How do I prevent this?
Sunfighter replied to Sunfighter's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
FIXED! sorta.....As far as I know there isnt a way to separate wealth shoppers via a visuals. BUT destroying A LOT of commerical and zoning R instead, lead to a VAST improvement. So there is something really messed up between the relationship of shoppers, commercial and residential zones that breaks down at a certain point. It MAYBE tied to the fudged population numbers given later on. It SEEMS that maybe homes are producing more shopper agents then they have residents. Or Commerical is spawning way too many shoppers returning home than it should. This floods your road network with tons of happy fulfilled shoppers....but nowhere to go..so they head out of the city to disappear forever. YET the graphs show you have fulfilled your shoppers and in fact it said i had a deficit of shopping in middle class....yet IT WASNT TRUE AT ALL. This may also be tied to parks and their giving of commercial happiness. Notice im way behind in shopper satisfaction..yet very few are actually commuting out..when they should be able to......notice how my population has grown greatly...and even better...notice the traffic...ITS ALL GONE. bye bye traffic problems. Commerical happiness is up due to less competition....R has gone up..though some areas cant find shopping now..but its just a matter of tweaking the zoning a bit. So...something in the Sim has an unbalance..either its the parks, the shoppers produced by R, or produced by C, either way.....if your getting heavy traffic, and if they are all shoppers leaving the city.....you have a unbalance of C to R, even though the NUMBERS graph doesnt say so. A city of 110,000....no traffic problems other then a small back up at a light from a small commute of workers. Problem solved. -

Negative, on the influx of people, in fact I had none. Working on a theory that there just isnt enough housing to soak up the shoppers. Something is bugged with shopper counts I think. Hence the strong commerical growth even though demand shows none. Im gonna work on a theory, and destroy a lot of commercial zones..,,, There is an unbalance....too much C not enough R, even though it doesnt show it in the numbers graph. -

Okay ive confirmed that this is the case. I went to a smaller city and noticed Commercial shoppers were returning home and giving happiness. At a certain population (to be determined) this part of the simulation SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY. Either by bug or on purpose (they could disable parts of the simulation once the agent count starts to get high). The shoppers that were supposed to find a house...just decide to leave the city. That many agents on auto leave just causes a massive bottleneck. This cant be intended could it? -

So, the game lists these people as shoppers, Yet, they arnt commuting out to go buy stuff.....They have a happy face...are these....the shoppers that are SUPPOSED to go home and raise residential happiness? I notice that every residential building has the baseline happiness for their density......i think these are the people that USED to head home after shopping and raise residential happiness when the town was smaller....now they just leave the town? wow...i think they are...is this another bug? or intended? shopping residents are NOT returning home to give happyness or searching for homes..they are just...leaving the city after buying goods.....hmmm....very interesting... -

Gold are the tourists, they mostly like foot traffic, and the vast majority stay between my two casinos. There are 3 hotels within the downtown core. Not many tourists really... Not many commuting out... One thing I found curious....nobody is listed as "at home"....is that implying everybody is out on the street ? -

Buses dont work. Trams dont work. Moving the high school i havent tried yet. But its not the problem I dont think. Its the god damn one lane exit ramp. Its like my city is attached by a dirt road basically, and since this is a tourist town, they just go balls up trying to leave the city. The game right now..is trying to figure out how the hell to trick the "simulation" into clearing out the roads. Heck ive even did a queue road all windy and such to hold this useless "had a great vacation, going home" traffic and the queue filled up completely and still backloged all the way into my city. Its the one freaking highway exit thats killing my town. I mean look at it, every one of those cars, wants to take that one exit ramp... and its causing this.... 90% of the traffic is all trying to just leave the damn city. \ On the bright side...they are using the ring road like i planned, so its keeping the mess out most my city cept for the casinos and tourist district. (which are now losing money because tourists cant even move due to wall to wall traffic) -

LOL the lst of things broken in this game is enormous. What a mess. Not sure its broken, Its just very hard to understand and get to function the way you want to due to the extreme restrictions on tourism. why can high wealth only use boats or airports? I can understand them not coming on buses..but why cant they come in their own cars? why cant they take a train? It gets even worse trying to deal with them the next day, since a lot of your C will then convert to hotels...which strangely leaving a hotel the tourists all magically get a car sometimes (though sometimes its a taxi..dunno what determines that). And they all try to get out of the city....which if you have an unlucky cloverleaf at the exit of your city.....enjoy the traffic back up...as NOTHING will fix it. Ive tried everything..nothing works.. -

The only high wealth tourists I get are from airports and cruise ships. -

I have no trouble getting gamblers into my city...its getting them out thats the problem. The damn cloverleaf exits out of the city are only one lane....so traffic just backs up like crazy trying to LEAVE the city..and since they are leaving the region and the city..park and rides..and mass transit dont seem to help any. -

Sunfighter replied to RRtexasranger's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Problem seems to be the amount of tourists you can bring in. If you dont have a large region, you wont have many tourists to bring in..and increasing the number of tourists is always tough. Then getting them the heck out of the city is the next big leap... -
Traffic and intersections
Sunfighter replied to Maeltne's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I actually believe a lot of that issue is more based on the AIs problems turning left effectively. More intersections = more left turns = more problems. -

Sunfighter replied to Sunfighter's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
So changing the one intersection to a medium connecter DID fix the issue with the left hand lane...but it still leaves me with this.... How do i get these lil dudes out faster! GO GET OUT! GO ! looking at them, most of them are tourists leaving the region..... That one lane exit ramp just seems to bugger everything up! -
Is simcity faking population ?
Sunfighter replied to Tramwhet's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
We knew that from the jobs figures honestly, we just hoped it was a bug. But yea....it all filters down into the same old problem...the map sizes are too small. Sadly if they just renamed the game to something else, and admitted its a work in progress of a new engine theyd like to eventually use for simcity..and sold it for 39.99...everybody would be alright with all this..but it was the marketing lies that screwed them over. -

The intersection isnt causing the problem I dont think. All those cars on the right are leaving the city. So its backing from the highway towards the intersection. The left side heading into the city isnt the problem here...its a side effect of the right side..ill explain... its a problem with the left turn mechanic on a full intersection... The vast majority of those stuck on the left side of the Ave. want to turn left and go down that "off ramp" i have built, but only go about 1-2 cars worth go on a light because of the right lane backed up to the intersection..since the right lane has the right of way during a green light..they want to go..but cant..and the left turn lane wont go either because the AI sees traffic incoming and stops...even if that incoming traffic is in fact stopped due to back up......so it wont turn left even though it clearly could.....so again..its the right lane leaving the city causing all the problems... Its the people leaving the city....The left lane backing up too is just a side effect... Adding more intersections wont work...again..they are leaving the city...they dont want to go into the city anywhere..they just want to leave...BUT the vast majority want to leave towards my neighbors city...so...its going from a 3 lane ave, to the 1 lane exit ramp on the regional interstate..something we dont have any control of. I cant change that..its outside the dotted lines. I havent tried adding park and ride and buses....Im not sure itd work on traffic leaving the city...I suppose thats the only option i have control over....but im terrified of an invasion of a wall of buses from neighbors that ive seen on reddit and other places. I just dont see any solution to this that isnt obvious. My first instinct would be to destroy that damn interstate exchange and redesign it..but not having regional controls...very painful.. -
Looks like they are using that NO C or I needed method that was posted today.

How does the library fit into this? It seems to have a mechanic different from education. Seems more based on Shopper demand.

Especially after using a University. Although, if this is how it works, I have a feeling they messed up the code and will fix it. IMO, a city that wants to focus on education should need a grade school for kids, high school for students, and a University for students. Or a way to track kids that go to grade school for (let's just throw a random number out here) 7 days then go to high school/Community College if there are no high schools. Or, maybe have it so kids always go to Grade Schools and the "student" population has to go to High School first to go to a University (again, let's just say they have to go for 7 days). And students without a high school or University in their town either are made equivalent to a "worker" OR they an go to Community College if one is set up. A lot of things that are required in the real world...theyve cut corners with....for space reasons im assuming. A high school, grade school, college and university would take up a ton of space. PS. I assumed this once I noticed the high school and grade school buses were sharing the same bus stops, and cluttering up my traffic. My city was making enough money that it didnt matter...SPACE on the other hand...is worth is weight in Mer...

Streetcar behavior per Maxis lead gameplay scriptor.
Sunfighter replied to Board_Marshal's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Sweet, one of my fav things is just putting the sim in turtle and watch the garbage trucks go around. PS. I ran into a bug night (very expensive one =/). See that lil smidge of medium ave? I cant upgrade that with the tool. Has something to do with the schools. Had to destroy them both. Not a terrible thing, that was the worst placement for a college ever. Everytime class would let out traffic would stop on the ave till the school cleared out. -
I have people complaining there is no hotels for them to stay, how do i get them?
Sunfighter replied to bigmummylover's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
youre lucky, I have about half my hotels abandoned, I destroy them, they reappear. The ones that arnt broke, release waves of taxis right at the start of the morning rush creating massive gridlock. -
You gotta see these 2 Youtube videos: guy pwns traffic for 400k city, no mass transit
Sunfighter replied to Board_Marshal's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I wish I could talk to that guy. Im still somewhat struggling on getting the traffic AI to do what I want. Here was my latest try, The highway entrance was that one ave. The only way off it was those "off ramps". My hope was to compartmentalize the map, so the AI entering the city would have to take its "exit" and nothing else. This worked pretty well, till the city zoned high density. For some reason once you make that jump to high density the AI pretty much disregards the ring AVE all together and will dive head long into the core of the city even though it needs to cross the map to get to the industry/ city specialization zone. I dont know if there is any way to prevent the AI from going though the core without isolating the entire downtown to the point that it chokes from its own internal traffic. This town made it to about 80K before the off-ramps started to gridlock. Adding more wont do anything but cause gridlock everywhere... bleh.. i suck at this game lol. pretty tho....but again...the ring road is ignored completely...*sigh* -

Sadly commercial will then overdevelop for hotels and go out of business. lol. -

I honestly think they removed the C relying on I relationship because well lets face it, the maps are so tiny. To get a perfect 1 to 1 ratio of industry making goods, sending it to C, C selling it..and R to work and buy...youd need a fairly large map...or accept the fact youll have a very tiny area for residential and low residential numbers. So they disabled C relying on goods made by I. This allowed I to be pretty much unneeded. giving room for larger populations. Coupled with inflated numbers of high density buildings, youll get reasonable population numbers in the tiny maps provided.

I hope so. Im still scratching my head about why on T-intersections with 3 ways stops that one side will decide to not go at all till traffic has completely cleared on the cross street. This is causing moderate back-ups. And Ive checked the roads, they clearly show a 3 way stop sign, yet the AI seems to get confused and the intersecting road will come to a complete halt till all traffic has gone from the cross street. While the cross street continues to treat the intersection as a 3 way stop. So they will stop and go, sometimes if enough traffic is built up on the cross street, the intersecting road wont move for hours.

Do you have enough industry to keep your shops supplied with goods to sell? Freight doesnt matter. They disabled the I to C relationship. C functions fine without freight orders for some reason. There have been a ton of threads on this on reddit and simcity forums. http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9358082.page <--- one of the larger threads on it.
