Light of the donwloads/plugins aren't working..
buddybud replied to JAAPIE's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
also note that nocd patches seem to kill night lights for custom bats. -
looking good brother.....by the way your hair seems to be on fire
-
nam is god...lol... and i wouldnt call it radical anymore than the comon bat. its only radical in the sense that so much time and effort has been put into it. i myself have used it since i first arrived here. the only tweak i use is perfect path finding...cause i hate it when my sims cant find their jobs...other than that i stick to the standard setup.

messed around with shadows.....below is a 1x1 puzzle piece with a random base...same piece repeated....i plan to do a random top also to vary the shadows on the grass.... note the shadows appear only in the correct orrientation....seems to work fine.. thanx jglei701 you are correct.... cheers

thanx all....sloppet condionally (that sly look somewhat frightens me) newyourrunaway1 i agree....that was my first attempt at modeling more than stairs or walls so i just kind of winged it....since the whole " lot " at the moment, is only just the transit enabled 1x1 with a huge overhanging prop, i could easily have the lane slope directly off the road and bring it back against the far rail...an offset t junction.. probably reduce the incline by about 30' that way ..the whole thing is just one big overhanging prop with custom lods to wrap around the hill.....sadly this limits night lights ...cant have em...so i might slice up the idea into smaller building lots, underground car/truck bays, ramps...etc.. that way i could light up the individual bits... but first i just want to finish the base set...which is pretty much finished. i got sidetracked trying to figure out why my nightlights wouldnt fuction.......it turned out to be "after reinstalling everything" to be a nocd crack i was using..let that be a lesson ..lol... damn pirates ...argh thanx again jeronij.....your textures rock ..cant thank ya enough... as usual any and ideas and critisisms are welcome....cheers
-
thanks guys...........missed my deadline.opps.....heres another piece..and the railroad bridge finished also suken freight will be released as seperate lot.....pretty cool.....wanna fix the hill and textures...nightlights.....transparency....ack....ok back to the highway walls.
-
Did a bit more...the middle pedestrian bridge is transit enabled...its simply a skin over the nam ped bridge using lods...skinned the overpasses also....almost done
-
Actually these are jeronij's textures, his rural wall texture.... heres the finished end piece thats it forshure....kinda went overboard
-
last image before i go out for the night i need to do fences and bushes for this but its quite nice and functions as a eyecandy pedestrian overpass piece also.....thanx for all the kind comments.

Petition To The Bosses - Seperate Map STEX
buddybud replied to andymcnab666's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
i have to concur with mayormommy....beauty is in the eye of the beholder....simtropolis is by nature a community with all invited to partake...there is wide variety of people here...young old experienced and unexperienced...i personally support a method for filtering out content because there are some things i never use....maps for me is one..i do my own...however in no way does this mean i think maps are pointless...there is plenty of content ill never use and personally wonder why it was posted BUT at the same time if we limit content than we start on a path towards elitism....constructive critisism is the way to go..give people pointers and help them or kindly ignore it. The people who create this content good or bad obviously feel its worth uploading and if its not lets help them improve it...not crap on them...just my thoughts -
lol.....the highway walls should be out by the end of this coming weekend....the peg stuff ill have to redo but having done it once and still having my textures it wont be too dificult to recreate....i had been given permission by peg to use his texture but ill have to double check with him since he seems quite strict on his lisencing thingy and id hate to peev him off....cause i have much respect for him. the other stuff who knows its all ongoing and i was away for awhile and well im a wee bit of a perfectionist and wont release anything that i feel is shody (by my standards that is) but thanx for the enthusiasm. the big problem up until now has been the sheer number of lots needed to fill in all the bits and pieces but im hoping the new menu management mod will help here....lets keep are fingers crossed. edit for vester_dk......here ya go...gotta tweak the lods and add some crap to the area....what exactly i dont know but great idea
-
hebl......you cant zone or put roads under bridges (its been tried time and time again) but you can put overhanging props there click on my link to underbridge scenery to see some of the ideas ive had......there are a few things kicking around to do this and eventually someday i might actually complete my own..

heres a link on how to do custom lods by ralphaelninja....Working with BAT LODS keep in mind the comments after the tutorial about lod overkill. if you try to wrap lods around minute ditails like railings or wire meshes you will slow the game down quite abit plus it will increase the render time in a big way. a good combination of both is needed....custom lods for the basic structures and blocky lods (sic) for the fine details....again good luck.
-
actually thats a great idea......damn you....and i thought i was done...lol
-
looks good so far. im confused by what you mean by seperating the walls and coverings being seperate pieces? do you mean seperate props? that i could understand.....if they are seperate lots how will they be placed over each other? the lods if done properly shouldnt be an issue expessially at this stage without any details....im not to sure what your saying so its hard for me to judge.... in short it looks like you have the right idea though.... your biggest problem (down the road pun pun) will be what to do with the open space....sinse it is all in overhanging territory your probably going to have to design any and all props yourself....thats the biggest problem ive run into..i wish some enterprising detail freak would release some prop packs specifically for overhanging props...then the next is repetitition...make sure with big open spots like that, you learn how to make random props on lots. two thumbs up so far ......keep it up.

yo alfred from what i understand the dual railway network is hardwired into the exe and therefore cant be altered. im not a hundred percent on this but i do recall reading this somewhere here. Next Exkiman is right. you cant transit enable over hanging props. Second... your better off trying to learn rather then expecting anybody to do it for you.....show some initiative brother, that might get others interested....theres over 100,000 members and the ratio of batters to users is at a minimum. and everybody wants something. Third if you want to make a request its better in the appropriat thread.... the pieces above are some of the easiest batting you can learn....that was my first project to see if i could do it ......and i did...and promptly destroyed the models because...a) the idea wasnt mine....it was based on a japanese set....and b) they were of poor quality which you cant see at the shown zoom level. in short dont give up ....but do more than ask 'is anyone trying to make some'... try to learn some of this and again pm me if you want some help with ideas, ill gladly share what i know...good luck

someone else recently inquired as to the widths...again i have to reply that my models were sadly destroyed in the last 4 months...however the easiest way to do it is this that i found was..... 1. make a 16cm x 16cm texture in photoshop....make it of alternating strips of say black and white...two opposing colours. each strip 1cm thick for a total of 16, 8 black and 8 white. 2. then in gmax make a 16mx16m square with a .1m height...apply the new texture to it. render 3. then place on a lot in lot editor. 4. open the game and plop it next to end of whatever network your working with......each strip represents 1m in game...so from here you can eyeball it...2.3 meters etc ......a bit of work but it will work...though dont be surprised if you have to do multiple tweaks....good luck
-
have the same prob as tarkus, sloppet and beebs....glad its just not me....arrrrgghhh i guess i should add that im using firefox and am running win98.....dont laugh
-
brain fart.... dont know if ill do this but i just thought of it and implemented it....ill have to tweak it if i add it. its a wall you can zone behind. you can see the actual piece down below the highway......kind of neat i think....texture needs work for sure.
-
wow man you rock....this is some fine looking cj you got going here....excuse me while i wipe the drool off my keyboard....cheers....

-

Conflicting theories about ploppable residential?
buddybud replied to LordTarren's topic in SC4 Showcase
it doest have to be all or nothing.....you can utilize this stuff in just to add details...a bit here a bit there....afterall plenty of lots provide nothing but a cool look and a few interesting stats...just dont go and create a whole city with it and expect it to function properly...i specialize in useless eyecandy...lol -
Conflicting theories about ploppable residential?
buddybud replied to LordTarren's topic in SC4 Showcase
from what i understand ploppable industry will not create freight trips.......but i could be wrong....anyway even if plopables dont always work they are great for eyecandy...infact there are many of us out there that dont PLAY the game so to speak but just construct kick ass looking cities....its up to you.... ps...interesting avatar alaorneto..lol -
thanx for the enthusiasm.. finished a couple more pieces...now im off to bed
