Mmmm, this thread is a bit silly. For one thing, there will never be one capital of the world. We're all too proud to let that happen. I recommend that we have three capitals: New York City, London and Tokyo. They are after all the most 'powerful' cities on the planet (Sometimes called the three command centres of the world economy) (You could argue for Paris as well, but I don't think it matches London on all fronts, for example, more dollars and euros are traded in London everyday than in any other place on earth). And really, a stock market crash in any of those cities would affect the world on a massive scale. Those three cities really form a chain across the world, linking North America to Europe to Asia, and from them going to the smaller cities of the world. As for the EU vs USA thing. That's also very silly. For one thing, the USA is only a country and the EU is many countries. HOWEVER, if the member states stop arguing and swallow their pride and get on the road to a proper constitution and become one sovereign nation (Probably centuries away), it would become the most powerful 'state' on Earth. The reason for the EU still not pulling ahead of the USA in economic terms is because the EU is still growing and the eastern states have ALOT of work to do before they reach the economic level of the western members. Alot of those states are barely out of the cold war, you have to remember. If they did reach the same level of economic development as the western nations however, there is no doubt that the EU's economic output would dwarf the USAs, Chinas, Indias in terms of GDP, PPP, etc. There are many books on the dreamt of European SUPERSTATE (Or Hyperpower), I haven't read any of them though. And this post really isn't meant as a 'HAHA MY COUNTRY IS BETTER THAN YOURS I WIN SOMEHOW BECAUSE I WAS BORN HERE' sort of thing. Question: That list of largest metro areas isn't really well clued up on London, is it? Why doesn't it count the London Metropolitan Area? It does with NYC and others, so why limit London to Greater London? It'd be ranked 9th if it did, at 13.945mil.

Haljackey, that isn't multiculturalism. Having lots of people from outside the city belonging to one or two cultures isn't multicultural. I explained myself above, and London is the most multicultural, as it has the most cultures. Maybe not the most people belonging to a different culture (or two), but the most cultures, and that's what multiculturalism means.

Well, don't claim that Toronto is the most multicultural in the world, simply because it's got more foreign born people. I'll gladly argue with the UN themselves about it. Having 41% of the population born outside of Canada, perhaps belonging to 1 or 5 different ethnic groups (fairly large chinese community for instance) doesn't make it more diverse at all. 300 languages is more than 100. The number of ethnic groups in London is more than in Toronto, since that many languages wouldn't spoken if it weren't. ^@aleking There are many communities in London like there are in Toronto, AAK. On the whole though, these communities are more British than anything. I know a Chinese canadian who doesn't call himself solely canadian, for instance, even though he was born there. My auntie visited Toronto whilst staying in Chicago (wierd, quite a long journey), and she said it was amazing. Clean, green and buzzing, in her words. I myself can only remember it for the CNN tower and the lakeside airport (I think), so I guess you really have to visit the place before you'll know about it, unlike London, New York, Paris, etc.

Regardless of what the UN says (I don't care for percentages much, I prefer the actual numbers), London is more diverse. 300 languages is obviously more than 100, and as such so is the number of ethnic groups (don't have it to hand), and as such, that is what multiculturalism is about, not the number of foreign borns (they could just all be from the US, no?), but the number of cultures. As I said, 50 communities of over 10,000, speaking 300 languages, is much more diverse. Also, I don't see how segregation is anything to be proud of, and whilst there are close knit communities in London, the other ethnic groups are more integrated as a whole of the population.

Paris is only second tier, described as making a smaller contribution with cultural bias and Tokyo is simply in the global economic niche category. I guess that's about right for Toronto though. The only other Canadian city in the ranking is Ottawa, for social reasons. I know someone from Toronto, I'll find out what they think of it later.

Hi ho! I've got a city at 95-100K pop, and everything has been fine for a while, but recently growth has halted since I've basically ran out of space or demand has dropped. I've got neighbour cities with 20-50K pop, and they are fine, but this one is getting a little tricky. Would it be best to slowly move industry into a neighbouring city? So that in the end my big city is only R and C, no I. Would that make it more desirable for C$$$ and R$$$? Health, Safety and Education are high above the board, Traffic is OK, but environment is in the red. Is it time for industry to move out? Here is a screenshot of Bayton. Also, should I stick to keeping industry separate in future cities? Does that work better than having it all in one? Thanks, from a SimCity 4 newb.

Hello everyone. I started this town a few days ago when I reinstalled SimCity 4 + RH. No cheats. Just blood, sweat, toil and tears. Do note that I'm in a tricky situation on the financial side of things, and whilst my town may not be up to the standards of the other CJs here (), I do hope to one day be able to create cities on par with those. First up, a tour of New Newton. The oldest part of the town, established after road links from the south, east and west all began to invade this land. Good infrastructure and supplies, note the Wind turbine for Green Peace's sake. Now we move into the next part of town, which developed as the T junction was built in the centre of the map. Has been the centre of commerce in the district for the entirety of the town's history. Recently, increased value properties have sprung up as a result of the population boom, in which the town grew from a mere 7,000 to a dangerous 30,000. Now we move to the north of the map, the industry sector of the town. Due to some tricky taxing, Dirty industry has never really developed here whilst Manufacturing and High Tech have took off. Recently, an airport was built to help growth in the commercial sector as well as to try and get more people into the town. The university and town mall as also located here. Now that the town has been covered in visual form, it's time for me to ask for your advice in sorting out the situations that plague the Mayor's office. So here's the budget and tax income for the town. As you can see, the populations call for increased education and health expenditure, along with the natural needs of power and water has resulted in a huge loss of funds. Now, I don't know how to get out of this to be brutally honest. So I call on the good people of Simtropolis for help. This is a problem that occurs in every town and city I've tried to build in this game and no matter what I do, I can't get around it. It's the reason I've ended up uninstalling the game in the past and not playing it for another 6 months. So, what's the order? Increase taxes further? Make the good citizens go without the highest level of education and health that they're used to? Bare in mind the presence of 4 loans, which will need to be paid off before any real work can be done. Help me, good fellows.

I deleted all of my cities because I want to make a fresh start. I just can't do this game. Does anyone know of a good tutorial for beginners with pictures?

Hey, thanks for the replies. I'll take your advice into account when I load up SimCity 4 next. So I need to keep the poor tax low, the rich tax high. Got it. Anyway, I've improved the situation a fair bit. Population is now 67,000ish. I had to replace 2 aging power stations and water pumps. I've also replaced the two elementary schools with that super elementary school and added another hospital. I'm just having trouble keeping out of debt now, although the margin between Income and Expenditures keeps blurring between them. Yep, my hospitals and education structures are at the bare minimums for the amounts of people that use them. I don't really want to cut back on utlities spending, as there at their limits already. Would it be worth getting rid of the City College and Highschool. I also have quite a few ordnances (All except the nuclear one). Should I stop all frivelous ones? Will that affect the development?

Never seen this thread before. I'm Mike , 14, and I live in the UK. I've had an account here for a couple of years, but I stopped playing SC4. Started playing it again recently, but I've forgot a lot of the basics and I hope to master the game soon. Have a good one!
