Exactly!

SC3k is my favorite just for the atmosphere. It's simultaniously heartwarming and mocking, like an affectionate parody of itself. Though I wish it had hydros.

What are you guys buildng now?

I'm currently recreating Johannesburg in SC3000. Takes a long time to reach my goal... because I want to care even more for detail than I used to do... while also having my real life to take care of at the same time, lol.

Did you use highways and avenues to create city blocks? I've been thinking of using that at some point.

So this must be the screenshot thread for the SC3000/U. *;) In which case, I'd love to share the "pride" I currently have fun with.

Enter stage left; the island city of "Santa Katrina", renowned for its affluent neighborhoods and picturesque waterways. Santa Katrina is a city where I wanted to create several readily distinguishable boroughs, each having its own character and purpose. Santa Katrina has endured a significant and complex crisis from 1940 until 1954. During that time, many residential areas were getting abandoned at record rates due to poor transportation. The crisis was also further exacerbated by the elitist tax structure which deterred citizens who could not afford a 19% tax rates... As a result, the city was stagnating at 45 000 population while the city council worked under false assurance that land value is enough to convince new citizens to move in.

However, the tax correction in mid-fifties has bumped the rates back to 14% and the transport has undergone a much-needed reform. From that time on, Santa Katrina is a comfortable and highly attractive place to live in.

Industrial district (the power line is broken, because I played with "Better Buldozing" *):

Residential areas, including not yet completed Downtown:5fc408833f1d1_SantaKatrina_residential.JPG.a83e2a65a52862991d1c25525bb9d4ae.JPG

Santa Katrina's most luxurious neighborhood. All of the estates have been created without cheats in the natural course of the game, no "plop cheat" was used. The fences have been made historic though.

Closeup of the area where the rich and famous live. Note the canals enlacing the entire area. Also note the estate built right next to the prison - a proof of concept if you will.

The northern tip of the city, features another, developing, industrial area. Only clean industries are allowed to set up shops here. On the far right - the still developing medical research center with access-control tunnels.

I love the music of 3000, and it works better than 4 on my computer. The game is completely portable for me and I could run it off of a flash drive. Plus, I actually don't care for the regions aspect of SC4 as much, so 3000 is a logical option for me.

Welcome to the forum @Legalist and aboard the SC3000 team! *:thumb:

The music in SC3000 was indeed beautiful. One of the best in gaming. Often, I even prank my family and friends by playing this music and asking them which movie is it from? The answers are hilarious - "The Terminal", "Guardians of the Galaxy", "The Secret: Dare to Dream". *

I actually like the region mechanism in SC4, but I still like to build huge cities in one "go", so SC3000 is definitely a valid option for me as well. Actually, it is also easier to mod.

@TheMurderousCricket Santa Katrina looks really nice and simple. I love the way you create these affluent neighbourhoods with mansions and tiny canals. I see you also spend countless hours making individual zones historical, especially with those mansions. I have whole cities where all data is historical. Takes a long time, even months, but the result is just so much more satisfying!

Having played this game for 20+ years, I still - occasionally - get surprised by the funny little gimmicks they have put into this game. I just received this complaint from Mrs. Farsheim's 10th Grade Civics Project today in a new city I started. As usual, I wait a bit with building my first educational institutions. But I have never seen this one before - I thought it was quite funny.

I've been playing a long time also, and have never seen that message before.  I do find it ironic that it comes from the 10th grade civics project.  If there are no schools, how can there be a civics project...or even a 10th grade class?

Perhaps it's a 10th grade of educational neglect, or something of the kind? :uhm:

But there are some other rare "gems" out there. For instance, while working on Magnasanti I found out there is a message demanding a marina to be built. Literally the first time I've ever seen it since the game was published.

What is funny is that it may also appear in cities that have no water bodies. :)

That was the first ever message I got in the game, because I had no idea how to play it and couldnit afford services. *:P

Edit: the school one, not the marina

I suggest we make a new thread called "Show us what you are working on in SC3000" or something like that. This thread's title is misleading for what we use it for now. A new thread with a new title will be more comprehensive and more welcoming for new visitors. Heck, it might even increase the popularity and activity of this nice little SC3000-subforum we've got.

What do you guys think @VetinarisClerk @The Thinker @Captain Adam @TheMurderousCricket @dencity @Prophet42 ?

EDIT 06-02-2021: And so be it. The thread is located here:

Oh yes. So upbeat and chill. I always put something instrumental on for work, and SC3K soundtrack is a staple.
