Free Game. Which one should I get?
jcole4lsu replied to MOWS 4 U's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
SimCity 4 Deluxe, that way you can have a decent city simulator or Mass Effect 3. too bad the botched the ending of that game so bad -
gentleman's bet larger maps dlc or ep
jcole4lsu replied to elektrichead22's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I voted for EP, but I dont expect larger maps any time soon. Since glassbox runs the agent sim using a single thread, how much bigger can the map really be? My guess would be an EP that provides adjacent city tiles and followed by large maps in a sequel... SimCity 2017 or so... after a re-work of glassbox. -
so basically wholesale sales in addition to origin/EA retail sales. I can't wait to see the drop off between launch week and say week 3 or so.

two things: 1) i call BS on a million units being "well beyond" expectations. if they didn't expect somewhere around that many they wouldn't have bothered with such a major marketing campaign. 2) that number includes all set sales to big box stores (both physical and keys), those units have not necessarily been sold retail. (in other words, they are counting wholesale sales in addition to retail sales through origin). in addition, those numbers do not include chargeback/refund requests. I think EA set themselves up for failure with a massive reduction in sales over the weeks following launch week due to the bad PR of the launch. I'll be very interested to see the 30 day total sales

SimCity Modder Tells Us Offline Regional Play Easily Done
jcole4lsu replied to oldbrokenlink's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
How is this not a bigger topic on this forum? Have the users here gone into full on ostrich mode (head in the sand) and just don't want to admit EA lied to everyone about the server needing to handle X amount of calculations? How about that GlassBox runs the agent simulation on a single thread? Yeah I am sure that was built "from the ground up" right? -
I wasn't aware of that tile set by JBSimio, thanks for directing me to it, also downloaded his school sets.. It looks like the creator had expansions planned but only the original set is on the lex. Did he scrap plans for the expansions?

Has anyone taken the time to break up the In-Game University into separate pieces that can be plopped freely to create a custom University? Ive searched both here and the BSC Exchange and havent had much luck. TIA

sigh everything that is wrong with this SimCity is summed up in the last picture in the OP. Beautiful city, lots of detail, 90 degree angle and nothing between the city and the highway

Tile size embarassing small
jcole4lsu replied to mastorofpuppetz's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Perhaps a better question for Mr. Quigley is why didn't they design GlassBox from the ground up to use multiple cores for the simulation. As is, I cannot imagine a scenario in which they redesign the engine to make use of multi-core systems in just an expansion. We are going to have to wait for an all out sequel before it gets much better. -
This is utter heartbreaking.

The fact that EA caused this problem themselves with the "always on" connection and no local save files just zips right past your head, huh?- 69 Replies

Tile size embarassing small
jcole4lsu replied to mastorofpuppetz's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The map is small under any standards, not just in relation to SC4. AND we know why its so small and that explanation feels very, very lacking to me. -
Building a Computer for SimCity

ASRock makes good boards as well. Toms Hardware (a very respected tech site) has given ASRock many recommendations and used their boards in several of their quarterly builds. -
Tile size embarassing small
jcole4lsu replied to mastorofpuppetz's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Graphics are not the reason the tile is so small, its the Glassbox engine. Unfortunately the entire simulation runs on a single thread and thus the current size is all mainstream computers can handle presently (according to EA at least). I wouldn't expect any change in that until a sequel. Hello SimCity 2018! -
Discussion about City Tile Size
jcole4lsu replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This is true. Which makes the decision to go single thread on the Glassbox simulation even more unforgiveable.- 1,284 Replies

Building a Computer for SimCity
jcole4lsu replied to C4tson's topic in SimCity (2013) Technical Help Q&A
Gigabyte is not "going cheap" on a board. They make good products. The system in the OP will run the game fine. Glassbox only makes use of a single core for the simulation, so there is no reason to go heavy on the CPU. All of the graphics run on the GPU however, so keep that in mind. The better the GPU, the better the graphics will look. However I think the 7770 will run the game easily on High in 1080p.
