I love the map! Keep 'em coming.
  2. NHP - New Horizons Productions Map Thread

Larger maps can be created, but, in my experience, are no fun to play on because they take forever not just to render, but it also takes a really long time every time the region loads on the region view screen.

Then you don't have the config.bmp in the proper folder, or the config.bmp file is not in a correct format. If you can take a screenshot of your region folder, and post it here... that may help. Also, if you right click your region folder, and copy the path, and paste it here, that might help too.
  4. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

No, it's not the jpg that's causing the problem, it's the config.bmp file. If it's not in the right folder, or if it's not the right config.bmp file, or if it's not named "config.bmp", or if it's not the correct colors, it would be giving you that message. As you can see, there are a lot of different things it could be.
  5. MallowTheClouds Maps

Yeah, that, and the resizing, probably made the resolution pretty bad. If you'd like, I could make a more detailed version of the map in sections (2 or 4?)

I'd be more than happy to take up these requests (Calgary and Hong Kong). I just ask for some time, as I have school and a job to worry about as well. HabLeUrG; it's no problem. And if you'd like to help, please do! There's a thread called "Official Mapping Community Requests" with LOADS of requests just waiting to be fulfilled. Pick whichever ones you want to do.
  7. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

No... let's see... how else to explain this. After you have created a region folder in the right location, and placed the config.bmp file in the folder... 1. Open SC4 2. Click the "Region View Options" button. It should be on the top left of the region screen 3. Click the "Load Region" button. It should look like a folder 4. Scroll down to the correct region, click it to highlight it, and click "Load Region." The region name should be the same as the name of your newly created region folder. 5. THEN you should do CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R, find the greyscale jpg, and open it. That will start the rendering.
  8. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

Yeah... that might be a bit confusing. First you have to open the region as wouanagaine said, THEN you do the ctrl-alt-shift-r to import the greyscale jpg image.
  9. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

Regarding the Region.ini file, the game will create one on its own. Yes, you do need to have the region open. After you have created a region folder and placed the proper config.bmp file in the folder, open up SC4. Then, where you select which region to open, open your new region. If you're still having problems, let us know.

Thanks, Vandy! By no means are we trying to render anybody "unnecessary." In fact, we encourage others to improve and become great map makers as well, as you have done.

MallowTheCloud here! I've been here at Simtropolis for a while, and have been making maps for much of that time. Since I started, I have learned a lot about mapping, though I still have some learning to do yet, I'm sure. Nevertheless, if anybody has any questions about map making or maps in general, I'd be happy to try to help. And if I can't answer your questions, I'm sure somebody here at NHP will be able to. I am still in the process of making a detailed mapping tutorial. It takes a lot of practice, but in my opinion, the ability to make accurate-scale real-world maps makes a person a very valuable asset to ST, as the amount of requests continues to skyrocket. I'd be delighted to see more real-world mappers... but that's not to say I am not happy with the current group. Every map maker deserves a chance, and many have proven to be very skilled from the get-go. I look forward to working with the rest of the NHP members, and any other map-curious folks who drop in!

You were right! [MainWindow]y = -32000 x = -32000quote> LOL, that would be the problem. Thanks!
  13. SC4Terraformer Support

It occurs on all regions. I have attached the log to this post. SC4Terraformer.zip

Hmm... I have an odd problem. The first few times I used 1.0, it worked great! I tried loading png images as maps, and they all came out fine. I even quit and restarted the program many times without a problem. However, recently, when I start the program, the window showing the "loading" information does not come up. Much worse, however, is that the main window never shows up. Every other window comes up (the preview map, the brush size/strength window, and the window to determine which cities won't be changed all come up fine). Any ideas?
  15. Mapp Squad Singapore

Yeah. Also, since I made this map over a year ago, I have improved in making maps.
  16. Merging City Tiles

Ah, I understand. You're using the "fill" tool (the paint bucket). Instead, use the "paint" tool (the pantbrush), and select the middle square size. That should be a 2x2 square... and just use four of them in a square pattern to make a 4x4 square of blue in the place you need. I hope that makes sense.

    Awesome information, wouanagaine!

Okinawa has been uploaded to the STEX, and should be available shortly!
  20. Making Accurate-Scale Real-World Maps

Thanks for the comments! The first template will be from the water-boundary files from NASA... so it will already be the right size. The only problem is, it's not very detailed, so if you want very detailed rivers and lakes and such, you'll need to make another water template from a satellite image and resize it.
  21. Making Accurate-Scale Real-World Maps

I'm glad you find this useful! It's not nearly complete yet, but when it is, I'll look in to how to put it on the Omnibus.

To render the map... * Load Sim City 4 * Load the new Long Beach region * Press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-R * Find the greyscale.jpg map you downloaded and load it For the Montreal map, do the same, except with a folder called Montreal, and the Montreal config.bmp file, and the Montreal greyscale.jpg map.
  23. MallowTheClouds Maps

Hello. You need to include the config.bmp in your region folder. So, for example, for the Long Beach map... * Make a region folder called Long Beach in C:\Documents and Settings\Mallow\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\ * Place the config.bmp file that comes with the Long Beach map in the new region folder * Try to render the map
