PARTY!!!! Update six: Readelstricht celebrating it's 150th anniversary! Hello everyone, thanks for the comments Let's start. The title says it all: It's time for a party, because Readelstricht is 150 years old. I'm going to start with some short fact, and then, I'm going to give a nice picture-show with comments, as allways. It's allways fun to compare the new pics with the old one. Ok then! Readelsstricht is the largest city in the region. The number of inhabitants can vary strong, because of abondonement of buildings.The population varies between the 156.000 and 175.000. Commercial: ~67.000 Industrial: ~50.000 The largest railway station is Readelsstad central: About 7500 passengers per day. The busiest avenue is the Readelskade, and the busiest freeway is the A3 between Vervegraaf and Readelsstad. Now the pictures! This is the old tree in the centre of Readelsstad: the first "highrise" in the old centre: Readelsstad-centrum, some buildings are abandoned because of the commute times. Readelsstricht Centrum: And now both city centres: Now the "skycraper districts" A new area, Zwavelwaart: The Readelskade: And let's have a look at the traffic. The city entrance, Den Verve, can be a point of major congestion, This is were the A3,the A1(ringroad), the major railways and the Breedenlaan cross. Update 5: From North-East to South-West and from South-East to North-West. Thanks for all the wonderful comments! This update is about 4 major cities: -Kanalenstad -Bruit aan de Braat (Bruiterstad is bigger, but there's nothing new) -Readelstricht/Readelsstad. -Vervegraaf Let's start with Kanalenstad. This city in the north-east of the region has almost 50.000 inhabitants. The city is modern and historical in one. It has an avenue-beltway and a monorail-beltway. Well, some pics: City centre: The Grote Zuidlaan, the booming area of the town. It is still growing fast. And traffic problems are the result of the booming conditions: At last, a city-shot: Now Bruit aan de Braat. It is a small town with 17.000 inhabitants. It has heigt restrictions and it is a very pitoresque town. It's actually one of my favorite cities in my region. Well, let's start with the business area, just outside the old city centre: And another, smaller business area,located at a junction of some major roads: Some "suburbs": And a night shot: Now Readelsstricht. Actually, the most important part is Readelsstad (west bank). It has the major CBD and the most dense areas in the city. But, Readelsstricht (east bank), has some gouvernement buildings. But the whole metro-area is called Readelsstricht. Here a picture of the Gouvernement, with the busiest road of the region(4000 cars) : The traffic between Vervegraaf and Readelsstad is getting more horrible every day: And here you can see the "CBD" of the city. It's quite difficult to get some C$$$ buildings, because the population is mostly R$ or R$$. I've tried a lot with taxes, but nothing seems to help. Anyone idea's or tips? That was Readelstricht. Now Vervegraaf. Here is the Koninksplein (King Square), and you can see the royal palace. I have the same problems here as in Readelstricht: almost no C$$$ towers. The square is the 2nd larges business area in the city. And this is the largest area, Westerhaar, the end of the Zuiderkade, the 3rd largest business area. There is a huge traffic flow on this avenue. You can see the building with the most jobs of the region; 5600 jobs. Update 4 : The statistics Hello everyone, thanks for the nice comments! As I didn't have much time, I just add some statistics to this journal, so you can have an impression how the region's going. Here are some facts: Largest city: Readelstricht R; 129.725 C: 48.015 I: 34.018 2nd city : Ververgraaf R; 125.993 C: 48.029 I: 17.386 3th city: Kanalenstad (A new city,with a monorail-beltway) R; 43.557 C; 10.114 I: 5620 4th city: Bruiterstad R: 27.015 C: 12.618 I: 10.091 5th city: Bruit aan de Braat R: 17.349 C: 7.799 I: 3.152 Smallest village: Heuvelderdorp R: 370 C: 297 I: 0 Most dense populated area: Vervegraaf-Dwalen. Because of the traffic flows, it has a highway-beltway. About 41.000 sims live in an area of 25 by 17 tiles, and there are about 9.000 commercial jobs in the area. Busiest roads: A3-highway between Vervegraaf-Dwalen and Readelsstad ( 10.500 cars a day, and a rail line parallel to it with 7000 passengers a day) A1-traverse in Bruiterstad (7.900 cars a day on an ave) Readelskade in Readelstricht. Update 3: Vervegraaf is booming! Hello everyone, thanks for all the wonderful comments! Well this update is about, the title says it already...Vervegraaf. I'm planning to make this the skycrapercity of the region, so I've made a small start. The were allready some medium-rises in the commercial areas, but now I've started to build a residential high-rise area. I've built a first highway-connection between Vervegraaf and Readelstricht, and it runs parallel to the double-railway that also runs between these two cities. And, I've built a new area south-east of Vervegraaf. So it's a highrise district out of town.I've called it Dwalen. This is the start: And after a few years, I've got this: The commute times; lots of people use their car, to go on the highway, but fortunately,most of the people use the bus and trains. And the growth of the population: A satellite image; you can clearly see the new area. And I've edited the transportmap to name the highways: That's it, my friends. Take care, Justin a.k.a Uumke

I love the European style, allthough some american buildings can be beautiful. But Montrouge, Vienna isn't ugly at all. The only skycrapers are out of downtown. The city centre is beautiful, the Stephandsom, Oper, Hofburg.But of course, den Handelskai is quite ugly. But I have to agree, that Rotterdam is quite ugly, but some buildings are quite special. Stephansdom, Wien: Some Rotterdam Buildings:" You should visit my hometown (almost), Maastricht. EJC, you impress me again with your great journals! I live about one hour from the Ruhr-area. I love Köln! Nice place to be, and the church is so impressive! But it isn't really das Ruhrgebiet.I go sometimes to Duisburg.Very industrial. Nordrhein-Westfalen is the biggest trade partner of the Netherlands, because of the the Rhine river. Ít's also the eastern-neighbour of my province, Limburg. I frequently go to Aachen and Herzogenrath, because of the lower taxes, but now, that is over! Well EJC, this is going to be a great CJ! You can really do this, as I see in your Paris CJ. Good luck!

Update 2: Cities and towns keep growing Hello everybody! Thanks for all the great comments! Well let's start! I've decided to start with a small-highway network: A beltway around Readelsstricht and a motorway through de Bruiten to Vervegraaf. I've built some small boring villages in the north of the region. Readelstricht is the first city in the region with highrise-buildings. Vervegraaf has some medium-rises. But in the end I think that Vervegraaf is going to be the skycraper-city of the region, because of less stricter height limits. Well let's start. After the finish of the highway A1, there are some small tailback in Bruit aan de Braat, because of the suburbanism: And in Bruiterstad, the A1 is interrupted, because it goes straight through the town. Well Voulpiotis, I tried to built my own airport but it is a failure, so I'll guess I'm going to use your tips.
