Date: 9/25/2005 5:15:20 PM Author: Madhollander @ samflashjr could you tell me how u figured it out, i cannot seem to get any dammd bridge over my stream After creating the river go back to where you want a bridge and bulldoze a path across the river. Use the terraforming tool for lowering land and create a small hole in the middle of the riverbed. It only needs to be deep enough to cause a bridge tool to appear when you drag a road across so don't go crazy with it. Experiment and you'll get it easily. Hope that helps. 4. MP McDonald Complex

Another excellent bat in an ongoing series. Well done, as usual.
  5. Virgin Shores

Nice looking map DP. Vandy can give you any help you might need if you encounter any problems in the rendering. I'm looking forward to where you go from here.
  6. I've always been careful about not having any duplicate .dat and .SC4Lot files in my plugin folders as one of the first things I learned here in 2004 was that duplicates slow down the game. Recently I decided to check for duplicate .SC4Desc and .SC4Model files and came up with a ton of them. They have the same name and same size but are paired with different lots. My question is - can they be safely deleted or does each lot need it's own model file and description file? How do different lots share the same model file? Moderator - If this is the wrong forum to post this question in then please move it to a more appropriate forum.
  7. A wonderful journey comes to an end...

There are games and there is real life. Games are meant to be enjoyed for a season, real life is meant to be lived. You richly deserve the best of everything that real life has for you. Thanks for sharing the last two years of your life with us.
  8. TM Housing

I didn't get it until I opened it. You've got an even better sense of humor than I thought. Well done!!!!
  9. Thinking of Moving?

Hey, we're doing better. England, Wales and Scotland have been heard from as well as Northern Wisconsin and the Florida Keys. As far as Starbucks is concerned, we have one here in Los Angeles that was torn down in order to build a larger one. I guess they wern't making their quota of lattes.

Thanks for trying to help.quote> The game goes in a natural progression from small towns to big cities. Start out with farms and you can keep some of them , if your dilligent, as you grow your cities. Going the opposite way is almost impossible. Sims will not leave the city for farm jobs. They'll just leave completely. Deleting all your industry was a mistake. Even with mostly farms I still have some hitech and medium industry to keep my sims happy. Sorry to hear what happened to your city. Reverse your action and it will probably come back in time. Next time build some farms first.
  11. Sorry to bother

I agree with JoeMeister on this one. Your missing the trees which are a separate download. Look at the readme file in the city beautification pack for help.

I also keep my population low and adjust my tax rate for farm growth. I also use some mods to increase farm jobs and encourage farm growth. High density and farms are not compatible. In order to get larger populations in a farming community you need to decrease funding for education as you increase the population.

thatmonkeysim - #7 is a classic. Yellowlab - Your #2 is probably true of many places across America where politicians think our tax money is their money. Thanks for the wonderful contributions, one and all. Let's keep them coming and I'm with SkiGeek on this. Where is the rest of the world? Surely there must be quirks about the city you live in that only those that live there know about. Everyplace has them.

    5. The river is afraid of the harbour's water quality and consequently flows upstream sometimes. Pretty funny
  15. Thinking of Moving?

Great to see some additions to my original post. All we need now is for some of you living in other parts of the world to contibute something about where you live. Thanks N_O_Body for adding something about Canada.

  17. Is this a good laptop? (and other PC advice)

I'd wait a few months as Intel just announced that their new processors will be out within the next few months. They're well worth waiting for.

The XP install will think you have a naked machine, and behave accordingly.quote> Thats a good idea. Iv always thought that when you let the program do the re-install it never totlay gets rid of everything on the drive. quote> Your correct in thinking that a re-install does not always wipe out everything on your hard drive. A re-install only overwrites the system files and leaves your programs and data intact. Sim1013 - If your really paranoid about wiping out everything there are some programs that you can put on a CD or floppy and, after changing the bios to boot from the CD crive or floppy drive, will overwrite your hard drive completely making everything on it unrecoverable. Then you can reformat and do a fresh install of WinXP Home for your grandmother. You can Google for them. If your not that paranoid then follow Greyveil's or Jacqulina's advice.

Other than the video card though it doesn't look like a bad computer for the price. Just be aware you would want to follow Praeotorian's advice and get a real video card for it right away.quote> Disabling the onboard video is just a matter of changing one setting in the bios. 20. Enjoy! Number 4 is especially funny. Yes, it's that magical time of the year again when the Darwin Awards are bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us. Here then, are the glorious winners. Darwin Award Winners: 1. When his 38-caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach, California, would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked..... And now, the Honorable Mentions: 2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and, after a little hopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company, expecting negligence, sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and lost a finger. The chef's claim was approved. 3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her. 4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days. 5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit. 6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer...$15. (If someone points a gun at you and gives you money is a crime committed?) 7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape. 8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from." 9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m.,flashed a gun, demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast . The man, frustrated, walked away. AND THE 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER! 10. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.
  21. Urban Legend

This is the last one I promise. I laughed so hard that I fell out of my chair. This is clearly an Urban Legend from the Darwin Awards website but is absolutely hilarious. The website states that to receive a Darwin Award the story must be verified by other independent sources and the person(s) involved must remove themselves from the gene pool. They do give out honorable mention awards to those who give it a good effort but fall short of actually dying. They also have some very funny Urban Legends and this is one. The Bricklayer 1998 Urban Legend Accident Report This one needs an introduction, so you won't be lost at the beginning. This man was in an accident at work, so he filled out an insurance claim. The insurance company contacted him and asked for more information. This was his response: "I am writing in response to your request for additional information, for block number 3 of the accident reporting form. I put 'poor planning' as the cause of my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more fully and I trust the following detail will be sufficient. I am an amateur radio operator and on the day of the accident, I was working alone on the top section of my new 80-foot tower. When I had completed my work, I discovered that I had, over the course of several trips up the tower, brought up about 300 pounds of tools and spare hardware. Rather than carry the now unneeded tools and material down by hand, I decided to lower the items down in a small barrel by using the pulley attached to the gin pole at the top of the tower. Securing the rope at ground level, I went to the top of the tower and loaded the tools and material into the barrel. Then I went back to the ground and untied the rope, holding it tightly to ensure a slow decent of the 300 pounds of tools." "You will note in block number 11 of the accident reporting form that I weigh only 155 pounds. Due to my surprise of being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rather rapid rate of speed up the side of the tower. In the vicinity of the 40-foot level, I met the barrel coming down. This explains my fractured skull and broken collarbone. Slowed only slightly, I continued my rapid ascent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep into the pulley. Fortunately, by this time, I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold onto the rope in spite of my pain. At approximately the same time, however, the barrel of tools hit the ground and the bottom fell out of the barrel." "Devoid of the weight of the tools, the barrel now weighed approximately 20 pounds. I refer you again to my weight in block number 11. As you might imagine, I began a rapid descent down the side of the tower. In the vicinity of the 40-foot level, I met the barrel coming up. This accounts for the two fractured ankles, and the lacerations of my legs and lower body. The encounter with the barrel slowed me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell onto the pile of tools and, fortunately, only three vertebrae were cracked. I am sorry to report, however, that as I lay there on the tools, in pain, unable to stand and watching the empty barrel 80 feet above me, I again lost my presence of mind. I let go of the rope..."
