  1. Thats why i sorta ignore anything Maxis says and just watch the gameplay..... I could tell by pure eyeball the scales were different. But yea, the scales are different and they really shouldnt make the claims they are..but what do you expect from an EA company these days.
  2. The problem is the glassbox

Not really. For the most part the only differences between the I5 and I7 have been hyperthreading, a slightly bigger L3 cache and .1 of a mhz. You would not notice any difference between the two in a gaming environment.
  3. I watched some of the going green last night. What is going on with the traffic at 1:08 till about 1:11 in that video? Just after they built the tram roads? It looks like the traffic sim breaks and just sorta bogs down and creates a massive traffic issue... It seems to show 2 lanes of traffic trying to turn left onto a one lane road and bogging down because of it. I dont know if they ever did or not, but the traffic then stops moving even on green lights and everything just sorta goes to poo traffic wise around that area because traffic has just stopped for the most part for several minutes...
  4. The problem is the glassbox

Because of the leaderboards and multiplayer is why all the maps are uniform in size. Could you imagine the complaints that would happen that Average Joe cant get on the leaderboard with his medium city because 1% Jimmy has a beast of a computer that can run a super large map. Another consideration is large maps would completely destroy an element they desperately want in the game for some reason, city specialization.
  5. The first two are showing off the plopable system. The 3rd one is showing off the ability to change the colors/materials which would of really helped with building variety, too bad that got cut. Now as to what the buildings are, the 3rd is obviously a school, the first 2 are mystifying. The 2nd sorta looks like an Embassy of some sort. 1st one I have no idea.
  6. Amazon selling download which is 3kb?

Wait... We have to use the keys in Origin? I thought the 3kb file was the Amazon game downloader progam (you have to download thru this program) Everything will go through Origin. Amazon, Gamersgate, etc just sell keys to use on origin.
  7. What's the first city you'll build?

As any game I like to do the opposite of what is popular. Green, pretty cities seem to be the in thing...so when I get simcity (when its 39.99 or lower) id make a heavy heavy heavy industry city.
  8. I think this is an inexact analogy at best. Just because so far it doesn't seem designed to allow someone to replicate London down to the street signs doesn't mean there isn't a large element of building and planning, especially when you consider that so many buildings are upgradable with separate 'plop points'. (For people who haven't played, for example this means that you can build a fire station, but later you can go back and add more truck garages to it, an alarm bell, etc, in a number of possible different expansion points for each lot, and those additions are all visible and animated.) I agree the plopable feature was a nice addition, but its not the majority of the game play. Fact remains this game is more a focus on the sims and not the city. Some people like that, some people dont.
  9. Easy answer to this question.... If you were to build a model train set would you get the most enjoyment out of : 1) Building the set and planning the layouts... or 2) Watching the trains go around.... If you answered 2. Then yes, pre-order. If you answered 1. Avoid till much cheaper.
  10. I want to pre order this game

The deluxe stuff will be a DLC, and all DLC goes on sale eventually via spring/summer/xmas sales....... .so why pay full price for only visual bits in a "deluxe" version....when you can get them for cheaper later.
  11. New Screenshots

This game obviously doesnt use exact scale.
  12. When events weren't scheduled, traffic into the city flowed along nicely. When events were scheduled, it was a nightmare. (Interestingly, the criminals always knew when to leave to avoid being caught in the traffic.) One of the Maxis devs noticed my traffic problems and offered the following key thought: "See, you have an intersection right on the highway connection. That's a mistake. Intersections slow your traffic down and make it more difficult for your sims to get into your city." So if I were given the city to play over again and armed with that information, I would have designed the tourist center much differently. Sims would exit the main highway and find themselves on an avenue with no intersections. There would be bus stops, street car stops, and the like to encourage the sims to get off the road. The road would wind past the various tourist destinations (again without intersections) and the sims could get off the road or the mass transit at the desired location. Additionally, I would bring rail lines from my connection at the back of the city up to the tourist destinations to enable me to pull more sims in from the rail networks. I think that with removing the things that are slowing down the movement of the sims (like the intersections) and providing opportunities to move more sims through a smaller area (the mass transit) I could have probably turned the traffic nightmare into little more than a moderate annoyance. I would of been like...well then let me have more than one friggin highway entrance lol.
  13. New Screenshots

That would drive me nuts to see that if its truly the case. Either the AI is doing some herding instinct or that road network needs a retweek if its causing that many left turn issues. I wish i could see the grid in that city to see whats going on there...OCD.
  14. New Screenshots

Why is everybody using the same lane in this photo? If the traffic is "real" in this game, id be pretty pissed that my city is having traffic issues because the cars arnt using the lanes properly.
  15. So would you say due to the excessive pollution, having a long-term industrial town is out of the question? Does the game have a built in bias towards green?
  16. New Closed Beta on Wed Feb 28

Im thinking since its a full version of the game, they are testing their anti-piracy stuff.
  17. Do Sims like a view?

Id be curious to know the answer to this as wlel.. I have a hunch the glassbox engine cant see anything outside of anything connected to a road. So there is no map wide land values, just land values for things connected to roads. Now whether or not a bonus is included in the algorithm for surrounding terrain (natural terrain, height, cliffs, sea etc) or not is what we are looking for. Im leaning towards no just on from what seen, but i would like to be proven wrong.
  18. New Closed Beta on Wed Feb 28

They must be very worried about their servers.
  19. In that case I would have to agree. I think the GlassBox engine is the defining feature of the new SimCity. Its the ONLY feature of this new simcity. I want them to do a Simtower remake, but im afraid they might be so focused on the people living in the tower and their daily needs that they will limit the tower size to 4 floors.
  20. Also note that the game probably only has about 20 hours of content max.
  21. I remember leaving a SC2000 city running all night to generate money for a remodel of the city, It was a large map spanning city, and I remember waking up in the morning to the shock of finding the vast majority of the city being nothing but ashes as I forgot to turn off disasters. it was kinda cool seeing the random nature of the fires as they burned the whole map, as there were little pockets of abandoned buildings in just vast seas of that rubble graphic. I never did find out what disaster(s) wiped out that city.
  22. Discussion about City Tile Size

no its not. The scales are different. 2km in this new simcity isnt the same as 2km in SC4. You can easily see that.
  23. Discussion about City Tile Size

The problem is that in a sandbox game, it should be up to the players, and not the developers to determine what is the limit their computer can handle. I dont full buy the computer limitations excuse honestly. I think its because regional play and leaderboards are the main focus of this game. And it would be "unfair" to have the "1%ers" with mega computers having the largest cities on the largest maps with every resource leading on all the boards. Plus theyd have to make all those said maps, since they dont have a random regional generator or anything. (they desperately need to add that if they arnt gonna allow regional terraforming )
  24. Id prefer if they spent the time on regional stuff considering thats the main focus of the game. Id like to see how it functions on large regions.
  25. SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks

No. They are clearly not going to be be implementing and testing subways in the time before launch. Subways will only appear as part of a future release (and will probably not be part of a free upgrade). The info came from the community day, they said they were looking into it but had UI and tech issues. They made NO promises, but they did not say if it would be free or paid if it did come to the game. I did not say they would appear, I said that they would only be part of a future release. Perhaps my phrasing was unclear. I was also making a guess that they would not introduce a major new feature without charging for it. Which is not unreasonable given the DLC they charge for in other games. I think, that if you are gonna use the same name as a previous title, that its unreasonable to charge for things in the new item that were in the previous version. Even if you want to call it a reboot or whatever, its still of poor taste. I mean if they want to piggy back on the name recognition of the Simcity brand, then they should provide the basic tools of a simcity game. Everything that existed in the basic release version of SC4 should be in the game free of charge. Everything that came in SC3 should of been in SC4 etc etc. I have no problem if they wanted to start over....but they should of not used the simcity name for this game..... Fact is this game should of been called Simcity: Societies 2, but the name is too toxic. I can understand their reasoning, but it doesnt mean it isnt a cheap move.
