wow....so, no custom sized region, terraforming, etc? I'm really wondering when/if the next City Life comes out, how much it will be improved. Furthermore, I wonder if the whole point of SCS is for Will Wright to get back at Monte Cristo for making it

It would be nice if existing content could be used for this project to shave off a lot of development time...otherwise I dont see it getting done any time in the next 5-10 years [considering that a game engine has to be acquired, or built from the ground up, and both options are painstaking]

Originally posted by: crushedcar it stops SC4's annoying trick of replacing all low wealth areas with high wealth ones.quote> this was an issue that EA/Maxis should have patched for SC4, along with bug fixes. It could have simply been a tweak in game rules. I don't think it should warrant a dramatic change for SC5, such as eliminating zones entirely. I personally see that as a dire mistake and taking away a core part of Sim City history. Plopping buildings? Simply awful. At least give people options - grow, plop or both...but for christ sakes don't take one option away entirely.

how does City Life handle regions? I've still never seen the game.
-
I'm guessing that once again she got preferential treatment, and is in an isolated cell?
-
I thought that the only real tracking involved was on a per-building basis (such as 2893/4000 occupants in a skyscraper, 199/200 jobs of a factory, etc)

SC2000 & Sim Copter are two of the greatest games I've ever played. Then again, a lot of it might be the nostalgic value.

Take a look at Project Xenocide, for example - it's a fan made rendition of X-COM. 100% built from scratch.

Originally posted by: deeejayeee For my own personal taste I could live with Simcity 4 for a long time it the game had the ability to create curved roads and not just 45 degree angles and right angles. Everyone that has worked on modes for the game has done an excellent job which Maxis should have done from the start. Having said that, if the current screenshots of sim 5 is where maxis is going they are going to have to do a lot better before I stop playing SC4.quote> It actually does have the ability to create curved roads now, see the Transit Modding forum I'm hoping they work on curved highways next. The only unfortunate side effect to SC4 is that buildings can't grow on a tilt.

nope, not at all...I think that all ghost sightings are purely psychological manifestations, or just plain misunderstandings (carried sound waves, etc)

Supposedly, someone here acquired the access to SC4's source code last year, but that person is MIA....

Why "Cartoony" is not a valid argument
Pixelrage replied to LivingInThePast's topic in City-Building Games
I think that's because Spore is the first of its kind, and the first game is going to define its genre and theme... Sim City is different because it already has had its own tradition and style for many years now. -
IMHO, like any fan made game of this nature, it would be just that - fan supported...there would be no funding. Even if it used a single tidbit of code from SC4 without written consent, it would be a lawsuit waiting to happen if the game were to be sold. It's preposterous to even think that Maxis would help out with such a thing. It would be a threat to them, if anything.

I'm hoping what aaaaa said is right. I just wonder why TM has never said anything about it not being the next game in the series, though.

Something along the lines of Photoshop/Illustrator's "pen tool" would be really nice, but I imagine, nearly impossible to do.

Your favorite game in the SimCity series?

Originally posted by: Barbarossa anyone know why she was let out in the first place?quote> Some supposed health issue... I think they are being nice and she had a breakdown...quote> nope - it's called having good lawyers, it's what this country is based on. Don't forget that she was given preferential treatment and put into an isolated cell in an isolated wing of the building - not in a common cell with a dangerous cellmate, like she deserved In the meantime, poor lower-middle class slobs are serving 20 years for crimes they didn't commit, or sentences for actions that Hilton did, for 7-10 years.

I highly suggest that all involved in this project read this thread and consider getting in touch with the original poster of it!

I still wouldn't blame TM. As said, they're doing what they're told. Will Wright wanted it to be dumbed down for today's generation of mindless drones whose amusement never wanes from the same old FPS clones and recycled garbage. How could someone so smart be so stupid.

Comments made by Tilted Mill Staff Chris Beatrice...
Pixelrage replied to maddogmark25's topic in City-Building Games
Chris seems like a nice guy and he's certainly in a pickle... regardless, none of this should be a shock. If only someone could track down Buggi who supposedly has gotten SC4 source code. Then, the real fun can begin. -
IMO, Wright's comment was a cop-out to enter a younger [more lucrative] demographic market....
-
"It also talked about how Will Wright commented on how complicated the game was for new users." --I'd love to know how he came to this conclusion...market research? Complaint letters? Returns? I cant believe the gaming society has gotten so dumb to the point where they couldn't play a commonplace game that came with a decent manual...makes you wonder if the developers of Myst, Oddworld, Warcraft, Starcraft and any other strategy or "thinking man's game" had the same conclusion (I don't think so..)

I'm guessing these are "early alpha screenshots" too Looks like all of that pessimism paid off, anyway...
