Disagree. Just because we lost some features from SC3K to SC4 doesn't mean core fans will rush into the thing that is no longer a legacy SimCity. Call it whatever. Add Facebook features whatever. If it doesn't meet my expectation for a city simulation construction and management game, meh I go play other real god games.

Discussion about City Tile Size
Machinimator replied to alex macnamara's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The giant circular building in the upper right corner "is" the sports complex. I didn't say STADIUM. I said sports COMPLEX. Sports complex consists of multiple stadiums, admin buildings, parkings, greens. Some of them are bigger than a town. I posted a sports complex picture with the same response in this. God knows why my simple and innocent response was removed! Gagging complaining ones like me is not going to make the forum look good. I can see why this forum is so quiet. Censorship is anti-productivity.- 1,284 Replies

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
Machinimator replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
What is UNrealistic, is TINY little train network LOOP inside a 2x2 tile. Why fuss about nitty gritty items like one way roads, when the more important matter is a highway interchange will take up at least HALF A TILE? They need to fix this transportation LITE problem if they want my money. -

The simple solution to this mentioned so many times is OPTIONS. 1x1 option for the CityVille aunts 2x2 option for the Mainstream. 4x4 option for the Muscles. 8x8 option for the Level Editors. Why is that so hard to grasp?- 1,284 Replies

SimCity LIMITED. Cities XL UNLIMITED. No brainer. -
SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

See bottom right. The yellow box is the big tile. You need a 4x4 tile to make a realistic scale suspension bridge WITH SHORES. -

I went back a few pages and confirmed we can't build or position connection points. The tiles are 2x2, Golden Gate is WAY longer than that. Sucks. It troubles me there are only 3 months to go, but so many key SC4 items unaccounted for. I'm not giving up hopes yet. A lot can still happen. I will definitely campaign for the return of stripped customization ability. -
The core values: just what is SimCity anyway?
Machinimator replied to JaceTwice's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I might have getting some tunnel vision there. Yes, sandbox mode and sandbox style gameplay are different things and I think that SimCity does have the latter. Though I question whether Civ and Crysis sandbox are good examples. One is a pretty clear strategy game and the other isn't actually a game, but a map/mission editor. (from what I could tell) And I'd argue that (well done) humor is a value for Maxis (and by extension SimCity). It adds to the overall light-hearted atmosphere of the game and gives them a unique personality nowadays. Contrast Cities in Motion and the Farming Simulator series that take a straightforward and serious approach to their games. Personally the humor is one of the reason that drives me to play SimCity 4 over a game like CitiesXL. Civ is a GOD game the same as SimCity and Crysis sandbox is a Sandbox/editor mode to help explain the difference between sandbox mode and sandbox play. Humor is a side bonus in a game. I go to Comedy Central and Youtube for humor, for games the entertainment value is in the gameplay design. I will buy a sim game for its CREATIVE capability, not minor stuff like animal jokes or leaderboard high score. A classic god game should not try to act like a human mayor dealing with scenario game. For me SimCity is just another member in the vast universe of simulation games. What draws it apart is not the minor factors like UFOs or llamas, but the ability to build any numbers of city in MY OWN SPECIFICATION. It should do everything possible to retain its more beloved core values: SANDBOX PLAY and GODLIKE CREATIVITY . -

You have got to be kidding me. That is not a town! I can't even fit a sports complex in that little tile! What makes them think core fans will accept THIS?- 1,284 Replies

Disasters in SimCity (2013)
Machinimator replied to The_City_Builder's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
SimCity is a sandbox god game by default even more so than Civilization. Taking away disaster control from players is just going backwards. -

Sandbox mode is just a game mode, not a value. The ones who said sandbox are correct, sandbox by itself IS a game value. A CREATIVE game value. Game values are the unique game QUALITY that made people want to play THIS game and not that other game. Creativity is a value, sense of humor is not (just a minor feature). SimCity core game values are Open-ended. Freedom. Creativity. Construction. Non-competitive. Edit-happy. Etc. Etc. I played SC4. I also played Civilization and Crysis sandbox. I can tell you in the context of game category SimCity is no doubt a SANDBOX game. And also a GOD game.
