Build recycling center then a trade depot with the proper storage lots then set it to export. Trade income shows up in a separate tab, it isn't calculated as part of your hourly budget. -
Okay I get that point but delete your elementary school and replace it with a high school, the students will simply go to the high school instead, meaning they both serve the same purpose.

I think this is all speculation, I don't see anything to support the idea that there are "age groups" among students.

The only public transport that gets heavy use seems to be park and rides. My guess is it's a bug with the "closest available option" AI.

I would also add that Sims will only travel about 2 "grid boxes" to a shop otherwise they'll say "there's no shopping around here" even if you zoned sufficient commercial. The amount of Commercial needed to satisfy shopping demands is extremely low, it's about 1 commercial to 10 residential or something along those lines. IE, don't overzone commercial because it will artificially increase your industrial demands. It's a bit confusing that commercial zones don't require freight to produce goods, presumably a glitch. The "unfilled freight orders" tab in details I haven't been able to figure out -
Medium wealth residential always demanded?

Make sure to look at the population details tab. You need to place the $$ parks to get medium wealth residents. One alone won't do it, you need to make sure the land value turns darker blue. -
Can you actually run out of water in a region?

Yes the water treatment plant dumps clean water into the ground so your first unlock in a new region should be the utilities building in your city hall so you don't run out of water. -

Well the population details tab should give you more information, perhaps something explaining why sims aren't working.

City was going fine, decided to go gambling since i had an excess of tourists, unfortunately a van got bugged out in an intersection causing traffic to completely shut down. I think I'll feed anyone with industrial focus simoleons down the line so we can get some great works going.

I would also like some clarification on workers from the devs. It seems only 10% of the population actually work so you end up with a bunch of unfilled jobs. It doesn't seem clear if there are negatives from not filling all job positions etc.

Yeah, the ONLY thing that determines what sort of sim is living in the area is land value which is mostly determined by park placement. So place some $$$ parks near the areas you want populated by high wealth sims.

The new servers "have more powerful hardware" and inter city stuff works fine on them. If you aren't too advanced I'd recommend switching to the new servers or wait till they upgrade the old servers.

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9348373.page They claim they're going to upgrade server hardware today, although the game release has been messy in their defense they seem to be working pretty hard to get the game to a working state. -
Bug with the servers, sometimes city hall upgrades are shared, other times they won't share the unlocks.

Ah damn. Well, thanks for enlightening me on this, but sadly, I got a city right now with 160,000 sims, 261k income daily from ores, 8k income from taxes, and not even a stream for a sea port. Really maxis? Why put the freight station under the sea port? I can see using the same upgrade requirements.. No, the trade port does not require water connection to be built since you can hook it up to rail and it works just as well. The name is just misleading.
