  1. I'm making a city what do you think?

I have to make this quick okay i'm about 50-60% done with the interchange. here's a little teaser pic. I think I'll just post pics of it when it's done. thanks for the comments everyone. I really like the one about being paid for this
  2. I'm making a city what do you think?

ah yes pics 5 out of the 8 ramps are semi-done(I still have to add the supports and guard rail things) bla bla bla,
  3. I'm making a city what do you think?

like a week, week and a half. about 15 hours all together. I had to start over because the original one was too complex and had too many polys. and i'm doing this from scratch not knowing how to do it.
  4. I'm making a city what do you think?

@frndofyaweh: thank you, I've never really considered myself an artist. but thanks for the compliemnts. @ defcon pilot: I don't know if I could be a 3d artist, I have gmax and 3ds max8 for almost a half a year, and i'm still completely lost, I almost cry because It is sooooooooo complicating. I'm basically self taught in these kinds of computer art programs(whatever it's called) you know photoshoping, video editing, 2d flash,...... but this is by far the easiest program to use, after going thru the tutorial(about 10mins long) I was using the program with ease. @kippis05 thank you, just taking little bites, and getting all of the complicating stuff out of the way first. then the rest will be easy. I have to watch someones house today and tommorow so i'll be building stuff up in the city. i'll probaly post more pics tonight.
  5. I'm making a city what do you think?

okay photobucket is back up. here is what it looks like now. all the off-ramps are drawn. it's all 2d and needs to be put into 3d. oh also 2 feeder roads will be created as well. ----------------------- edit: oh and those red spots are areas where I haven't finished connecting the ramps to the highway.
  6. I'm making a city what do you think?

well I didn't like how the interchange looked, so I have completely overhauled it. i'm about 20-25% done and took a pic but my photo host(photobucket) is down for maintance(sp?). after 3 years of use this is the first time the site hasn't been up for me. hey thats pretty good. anyways i'll post the pic when the site is back up.
  7. I'm making a city what do you think?

my computer isn't all that powerful, except for my processor my specs. dell dimension 3000 3.0 ghz ht 512mb 80gig+250gig+8gig scsi for page filing. my computer will slow down a bit if I use shadowing or textures but it'll do just fine in the other views. my other limit is time, I work from 10:00am to anywhere between 7:00pm-10:00pm. monday thru saturday. so that only leaves about 30mins-1hour that I can do anything on my computer.
  8. I'm making a city what do you think?

@thesonofgray. yeah I know about that, that was an older pic. it's been fixed. lets just call it improvising from a general idea. I know where I want the dt and mt and residential is going be, but I haven't planned the layouts and stuff. @defcon of course east coast, we have the better cities. lol
  9. I'm making a city what do you think?

suprisingly the files are not all that big, that building is only around 400kb, and the whole thing altogether is only about 2mb. although with everything in the model it'll get huge and take alot of resources so I planned for this and cut the city up into 1000x1000 ft blocks. hopefully this will work out okay.
  10. I'm making a city what do you think?

@xiziz: yeah it looks sharp but that's zoomed out alot in that pic. here's the pic up close. ***correction: I said the highway was a 10 lane, 5 each way. I made a mistake, it's only a 8 lane, 4 each way. you can easily see it in the pic @ pickled pig: yeah the interchange needs more work, it's slow coming but coming along. as to the missing exits this is a pic that's alittle old(2 more are now in the model) but answers your question: I hope this won't be labor intensive, i'm gonna try to make this as simple as possible, no textures just colors. like with buildings(after I finish the highways and streets and what not) i'm going to do simple mock boxes for the buildings. then after I get the overall idea of the city into the model, then i'll start detailing it, to about this level as to the streets, the downtown area will be somewhat griddy( mostly griddy but with some angled intersections). then the surrounding areas will have curved roads(much like the highway. i'll pretty much make the whole city, if I see a building I like then i'll put it in, and if I can't comeup with an idea for a building i'll probaly ask if I can't/dont feel like making one. ---------------------------------------------------- thanks to everyone who likes this so far, it's crazy, i've only been 3d modeling for like a week or two and i'm just as amazed as the rest of you too.
  11. I'm making a city what do you think?

program: google sketchup, and it's completely free to. yeah it's huge, I've made a 16,000 feet x 9,000 feet area in which i'm gonna build a city. i'll go take a pic and edit it in. ------------------------------------------ edit: thats 16,000 x 9,000 ft that's something like 3 x 1.7 miles. the highways are 10 lanes, 5 each way. and those roads are avenues and 4 lanes, 2 each way, with a center divide.
  12. Post Modding Requests Here

i'm not to sure if this would be possible and not to sure where else to put it without being beheaded by the mods here so i'll post it here. winding streets/roads/avenues/.... I have noticed that when you buildoze the "y-intersection" tile in NAM that it leaves behind avenues in the place where the intersection occupied. would it be possible to do that with roads and make long winding curves? like with roads you can do either horizontal/vertical or diaganol directions, would it be possible to make a 2up 1left 2up 1left 2up 1left...... and then reverse it and make it 2up 1right 2up 1right 2up 1right...... making a long winding road? obviously you can make the roads like this already but it would be purly visual so you don't get those nasty turns.
  13. (SCJU'ers)I saw your thread here about the scju and was interested in it so i started reading thru it. then I recently found out that you have a forum/wikipedia, so I went there and read both a little now this is what's bothering me about it. "The union itself is likened to a hybrid of EU and UN ideologies" this is an exert from the wikipedia but after reading thru some things both on simtropolis and your boards, what it sounds like is the ideology of the US. the two are very very different and could pose a problem in the future. I'm probaly ignorant on this(as i've only read a little here and there) but i'm not really sure what the SCJU is now, i'm getting a little of this and a little of that when it say's this is that and this is this(if that makes sense) can someone clear this up for me? ***EDIT: oh and for you SCJU'ers the link at the bottom of the wikipedia for your offical website isn't working http://www.scju.co.nr/ it just gives a "not found" page. just a heads up
  14. Cubed

Okay its time for something different, radical in fact. For years everyone has claimed that the SimWorld was flat, well that is no more. The SimWorld is now in 3 dimensions. I will be making the first 3 dimensional SimWorld using SimCity4. I will take a normal city like this: And I will turn it into this: Stay tuned cause the SimWorld has changed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A little background: I came up with this idea when I was playing Halo. I don't know exactly how it happened but I though hey I could probaly make a 3d simworld. I have a weak computer so I have to start this out small. it'll be a total of 6 small cities. 1 city will have connections on all 4 sides, 1 city will have 2 connections and 4 cities will only have 1 connection. I will use 1 city for heavy development, mainly res and com. 1 city for utilities and heavy industial development to support the heavy res and com development. 3 cities will be suburbs of the heavy developed city and I will have 1 city dedicated to farming. Since this is the first it will be on a grid. If this cube is succesful I will build another and expand the size while also making the cities less gridy. Stuff I will do next: -Post pics of some development -I'll create a tutorial on how to turn a flat 2d region into a 3d world (for free).
  15. Cubed

oh yeah the tutorial, I had completely forgotten about it. that'll come up next
  16. European cities and SC4 engine

america creates a game, and the euros blast it for not being based on their cities, HEY THANKS! but you guys also have to remember that this game was made a while ago, things evolve and that takes time. hopefully sc5 can address many MANY of the issue us city builders have.
  17. How did someone make this?

I don't know, look at the shore, it resembles the sc4 shore very closely. well except the color of the sand. anyways something like that wouldn't be too hard to do. take a pic of your city, in photoshop change the perspective, then go into a program like bryce or gmax or whatever and create the skyscrapers. other than the skyscrapers nothing looks like it has height. then you would edit the water and clouds. but then again it's easier said than done.
  18. A how do I type thing

ah... thats easy. get the nam aveneu puzzle pieces thing and tab all the way to the very end. it'll have a bridge type thing on one end and it'll have the aveneu on the other end. I forget what it's called but it's something like aveneu to slope piece? anyways yeah that's how you do it.

Reply's: Thanks all for the replys. I didn't think this was on a good start(the first two replys) but it looks like people might actually want to see this. Oh and so you know, this is basically an experiment. I have no idea what it is exactly suppose to be. just experimenting, and it'll of course be a work in progress. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay here is what cubed looks like now. I have developed the cbd some and I also developed some industrial and utilities in another city but I don't have enough time to get pics of that city. as you can see sc4's buildings dont have the 3rd dimension so I had to add some dimension to it. the width and length of the buildings is pretty much accurate, the height was just eye-balled so some might be taller or shorter than the sc4 buildlings. here's some different angles. here's some fun shots. this one is a perspective on top of one building looking out towards the most developed part of the city. and this one is just a look down an avenu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- conclusions: -It didn't really come out how I expected it to. I envisioned it different(the looks). I didn't think the buildings would be so angled(the actual sc4 buildings) -the cube looks very weird with only 1 developed city so i'll have to develope more areas. -I think this concept, of a cube, would be better if the cube itself was bigger. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- teaser: I started this before I started the cube. I was thinking big right out of the box. But then I realized that it would have been smarter to test somethings first. so this project will be put on hold untill I can learn the dynamics of 3 dimensional city building. it's a transporatation vechicle(sp?) that is a self sustaining. it'll carry alot of people, how ever many 57 small cities can hold. it's suppose to travel the galaxy, and many generations of humans can live on it while it travels. it's basically like a cruise ship x alot.
  20. Cubed

sloppet: hey i'm thinking outside the box... um.... or creating the box hamster: Yeah the actual buildings... but there will be something in place of the buildings that will stick out. think google earth.
  21. To NAM Or Not To NAM...

    1 street up/down, 1 street left/right, 1 street up/down, 1 street left/right. is that easier?
  22. City Journal: Recreation of Atlanta

    this he making the city?
  23. To NAM Or Not To NAM...

If you need any help with the install or any further questions just PM me I will be happy to help. EDIT: they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, well heres the picture.. quote> you can make diagnle neighboring city connections? I've tried it with NAM(no diagnal connections) and without NAM(able to make diagnal connections). what am I doing wrong?
  24. Something wrong I see with the SCJU

Sorry I haven't posted in this topic for a while(what seems like ages), I've had a major critical error to one of my cities(probaly corrupt data) and i'm in a frenzy cause I spent like 3 weeks building it and now it's a blank city. i'll post to what was discussed before, but real quick why something like a scju? well if your a member, you now develope a nation(even though I still consider it cities) with the same ideals as others, it would be like joining a ford mustang owners club or anything similar. so now instead of just building cities you and others are building more than just a city or two but a unified group of cities with the same ideas behind them.
  25. New Alkaola CJ '' Llac

wow, it kinda reminds me of how South American cities looks like If suburbia looks like how the very top right area looks like, WOW can't wait. i'll be a follower to this one, 48 Thumbs up!
