No, I will not. That is, until I get a computer that can run it well. Then, I probably will.

So, does the NAM make any other improvements?

Originally posted by: killerdog123 okay, so what do I look in for these other things? can i use them during I also have NAM? or will I need to delete NAM to do so?quote> You can have as many mods and bats and stuff as you want. Rarely are there any conflicts between things in your plug-in folder and when they are, they will usually tell you in the description on the STEX. The STEX is also where you should look for trees and buildings and stuff. -

After that, the game doesn't care where they go - their only destination is the edge of the city they came from. It would be too complicated and cause a lot of gameplay slowdown for the game to figure out where each truck takes it's cargo.

I am very much for sprawl both in-game and in reality. I would hate living in an urban apartment. Right now I live in a suburb (with a population of over 360,000! - pretty much all sprawl) and I really like it. There's plenty of places to go and do, because, like people have said before in this topic, American suburbs are not very dependent on the big cities. Suburbs are where the people who get rich working in the big cities work. So there's lots of places to shop and eat in the suburbs, because the people who work in the city don't want to drive there to shop/eat/etc. Also, whoever said that suburbs destroy trees was very wrong. There are far more trees in America today than there were when it was "discovered." Many cities have regulations that require a certain number of trees trees to be planted with every house. In the game, I find building sprawling suburbs much more fun than developing large areas of high/mid-rise apartments. I do love nice skylines, though. (both in game and in real life)

large city but low population....
Facelessman replied to ricky1097's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
For the money problem, you might want to think about getting rid of the subways until your city is making enough money to run them. A city of 50k doesn't really need subways and should run just fine with busses and trains. Well placed, cheap mass transit (like bus stops) can be a big source of income for your city. If your sims are using your streets more than they use your rail lines, that means it's easier for them to use the roads then the trains. When a straight rail runs parallel to a straight road, sims are going to use the road. Rail becomes effective when it allows sims to get across the city, or to a neighbor city, fater than the roads would allow them to. Use small plazas and parks as placeholders for your subway stations, and put the subway back in when your city needs it. For your population - do you have neighbor cities? It may be an old habit from the earlier sim cities to fill out one city, then build start a new one, but SC4 doesn't work that way. Sometimes (often) starting or developing a neighboring city is the best way to get another city to grow. Also, your neighbor connections won't do much if you haven't made the city you're connecting to. I think they might provide commercial cap relief, but your sims won't drive there. -

I did not have fun watching that Cowboy's game, even if they did win it in the end. I was "No! No! No! YES! No..." Fortunately, it ended on a "Yes!" so I was happy in the end. They won, but they didn't really play well.

What to do when you run out of room?
Facelessman replied to Macdaddy4738's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: Macdaddy4738 starting a city next to it doesnt seem to alivieate the problem though, the residential just stays as high... The higher your region population is, the taller your buildings can be. That is why you have to grow out before you can go up! You have to start out with smaller buildings and build "out" (because that's all that will grow!), then when your population gets higher (like 300k+) you can get the taller skyscrapers(go "up"!). -

Sure you can build out more. Work on your neighbor cities some. You can't just play one city at a time, you have to play the whole region. -
Cant get my city to grow!!!
Facelessman replied to Macdaddy4738's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Regions or cities? Regions are groups of city tiles that can all be connected. It's the big square full of smaller squares that you see in region view. Cities are the individual tiles of the region. Two regions cannot be connected. Two cities can be connected. -
*NEW* Sim Tourist (Networked) Expansion Pack
Facelessman replied to The_Dalai_Llama's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: Cougar2004 As discussed above, only data points are shared. There will be an original minor download of the props, buildings, and models for that city, but after that, its all cached. quote> Minor download? For any city, many simtropolis people have many, many custom-made buildings and mods and such. For some people, it would require several hundred megabytes of downloads. I used to be on an internet connection where I could download 300Mb in 5 minutes, but that's 5 minute's I'd rather NOT be seeing a loading screen. And right now, it would take me a couple of hours to download that. I'm all for fun new stuff, but let's be realistic: it just wouldn't work with Sim City. That's what Spore is for. (I can't wait for that game) -
*NEW* Sim Tourist (Networked) Expansion Pack
Facelessman replied to The_Dalai_Llama's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
mrbisonm is right, this is 100% impossible with SC4. And if they did something like that with SC5, well, I guess I would have to unplug my internet cord when I play Sim City. -
Originally posted by: BlackStarAlthough it IS an inspired and special layout you have there, I don't believe that the network is strong. Notice how people from each 'cluster' have only 2 road connections to the avenue? I believe that you may be able to attain a more efficient network if you let people travel 'straight to' their destinations. quote> Yeah, I see what you're saying about the interesections, and you're right. However, about the above quote, I designed this city's transportation kind of like a river, with little creeks(streets, roads) flowing into the big rivers(avenues). I don't want high usage on roads, so I design my cities so that everything flows into the avenues. I'm careful with it, though, and make sure the avenues can always take sims where they need to go easily. That way I can control traffic on the smaller roads and keep things going. I don't have any commute time problems or anything. (I don't use any increased capacity or decreased commute time mods) I might post a bigger picture of the city soon, it's interesting, lots of highways and stuff going all over the place.

For good texture mods, check out cycledogg's stuff here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?page=1&keyword=cycledogg&type=all There's a lot of great trees and rocks and maps, but you'll also find Painted Desert, Missouri Breaks, Olympic, and Columbus terrain mods. All of them are very good.

I use a very similar method of placing bus stops, at times, and it works quite well when using lots of 1x1 low or medium density residential. Just make sure you put plenty of bus stops in the commerce and industry, and it works great, you'll have lots of sims riding the bus. Most of this city is built like this, and the bus stops work very well.

16x16? Wow. I feel almost overwhelmed trying to do an 8x8 large tile region.

Cool. Railroads are one thing that I don't do well, but want to do more of. Even in Sim City 3000, I was bad with railroads. I'm looking forward to this.

Here's my newest region: Region is Alanuk by Blade2k5, edited by NHP in SC4Terraformer, and a little in-game terraforming. Most of the 43,000 citizens of the region live in a couple of small towns west of the mountains.
