6x4 as well with a row of parking in front.

 

I'm still planning to try making a truck as well.  If it comes out ok, I could use it as  template for other trucks for other lots.

SG, nice work on the Wegmans... but in real life they are probably a little bigger then the whole plaza you have there. The plazas they are in are genarly fairly large, same goes for the Tops stores. I hope this helps a little On another note my father is the head manager at a Tops near my house, I could ask him if he could get me the orginal demensions and you'd be able to apply that to the Wegmans since they are about the same size. Let me know if your interested in that. Also I think the entire lot should be something like 6x6. Thats just some of my ideas... good start!

Mexican.. Wegmans and Tops are Buffalo, NY based super markets... the largest in our area. They cover most of Western New York and Norther PA along with Northern Ohio.

Looking good!  I like the concept of the store-in-plaza too.  Looks like an older store, which is an appearance you usually don't get with all the BAT stuff coming out.  For constructive criticism (and my pics are largely to blame), the text on Wegmans is usually white, lit that dull red-orange color at night.  I suppose that would be easier now with the new Goldiva lighting effects!

 

The only thing I might ask, would it be possible to create a bigger stand-alone version as well?  Something along the lines of 6x5 tiles for the building alone (82667 sq.ft.).  Just saying because the newer of these stores are even bigger than 83000 and they're usually standalone.  The fact that they're not growable doesn't bother me, I don't mind plopping them myself.  I kinda see grocery stores as a thing that needs town approval anyways, and you can then control the placement and growth.  Same thing goes if you build the Tops, I can't recall ever seeing one of those in a plaza (at least not as long as I can clearly remember).

 

As for the trucks, that was kind of unintentional, but it's a great idea.  You could even update your Food Lion with a truck even.  If you attempt Tops, from my memory their trucks are usually plain shiny silver with the logo and name on the side in red, and usually some smaller text (such as [Tops] never stops...saving you more or Home of the Savings Cart, etc.) in royal blue.

 

Looking good though, and I've referenced you into my Operation Buffalo Wing thread.

Afro -just a correction, Wegmans is actually based in Rochester, NY. 

 

Mexican - Not knowing what you have out west, but if you had a Wegmans out there, I could almost guarantee you'd like them.  They're not the cheapest of grocery stores by any stretch, but they're not the most expensive either.  And as far as the Buffalo area, their produce is almost all locally grown, and is generally leaps and bounds better quality than anybody elses.  The only reason my parents shop more at Tops is because Wegmans is usually too crowded all day!

Hey Simgoober your work just keeps amazing me and i know your being flooded with requests but do you think you could consider a walmart super center. I know alot of people would really enjoy one. I know there is bacos and then theres that other guy who started on that was nearly perfect but then just dissapeared. I would really love to see a good wal mart realistic in size and stuf.

Simgoober, I know that you are working on Wegmans and stuff, but I have some grocery stores from the Washington DC area where I live.

Shoppers Food Warehouse is like a baby SAM'S CLUB, because you buy everything in bulk mostly, everything comes in large quantities.


I just wanted to give you a feel on how large these stores are

Wow, I guess everyone likes grocery stores!  These go together pretty quick, so I'll work on a couple more.  The Wegmans is about done actually, I got a little carried away while my daughter took her nap.  I am just researching  a little more on roof junk and HVAC units, as I keep using the same ones over and over.

 

On size, I know in the real world most of these are quite a bit bigger.  We have some monster sized ones where I live as well.  I made a couple bigger stores, but find that if they get too big, they really stand out in the SC4 environment, and don't blend in well.  Also, a lot of players want growables for the random effect (myself included, I hardly ever plop anything except to test them.), so I am trying to keep them in that size range.  Also, from the game perspective, all you see on these larger buildings is a big empty roof.  So I make them not as big as real life on purpose.  I think a 6x6 or 8x8 big square of roof won't do much for anyone.

 

Joerg: Personally, I don't much care for Walmart, as I know too much of the behind the scene stuff that goes on there (My employer deals with them a lot).  I guess I could do one, but I'd be tempted to make it catch fire every time it's built....

 

What would you all think of a generic building for a grocery store, with several different names available?  I could make a prop family to give a random change every time the building goes up, or better yet a building family.  With a building family it would still be the same building (or minor variation such as roof color), but you still can get a unique building name so it show up right in the description, at least I think that will work.... hmmm... gotta check now that I think of it.  They may end up with a generic name after all....

 SG, LOL you make it look so easy. The new store looks great as always. Perhaps instead of a Wal-mart you could toss the ideal of a K-mart or Roses. Maybe even a Zayres for the old timers who remember them. They would look great in a shopping center. Well hope this wets your creative appetite. Keep up the good work.

Hmm well seems everyone has something agaisnt wal mart these days. All i know and care is that i shop there and they have good deals. Im sure they are quite corrupt behind the scence but i dont know what corporation isnt. I will leave it at that. Also simgoober if your at all interested i could send my mall. I think im going to give up on it myself. But i think you might be able to have some fun with it.

Any other requests will be considered, but I am getting kind of strung out on these.  Any other brands will probably be just a different sign on an existing building.  Unless a really unique design comes up.

 

After these are done, I want to look at a couple restaurants.  I have a few around here that I have my eye on; a couple national chains and a couple local favorites.  These will be along the lines of the TGI Fridays which is already on the STEX.  No fast food ones, as there are already several, and I can only do so much.

 

Joerg, I appreciate the offer.  I might take you up on it someday, as it does sound interesting.  If you want to email the GMAX file to me, go ahead.  Just don't expect anything too soon.  Send it to : SimGoober@Cox.net  .  (Hey, Cox gave me 8 email addresses, so why not?).  As to Walmart, I still might do that, and have a little fun with it.  Make it lower $$$ desirability, kill local businesses too close by, etc.   If I do get crazy with it, I'll also release a less modded one as well.  Don't hold you breath, as you can see, I already have a long list of ideas.  And I still want to do a couple townhouses as well.....

Don't worry about it, we all appreciate your work.  Now if I could only shed BAT and go back to playing the game and actually use these things!

 

Besides, isn't it nice to at least know what you need to do?

 

Back on the semi-truck note, does anyone know if it possible to mod some of the automata trucks in SC4 to look like grocery store trucks?  I guess the only concern I'd have with that is I wouldn't want 6 million grocery trucks in a row heading out of my city on a highway, but it's a thought nonetheless.
