A fantasy map, where the land is built up in layers reaching a peak, in a similar way to neolithic earthworks found throughout the world. A suitable map perhaps on which to build an Island fortress using some of the excellent ancient fortresses, ruins, roman walls, etc available on the STEX - please be fair with your comments - I know this kinda map has only minority appeal !!!! lol -

Another large map featuring navigable waterways, sandy beaches, and relatively flat land. Comprises 31 Large, 35 Medium, and 36 Small cities - however, if like me, you don't like small cities, then please feel free to change the bitmap to suit your playing style - or PM me and I'll make one for you :-) -
The one important geological feature thats missing on any SC4 map is ............... waterfalls. Would it be at all possible to design some kind of modification to enable the water table level to be altered in different parts of a region ? At the moment, if you take a river from high mountains down to flat plains, the only way the program can do it is by carving a huge canyon through the mountains. Would it not be a beautiful sight to see a shallow river originating high in the mountains, winding its way down to the plains below ? If one of the experts on ST could make such a mod it would be a spectacular improvement in what is already a superb game :-)

There has been some controversy of late regarding the use of terrain height modifications when rendering maps downloaded from the STEX. As the two most prolific map makers in recent months, myself and Blade2k5 have conducted some reasearch, designing maps with and without terrain mods. We both agree that it is perfectly viable to create a nice looking, realistic, playable map WITHOUT the use of terrain mods - take a look at Blades recent maps ! The major problem pertaining to the use of these mods, is the fact that once installed they alter the height of EVERY map thats loaded into the game, and will OBLITERATE any previously built on region made with a normal map, and if a user downloads a NORMAL map whilst having the mod installed it will NOT RENDER CORRECTLY. This is causing anger and frustration to many many users who quite frankly want to sit back, relax, download a nice looking map, render it, and play it. They do not WANT to go through a tedious procedure of having to install a mod to play a MINORITY of maps and then have to remove the mod to play the MAJORITY of maps on the STEX, or indeed the maps that come with the game. I am well aware that there is a program available that allows the user to select which mods, bats, lots, textures, etc are loaded with each region played. This prog is GOOD but requires more than a modicum of knowledge in how folders are organised on the PC. There are of course many people on this site, who are in fact computer geniuses. But there are THOUSANDS who are not, who just wanna play the game as easily and as relaxing as possible, without having to sit down and THINK uneccessarily. I applaud in the strongest possible terms the exceptionally talented, small group of people on this site for thier dedication and skill in making the most amazing additions to this excellent game. But I would say to all of them - PLEASE just keep it as simple as possible, and bear in mind that the overwhelming majority of people on this site are NOT computer geniuses.

Same terrain layout as my previous map, but double the size. Rivers, mountains, etc are proportionally bigger, and the rearrangement of cities, reflects that. I will be using this concept on my next 4 or 5 maps - giving YOU the choice of two different sizes of the same map, without having to resize and reconfigure yourself - because in the spirit of the community, I believe downloading and playing a map should be as simple and quick as possible. Edit - the previous map was based on a 3 x 3 large city grid - this map is based on a 6 x 6 - so if you work out the math, it is actually FOUR times bigger - which only go's to prove that despite a university education, ANYONE can make a mistake lol -

Imagine a beautiful part of Sim World, where the sun shines throughout the year, imagine a place of tranquility and harmony with nature. In this map I have let my imagination run free, and pictured little villages and fishing towns, beautiful unspoilt coastlines, sandy beaches with crystal clear water. I invite you to make this a little secluded part of sim world, unspoilt by the hustle and bustle of modern living - make this your own vision of a perfect world. I dedicate this map to the woman I love - Omnia Vincit Amor For a better view of the screenshot - checkout my forum on the mapping pages - heres a link https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=73130&num=30&pageNo=2 -

The DBS Landscape Development Corporation has been busy lately, scouring Sim world to find suitable areas for its multi billion dollar projects. This beautiful region looked suitable because of the natural harbours north and south, - but there was a slight problem, - a range of mountains seperating the two. Nah, thats not a problem says the chief engineer, we will just blast a canal through the mountains ...................... -

This is my representation of the craggy high Plateaux found in mountainous areas all around the world - the river banks are steep, and the the rivers look spectacular with bridges crossing them. No Modifications used in this map - and no modifications needed to render it - what you see is what you get.
