ok, so i havnt been here for a while so this is a bit out of date, but i thought this was just too amazing to keep quiet football fans at West Ham's Upton Park in East London watched in horror as two planes moved closer together on a collision course, but when they moved past each other disaster appeared to be avoided, in fact the incident wasnt even classed as a near miss as the planes werent whithin 1000ft of each other! the perspective appeared to be the source of this alarming point of view. read more and more

The Whale in the City!

thats mad that is -
i dont read much fiction at all, for some reason i can never find it interesting enough to keep at it. however i have just finished reading The World According to Clarkson which i got at christmas, it is basiclly a collection of newspaper coloms by journalist Jeremy Clarkson, very opinionated, very merciless and very funny.
-
hahaha i get it! i get suspicius of these funny jokes so i always read the comment, kinda took the fun out, un detured tho i followed the links, it loops after a while, very clever!!
-
thats crazy! personaly though if i had that much money to burn i would spend it on building a nice high quality house that would last, i think that there is an unsubstantional feel to wooden houses.
-
i dont see anything wrong with these houses, they are different sure but not ugly. just because their styles are confused doesnt make them tacky, they may even prove to be a style icon in the future. all i can say is each to his own, if you dont like them dont live in one. edit: in the uk $400000 is nothing, you could buy a 2 bed apartment in some places for that much let alone a huge mcmansion family house, just the difference in living cost i suppose

ancientsociety i cant understand your logic at all, you seem to be defending you argument to the end without taking the views of any other conflicting post into consideration. first of all you seem to think that america is on some sort of global domination program dispite the fact that the us is about the only country actually trying at least to make a differance for good in this world. second, you seem obsessed with bringing this argument back to this ww2 issue which is 60+ years old, the world has moved on since then and learned from its mistakes, polotics are different and i dont know how you can relate to the events of hiroshima and nagasaki which have no relevance in modern warfare. you seem to have no faith what so ever in modern society, convinced that we are about to destroy ourselvs, how many people have been predicting that since the dawn of recorded history? how many were right? the thing that makes humankind special is the ability to develop technology, and to see an opatunity pass is an insult to our very existance. stop worrying and live with the fact that humanity is always moving forward weather you like it or not.

flu kills millions every year, what make this any different? because it comes from birds? -
i have to agree, the technology developed could be put into good use for both military and non military uses
-
no no no you missed my point. i was merely getting at the importance of developing advanced technologies for everyones benefit, not wepons. you would be suprised how much everyday items are first developed for use in the military or space programs, jet engines now power modern travel, GPS that was first developed for the military now directs modern shipping to the accuracy of feet, even the medium i am talking to you on now, the internet was developed for the event of nuclear war. atom bombs have led to hydrogen bombs which were the first to prove that forced fusion is actually possible, at the moment an international project is underway to develop an experimental fusion reactor in france, this may be the technology that proves to 'save' the planet. suppose we stood still after the first a-bomb? what then? one thing is for sure we would be no where near as close as we are now to developing fusion power, we are tantalisingly close to developing power from nothing and it may prove to be the most important discovery to humanity. ever. which generation can say that they were part of that? and all of this came from developing new military technologies during the cold war! who would have thought and it probably could have happened sooner had the countries involved not been bickering for the past 10 years. so that is why i ask what could come of this technology, not for war but for civilian benefit. i dont know now but it may still prove to be useful.
-
sorry to be blunt but there is no point in rebuilding a unsustainable city, and as for a third world country, to be honest i have lost all faith in third world polotics, look at zimbabwe for example. in this current phase of climate change there is much more need than ever before to advance humanities technologies to cope with a changing planet. i dont think sitting huming and ahhing about a continant that has been at war with its self for the past 10000 years is going to help the fact that we are going to sink under the rising sea levels or what ever is about to kill us next, and when sea levels do get too high, cities like new orleans are going to be the first to flood. again.
-
america shouldnt just stand by and let this technology slip away. i say go for it, technology like this could revolutionise industrial techniques in the future and prove a mass benefit to the quality of life, dont start speculating about military use and drawing conclusions when civilian use could be much more beneficial. and as for terrorism i doubt that terrorists could afford or indeed have the technology to launch a space laser. if there is going to be one orbiting space then i would much prefer it to be americas than some rouge state.

i heared some one comment thatyou can make ANY story believable if you say in America... before any tale, lies or the truth. so true! 100th post!!!

exactly videoman i agree:goverment buildings should be neat and consise which will hopefully reflect the polotics inside but perhaps they built the scottish parliament to reflect the troubled and confused design process the twisting and abstract facades are a metaphor for the poor management and the confused way in which the building came to be. in that respect its quite fitting!pull it down.
