  1. I neither like nor dislike the new SimCity. To be frank, I don't care enough about it anymore to develop any feelings whatsoever. The only thing that could get me to change my mind and even think about buying it is overall decent user reviews after it's released. Until then, I'll stick with a modded CXL and CiM (as well as CiM 2, when it comes out). I agree completely. The flaming needs to stop, on both sides. I post in this forum because I think that discussing it is interesting. I like speculation, and following a potentially great game along to its completion is always fun. Unfortunately, this game didn't turn out to be the one for me, but that doesn't mean I can't still come back once in a while, see how things are going, and talk about it. But with all the arguments and fights on here, discussion is no longer constructive or enjoyable.
  2. Since I am no longer interested in this game, I won't be watching. I do appreciate the effort that Maxis is putting forth, however, and I hope those that are still debating whether or not to buy it will get the answers they want. EDIT: That's actually what Will Wright initially envisioned the SimCity series to be, a huge virtual 'city' filled with Sims. I think that's the direction they're trying to take the game in, if of course this game does well and they make sequels. It's a neat concept, but if I wanted to create my own virtual people, I'd play the Sims. I really hope Maxis leaves that stuff out of the remade SimCity series (if there are sequels).
  3. OH NOEZ! XL Nation is OFFLINE!

Hey Ohadi, it's been a while! I look forward to see you and everyone else back at XLN tomorrow (hopefully).
  4. OH NOEZ! XL Nation is OFFLINE!

Latest news in case you missed it: http://forum.citiesxl.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6147&start=30#p59066 So if you're wondering when to check back in, Friday is a good bet. My bet is that if not Friday, it'll be back up over the weekend sometime.
  5. It can be very cool - that video is a good example. The problem I have with it, when used in a video game, is that it makes the city look more like a video game, and less realistic. Again, in that video, there were many times when one probably couldn't tell if it were real or a video game. There was one scene of a construction lot that looked like a model railroad set. Nothing wrong with that, and it's pretty neat if it's real life that's being altered to look like that, but IMO a realistic city simulation shouldn't look like a model railroad set. It should look like real life. I'm sure they'll have the option to turn it off, though.
  6. I'm curious as well. They really haven't mentioned anything about curvy roads yet; it's all been about mass transit, highways, the regional transportation systems, etc. You know, the stuff that people actually care about right now. That and those AWESOME robot and guitar shaped mini-cities.
  7. OH NOEZ! XL Nation is OFFLINE!

We'll see. CXL in general has seen a resurgence of activity recently. It's good to see the game, albeit heavily modded, finally get the good attention it deserves.
  8. OH NOEZ! XL Nation is OFFLINE!

I'm around. I don't know what the problem is; your guess is as good as mine. I wouldn't worry about it though, give it time and HW will get it back up and running. EDIT: I was also going to point out that there is also a thread on the FHI forums about the outage, however, checking back I found it has mysteriously disappeared...
  9. CitiesXL 2012 details

2012 can be very buggy. FHI unfortunately doesn't quite have their act put together, and they overlooked several things which shouldn't have made it past testing - not that they did much testing to begin with. Fortunately the community finished what FHI couldn't and the game is more or less working fine (save for some lag issues, to which we have workarounds). I'd try opening a new thread or asking on a more active forum, such as XL Nation.
  10. My sentiments exactly, Dee. At least this time they touched upon something people actually care about - transport. Of course, they mention little about mass transit and instead focus on those treasured "curvy roads". Not sure why they're so proud of them considering CXL and SimCity Creator already featured them.
  11. I don't mean to sound rude but what the heck are you talking about? It sounds like you're saying you have the game, which obviously isn't true.
  12. As it is now, its exactly what EA wants, a clone of SimCity social, and not much else. I, for one, will be spending my money towards games with companies that actually give a crap about their customers (CiM 2). Of course, this is sad for Maxis, who, while I don't really care for the way this game is turning out, I know do care about the fans and do want to make a quality game.
  13. Simcity shirt

    Take a chill pill.
  14. Technically not curvy roads in SCC, but multiple straight roads connected at small angles. See image. CitiesXL was the first with true curvy roads. That still looks just as good, if not better, than SC2013 to me...
  15. Instead of building these outlandish towns, why can't you just built a realistic city? Of course, considering the small map sizes and isolated city locations, that's not possible. Rats.
  16. I'm sorry but that's just unrealistic. Don't get me wrong, I am disappointed by this new SimVille Maxis/EA are passing off as a new SimCity, but trying to get enough experts together to make a worthy sequel just isn't going to work out, let alone getting everyone to pay $100 (really?)!
  17. You know, I find it interesting how Maxis and its supporters never want to address this issue. It will sure be entertaining to see how the new SimVille will "solve" yet another problem of its own making.
  18. Visiting other cities in Cities XL

I never played the online mode so I don't know. I assume you could have stayed.
  19. Visiting other cities in Cities XL

That doesn't matter, since the multiplayer mode in CXL2009 has long since been shut down. The new versions of the game are completely offline.
  20. What does the future hold for CXL?

Well, CXL does have many technical issues. For me, that's the only big problem I have with the game. Even then, however, some people have shared "workarounds" to help reduce the lag. They don't all work well, but they do help.
  21. What does the future hold for CXL?

    And you know that how?
  22. You might want to post this on XL Nation, in this forum: http://xlnation.net/forum/50 It's a lot more active than this forum is and you're more likely to get someone willing to import them for you.
  23. Informative Cities in Motion 2 Video

It will be. Heck, at least you can actually create a CITY. Just because you're a screaming Maxis fangirl doesn't mean everyone else is...
  24. SimCity: Gameplay

    Where'd they confirm it? https://twitter.com/...594511831236611 https://twitter.com/...596827946893313
  25. SimCity: Gameplay

They are not going to fix the maps. Get that out of your head right now. Small maps are what you will be playing with. You say it with so much certainty, how do you know for sure? I would agree that it's very unlikely that we will get bigger maps at release, but we don't know that for sure. And we have no way of knowing that they won't add bigger maps in the future after release. I know the game won't be getting larger maps. Why? Maxis confirmed it. TWICE. The map size in the demo (4 sq. km) is what players will be working with, unfortunately.
