  1. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

I would like to get an opinion from anyone willing to give me one - LOL on what I hope will be the First Bat that i upload here on Simtropolis. Below please find 4 images taken from Gmax. In each of these images you will find the Day shot to left, and night to the Right. Please be honest with me and tell me what you think. Thanks so much - Stephen East Preview / North Preview / South Preview / West Preview I hope you all think it measures up the the STEX Quality!
  2. BAT4Max v.5

Yes Sir i did install the original bat. I am currently using it to make billboards and other props. It is working very well for that, but as far as 3ds max 2012 goes... nothing i have made so far has been successful at creating. However, if i make something very small in size, and then export it as a 3ds, i have been able to import it into gmax and so far, been able to create a working model. Well, i say working, but i have yet to test them... LOL It appears that either windows 7 or 3ds max simply does not like my setup... LOL As i stated earlier... every design so far has failed, ending up in the 3ds max software completely locking up. Thinking maybe i should downgrade to say 2010 or 2011? But, before i do that drastic of a move... i have ordered a new copy of windows xp for a secondary machine i have... i am wondering if that might be a more viable solution to my troubles? As currently all 4 of my pc's are windows 7 sp1. Oh, Mr Fox - let me say that the error pictured above was taken care of when i completely removed everything and then resinstalled.from scratch. Now its on to the issues above. LOL I am also thinking it has something to do with my image sizes/types or perhaps the fact that most of my creations so far, have been very large...... 25,000 poly's or more. Could that be a huge issue?
  3. BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

Just wanted to drop a quick line in here to ask a few general questions. I am learning 3ds max and gmax. I have noticed while playing around with exports, that things tend to lock up or fail to export with really large texture images. I have been looking through threads, but have not found any that specifically tell me what size to use. I am guessing that smaller is better for use in gaming applications? Upon doing my test exports, i have noticed that anything i have created with small texture or material images, came out perfect. While others with more detailed and larger pixel images came up with many error codes, including the ERROR 6 message mentioned earlier in this thread. Can someone please direct me to a thread that discusses the following: Good Rules to follow when creating models for SimCity what file sizes to use for best performance or rendering? Most common issues? (or what to try to avoid?) Best practices for reducing your file size to make sure it will be compatible for exporting it to an sc4 model. And anything other suggested reading, for a person interested in JUST learning for right now. Finally - on a side note: If i were to create a building or other items, and pack it up into a zip file, are there people here that would be willing to covert it into an sc4 model until i learn this process completely? Thanks in advance, Stephen

  5. EA Working On Unannounced 'Maxis Style Sim Game'

Well, I do not know if EA Games has any intent on a SimCity 5 or not, but my guess would be that they WILL NOT. Now this guess is not based on a mere hunch or gut feeling but based on research. I have been looking at trademark applications lately, and found that SimCity's trademarks and copyright's are starting to expire. Now this would not normally mean much, but during my research, I have uncovered that EA Games has NOT renewed them. HUM does this mean that they are walking away from the whole SimCity game? This is the question on my mind.
  6. 3ds Max - Troubleshooting & General Discussion

Sorry to bother you, but i am NEW to the BAT scene and have many projects in the works. But, i have encountered many issues. First let me say that i am using Autodesk 3D Max 2012 Student addition. I installed Gmax, i have installed the Bat4max and then bat4max v5. After doing so, non of my models are rendering correctly. Example, i have a building that i made, all the maps in Gmax are correct, the render fine when previewing, but when you go to creation of the model, they are missing textures or materials? Very frustrating to me LOL. I have a suspicion that my trouble are all related to the fact that i am RUNNING windows 7. Am i correct in this theory? If so, if i want to be able to transfer my creations from Autodesk into an SC4 model, are there any solutions for me? I guess what i am really asking is this, All of my computers run windows 7, know this, is there programs that WILL WORK FOR ME to be able to create Simcity material? I have looked all over trying to download and try many many programs, but so far, the best i can do for now is to edit someone else's lots, and this IS not what i want to do. Can you please help? Or point me in the right direction? Thank you so much in advance,,,, Stephen
