  1. It lasts something like 35 years. I had one hit a residential area, I just put a school on top of it Residents move out when radiated, apparently teachers do not.
  2. Electronics HQ

Why TV's? Computers trade for more. Computers trade for more right now, but if the prices go back to how they were...tvs will be better.
  3. The reason you have no traffic is because you only have 40k population. Go for 600k and see how it goes
  4. With current prices, metal is more profitable(no coal required).
  5. Definitely not the case. It's either related to how many storage areas you have or how many trade port/depots you have.
  6. It's not realistic. It's taking advantage of the global market not being implemented and that factories will run with way fewer than the required workers. But once the global market is implemented, creating a realistic electronics city should be possible. Depends how the global market works. Here's the screenshots anyways: https://i.imgur.com/TqF4xMx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/BH3K6nB.jpg The stupid thing is, you can get nearly that much money from electronics with a fraction of the population. I have a city with 25k people and make 10-12 million a month. It's because electronics truly is broken. You can have 1 worker in the building and it works exactly the same as if you had a few hundred.
  7. Appears they do indeed offline 20 loads at a time. Still, considering the frequency at which ships come, I don't really see it being a problem.
  8. In terms of which if faster/easier/more straight-forward, pretty sure gambling is at the bottom of the list for specialties. Mining or Drilling: 1) Build shafts 2) Export 3) Great Profits Electronics: 1) Do mining/Drilling first 2) Add a few schools 3) Import plastics/alloys 4) Make processors 5) Huge Profit Can hardly get easier than that.
  9. Ships fill your cargo areas. So if you can hold 60k tons of plastic, they'll deliver up to 60k tons of plastic. They do only hold 1 item at a time though. Depending on the city, it is probably ideal to have each port containing only 1 item. ie: have 3 ports. 1 for plastic, alloy and tvs.
  10. You mean all your buildings are high density? Then you can't, that's it. The only thing you can do now is outsource things(power, water, sewage, etc) to save space and thus zone more rci. Also, you may need to rezone some areas for balance. If you have high density streets but buildings are not progressing you may need happiness(parks, services, etc) and/or just time for them to progress.
  11. One of my cities uses rail(because there is no water access) and the train does indeed drop off large quantities of alloys(100+ tons). Sadly, ships are WAY better, completely filling the storage area.
  12. It should be noted that gambling/tourism is getting a bunch of fixes in 2.0 release.
  13. It's the nature of casinos and tourism. There are peaks and valleys depending on time of day and if there are any events going on, among other things. Having hotels only costs you money. They keep tourists in the city sure, but that's it. The next day when the tourists leave the hotel, then they can spend more money but until then hotels only cost you. As such, expect your income to never be stable.
  14. The hotel addons for casinos are absurdly expensive and hold very few people. I had some commercial hotels, 3 beside each other and across the street from my casinos, they held 700+ each and cost me...nothing! Sounds like a good reason to me.
  15. Picking a powerplant

Depending on what you have planned for your city, wind fails hard! if you want any sort of mining/drilling/electronics, you'd have the entire city filled with windmills vs the tiny little corner with 1-2 power plants.
  16. Before this wouldn't be worth it(60k to buy parts for a processor), but now with processors costing 100k to import, it probably is worth it to make them instead. You will definitely run into another giant issue...map size. The damn buildings are huge. So even if it is, profit wise, better to build them, you will fill most of your city with ground polluting manufacturing buildings. Better off to spend a bit more and save a whole ton of space.
  17. I had a city rollback 4 or 5 times in 5 minutes. Once, it had to be rolledback and then when I entered, it instantly failed to process and had to rollback again... After that insanity, no issues loading for a week. Then it happened again(different city). 3-5 rollbacks within a few minutes. Why the hell wouldn't it save locally and then sync it online? bah.
  18. That's not broken, that's just a balance issue and will be adjusted if they feel it needs to be. This is common with multiplayer games. The economy is static right now while they fix more critical issues. Once they turn on the dynamic economy we will see how things balance out and changes will be made. I get the need for balance(not having resources last forever), but they're all but gone after only a few sim years. If you grow accordingly, your city won't even have half the area covered and you'll be out of coal/oil/ore. It's way too fast....
  19. Picking a powerplant

Depending on what you have in your city, the concentrated solar arrays do a great job. They don't take up a ton of space, they're cheap and provide good amounts of power. This assumes that you aren't running heavy power things(mining, drilling, etc).
  20. The main broken thing with mining/drilling, is the fact that the supplies only last a few months. Any real city would have resources for decades.
  21. Nuclear plant

Never had a meltdown...Education level of 3+ and it's been fine.
  22. Sounds ridiculous, but I've honestly never had any problems getting coal/oil from global deliveries. The only time my plants ran out of fuel was when I forgot to check "accept global deliveries"...
  23. I wish you could do clever things like in real life. Many countries offer services for free and just have higher tax rates. So something like free health care/education/transit in exchange for higher taxes could make things interesting. As in stands, once you put taxes at 12% or higher, everyone eventually leaves.
  24. Not sure, but at one point I had 3 all beside each other. Each one had 600-800 tourists in them. Normal lodging costs a fortune and you get so few able to actually stay there. If you could plan this on purpose, you could save thousands, if not tens of thousands, an hour.
  25. No jokes, in 5 minutes I had 3 rollbacks in 1 city. A few hours later, in another city, I had 5 more rollbacks in 5 minutes(3 of them were almost back to back). The insane thing is, I wasn't even doing anything. I was trying to build a great works site(need to send a zillion resources), so I was just letting it run. Anyone know why? Or just really bad luck?
