Okay Atlanta and Houston are the two major cities in the South. Both have unique and very different dt/mt..... Which city is better? Atlanta Houston
-
I wanted to see what a typical sc4 city's skyline would look like and this is what I got. Here is the project city first, nothing spectacular escpeacially the dt but just wait till you see what it looks like in 3d. It's on a small region/city/tile/whatever it's called... zoomed out zoomed in once satellite pic ------------------------------------------------------- I used google's sketchup to make the buildings and transportation layout(except streets and roads) skyline1 skyline2 skyline3 skyline4 aerial view skyline with transportation layout(red: highway, gray: avenues, black: rail, purple: monorail) skyline with transportation layout without sat(red: highway, gray: avenues, black: rail, purple: monorail) top down view(red: highway, gray: avenues, black: rail, purple: monorail) ----------------------------------------------------- and some misc pics of inside the city looking around(I forgot to get some 'observation deck' types screens so I'll do that later) looking at downtown inside downtown looking at the tallest building

Unfriendly Rivalries between cities

Originally posted by: Micah Trust me, there is no rivalry between Houston and Atlanta. The only one Houston has is between Houston and Dallas. I only think people in Atlanta think there's a challenge. But if you talk to any Houstonian, they really don't follow Atlanta that much or have not even seen a picture of Atlanta's skyline.quote> lol, I know... we don't have any rivals. just trying to spark something up. -
I really like how the middle easterners are handling the waterfronts, CRAZY CREATIVE!

Is there a mod for an ordinace to ban women drivers?
jmjselect replied to Mayor Dale's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
wow we have some intolerant people here. HE'S JOKING, COME ON! He wants to know how to cut down on accidents -
to find out which is better lets compare what we have in common... hm...... OH FOOTBALL! american football is 2 billion times better than 'football'(soccer). so that automatically makes the US better. lol

San Francisco feels like it has no soul, every other city I have lived in/visited felt lively, had it's own unique feeling,.... but I don't know san fran is just weird, I got a weird feeling from it. Never been to L.A. but looks like an amazing city minus the hyper-sprawl, crime,... Hard but I would say L.A.

Unfriendly Rivalries between cities

Originally posted by: Frigonaut EUROPE vs USA. what to sayquote> If a country is being compared to a whole continent, that says something. U S A !, U S A !, U S A ! ---------------------------------------- As for the south it's Atlanta vs Houston. duh Atlanta and state wise we have a weird rivalry between Alabama and Georgia as to who is worse(in terms of all 50 states). by far Alabama is worse oh and don't forget West Florida vs East Florida, Very different places even though it's not really that far apart from each other -
I will choose based on which city I would rather live in, New York City.

Could the Freedom Tower be taller than Burj Dubai?
jmjselect posted a topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I was just thinking earlier today... what if New York New York pulled a Chrysler Building on Dubai? LOL oh man that would be awesome, we would once again rightfully hold the title of tallest. That would be HUGE! ------------------------------ oh and another thought just popped into my head, if it's a freedom tower vs burj dubai that would be pretty symbolic with the whole west vs middle east thing we're in right now. -

I like Dubai, they have some very unique towers. But that Burj Dubai is butt ugly(imo). @Micah, I thought las vegas had a height restriction, when did they lift that? @2nerdy4u, Our economy isn't falling behind, it's that the rest of the world is catching up. We only have so much because we are a small nation in terms of population(300million). Given time and good fortune countries that embrace capitalism or some flavor of it will pass america's economy. and about americans being upset - the best analogy I can think of is an athlete, we know that there is always someone out there that is better than us, but we can achieve winning in our time today. As time goes by we'll become less and less of an impact and others will rise to greatness and at some point we'll become forgotten... Basically we like the competition and like an athlete when we're losing we're not upset at the opposing side we're more upset at ourselves because we're not doing what it takes to win(ie rise of socialism in america). to take it to this thread and myself, I'm upset because like others have said, we look at skyscrapers in terms of profitability, we've lost that sense of being the one to reach furthest into the sky. -

@matvl13: dude we lost that title a while ago -
IMO L.A. will never be a true city UNTIL IT GETS A DANG FOOTBALL TEAM. lol jk but really L.A. needs a FREAKING FOOTBALL TEAM ALREADY!!!!!! but yeah L.A. does need to build up, my city(atlanta) puts L.A. to shame, and we're not all that impressive compared to the likes of NYC or Chicago or....

oh crap, I live really close to one of them. I had no idea they did this kind of thing. I'm gonna have to check it out

I didn't know about that 2K ceiling, interesting. -
I found that if you zoom out in google maps it'll highlight some of the important roads(major surface streets) and get rid of the white lesser important roads. I make those major streets avenues in the game. I also zoom out to get the same scale and super impose the google maps ontop of a picture of the region(with city edges on). that way you can get a better picture of where those roads are gonna be going(especially curve.)

Day time I like west, we look cleaner more glass less porches(not porches but you know the apartment buildings). Night time I like the east, just jaw dropping.

what's the best skyscraper in the usa?
jmjselect replied to florent94's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
america's best skyscraper without a doubt is the sear's tower. it still holds all 4 criteria for tallest in the western hemisphere and still holds 3 in the world(i'm not sure since taipei but petronas only beat the sears on 1 criteria, which just so happens to be the one that is used for 'tallest', CHEATERS!!!! lol) and the thing was built in the 70s almost 40 years ago and it's still holding its own. ---------------------------------- but this is my personal favorite: 191 Peachtree Tower (just left of center) -
