I have built several sunken highways recently and generally I enjoy the look. However, I have ran into a problem here lately. Sometimes my avenue overpasses are built all sorts of weird, sometimes they are built flush with the ground. These two overpasses were built over a sunken highway that has the same depth, in the same city. The only difference is the direction of the highway. I prefer the highway to remain flush, not raised up under the overpass. Why does this happen? Is there a way to make them more consistent?

I was told either deal with the crashes or revert to 30. I reverted to NAM 30 and 99% of my crashes stopped. As to the original question, hardware can only run the software as well as the software is written. You can't put a race car driver in a pinto and expect it to run 200 mph, just as you can't put a blind grandma in a race car and not expect a crash.
-
I overclocked my fourth core to 3.5 GHz and I was able to get up to 750,000 sims before I started getting lag... but running any of my cores that hard with stock cooling isn't worth it. Especially the way SC 4 runs it up to 100% even when it actually doesn't need it. There are all sorts of tweaks and things that help, but eventually if the city gets big enough you will lag, just as this Moose guy from Canada says.
-
There are several reasons. I usually don't start lagging til I get around 400k sims or more... right now I have several cities with well over a million. I am using an AMD Radeon 6900 Series with 2GB GDDR5 and I still get video lag. There are a couple threads that might help on this page... mainly the one labeled "Configuring SimCity 4 to run on your new hardware" or something similar. Basically new hardware is a bulldozer to this game. To run older software with new hardware sometimes you just have to suffer with lower specs. Especially if its not a first person shooter. Turn off shadows, that helps me the most.
-
A few things. SC 4 is old, therefore it can only utilize one of those 4 cores. Most software is still this way. Its hard to write parallel codes. Serial is so much easier for programmers. If you have a video controller program (ATI/AMD uses Catalyst Control Center, dunno what Intel uses) change everything in that to application controlled. Are you playing regular(vanilla) SC4, SC 4 with Rush Hour, or Deluxe? Is it the Steam version?

Bats Disappearing, leaving unremovable lot

I'm going to try the immortal lot fix to see if that works. Let you know asap Edit: The Immortal Lot Killer Bat solves the problem. Thanks a lot. -

They disappear during the game session. Once they enter into that state, they stay that way, no matter what I do. Only if I can load a game before they disappear will I avoid the problem. If the building disappears, I can even remove all associated files from my plug-in folders and they'll still be there in the game. -

This bug is different from the functional landmarks problem. In that issue you get buildings growing on lots that are too small for them. The problem I am experiencing is different because these buildings were at one time perfectly functional, and then, while in game, they suddenly disappeared with no input from me. And I have experienced it with both growable and ploppable versions. -
Bats Disappearing, leaving unremovable lot

I even bombarded them with meteors to no affect. These two belong to the Diagonal Regatta. No matter what I do I cannot remove them, build over them, or anything. Maybe someone knows how to edit save games? -
I've had this happen so far with several downloaded bats. During construction or sometimes after plops, the building will disappear, leaving the lot. The lot cannot be queried, demolished, dezoned, or even terraformed over. Removing the corresponding lot file from the plugin folder also does nothing. The only thing I have been able to do is hope I haven't saved after it happened, because once they are there, I cannot get rid of them. In one instance when the building disappeared during its grow, I dezoned the area underneath it. Once the construction completed, the game crashed. I have the minidump from that specific instance. Previously I ignored this issue as it was more of a nuisance than a real problem. But it has gotten worse. If screen shots or the afore mentioned exception report are desired I will post them. I appreciate any assistance. I do believe this is being caused by some sort of conflict, but I don't get much time in front of my computer, so I prefer playing than searching for problems/solutions for hours.

Crash when clicking on advisor link to traffic jam site
KradenX replied to KradenX's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Apparently it had something to do with NAM 31. I reverted to NAM 30.1 today. Subsequently all crashes have stopped. I can run the game for several hours, even in large cities of 1mil + with no crashes, all on Windows 8 with very advanced hardware. -
How to configure SC4 to work with your new hardware

I want to try this... but my vendor is AMD (THEY BOUGHT ATI!) Should I use the ATI vendor???? -
Crash when clicking on advisor link to traffic jam site

This just started 20 minutes ago. I have not made any changes to my set up. My exception report as follows: Exception time: 04/04/2013, at 21:00:15. Exception code: 0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION. Current thread ID: 5540 (0x000015a4). System Specs: 2.8 quad 8GB RAM (I use software rendering...my video card is a bulldozer to this game) I've got it set to run on one core so its only reporting 2gb of RAM available which should be enough for this game. Thanks for any help. This bug is observable and repeatable...every time. -
Applying the slow simulation speed practice on my large cities has removed almost all crashing...its somewhat depressing though because I don't have very much time to play the game. In any case, I guess it doesn't matter what hardware you have-if you're running old code to the max sometimes it will break. Thanks for all of your support. I'm going to mark this as solved, even though it's not quite a full solution.

Running the simulation at the slowest speed and (oddly) saving only while its running seems to limit the crashes.
