A friend showed me this video of a game currently in development called Banished. It reminds me a bit of stronghold but the population mechanics seem to make a bit more sense to me. I hope it pans out well as development gets closer to completion.

I felt like playing the original SimCity, so I tried installing it off of a CD-ROM of the Windows 95 version that I had. The first hurdle (the installer didn't want to run under 64-bit) was easily passed by copying the program files to a folder and playing it from there. After playing for a while I realised that I couldn't save my city, or load another city because the game would instantly crash when I tried to do either of these things. Does anyone have any ideas for how I could remedy this problem?

Saving a city tile, uploading it for others to use?
Hoipus replied to Shazlow's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
It might be possible once offline mode comes along. -
I miss the scenarios they used to give you.

Where i could find, Simcity 2013's updates?
Hoipus replied to HazelSaturn007's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
The game is supposed to update through origin, I think. -
I see no problem with people who purchased SimCity downloading it from other places if they dislike Origin or Origin stops working/ want to be able to play the game without having to connect to the internet later to login to Origin (does Origin have an offline mode? I know Steam does.).

I'd like to see some sort of region maker, if terraforming in game is out of the question.

SimCity 2013 equivalent of NAM?

I am a fellow of my word. I'll at least prod the box.

Welp. I said some things along the lines of "I won't touch this game any further until it gets an offline mode" last year. I guess I'll be buying it sometime.

SimCity developer asks modders to maintain the integrity of the game.

Where do the people come from?

Little known fact: Sims are actually plants. -
Further evidence that SimCity has been designed for games who don't want to be able to fail.

What is Demon's/Dark Souls? Not true! If that was the case F-Zero GX would have sold more than 500k worldwide. Eternal Darkness being a good game failed to sell 250k worldwide. Xenoblade Chronicles failed to sell well in all three major markets. Bayonetta struggled to sell beyond 100k worldwide On the other hand: Aliens Colonial Marines sold over 600k in March in the U.S. despite being a horrible game with horrible reviews (it is close to 1M in the U.S.) If people wanted a game that allowed for full micromanagement, they would have bought Simcity 4 hand over fist. Sadly that was not the case, because Simcity 4 has sold about 2 million total to date, which is about the same as Simcity 1 on the PC. I think it's a bigger problem that sales of that much aren't considered satisfactory or are considered unprofitable. Maybe some fat needs to be trimmed? -
please explain I think he is referring to The Sims Social, which is shutting down in 2 months.

With Fraps it would be advisable to put it through a video editor of some kind even if you aren't cutting up the video, simply because the videos it spits out are huge, and would be impractical for uploading.
-
For something dead simple to use, I'd suggest Fraps. It even lets you record your microphone along with the sound of the game these days.

Does anyone has a Spare SimCity Beta Code?
Hoipus replied to X_N_'s topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
It'd be a bit pointless getting one now... why? i want to play the game plz? When a game is in beta, it generally means that the game is being released to people to play in a limited state for testing purposes. The game has been released, and the beta is closed. It was only up for a few days. -

Simcity 2013 exploited for the 'Pay to Win' model?
Hoipus replied to gmcausland's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They're doing that though. The international city packs contain improved transportation and law enforcement services, depending on which country you wish to make the city emulate. Since this is being sold as a multiplayer game with some competitive elements, it could be seen as giving someone an advantage for purchasing the city packs. The international city packs only change the look of buildings and vehicles. For example, the French police station is not better than the vanilla police station, it comes with the same amount of cars, the same response time, and the same number of jail cells. It doesn't improve anything other than the look. There are advantages to the different services: https://twitter.com/Iobham/status/296785226930221058 -
Quigley says YES to modding! EA says NO, and we'll ban you!
Hoipus replied to oldbrokenlink's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
It is possible. The latest EA decisions leave a gap of rules or even guidelines on what they consider the difference between a hack and a mod. It's rather unnerving really, since for a lot of people quite a bit is tied to their Origin account, to say the least. Equally there is still no information on any policy regarding content contributions. I could understand it if EA had a problem with people releasing their own free content parallel to EA's DLC's. It's a win-win situation for EA. If they take a no-tolerance approach, the user either won't attempt to mod the game, ensuring they play by the rules, or the users will try to be cautious, and make one origin account for each game, so it isn't a total loss if an account gets banned. This allows EA to artificially inflate the amount of origin subscribers they have. -

Since this is being sold as a multiplayer game with some competitive elements, it could be seen as giving someone an advantage for purchasing the city packs. True, it is however not going to be a bottleneck of sorts until EA opens the store and enables DLC's tied to Origin's version of Achievements and enables the ranking elements properly again. What I do have to admit is that where it comes to such matters this is where DLC concepts are ideal to cater to. Most DLC methodologies are by default and by design created to cater to human psychology. The bulk of people want to have their win, so it is only natural to sell that to them. I realise that for the "old" users of the "nurtured" SC4 that may seem a bit wierd. It is a sim right? Unfortunately, such mindsets are not what this reboot was created for. It was created for the volume market of those who do want to buy their win / rank / etc. There's variations to the theme, ofcourse, large portions of the volume market user types seek the shortcut concept, others seek the "validation" of being ranked on a magical list, yet other groups seek the idea of being part of something, and so forth. It's a bit of a scale, and DLC is ideal to cater to it. I'm imagining it might get to a point where people would have to buy a minimum amount of DLC regularly to remain "average" and to not frustrate other players who try to cooperate with them. -

How about this: extend the time it takes for typical "rush hour times" e.g. going to work and coming home, with the rest of the day passing as usual. I recall there being mods for the sims 3 created to the same effect, giving people the ability to create a more reasonable amount of time to get their sims ready before work.

Hmm, no idea either. The work "wreck"? Anyway, on the topic of this thread. I actually agree that the US government surely has more pressing problems to worry about than video games. I mean this really is the definition of a first world problem... Always good to give consumers some more rights. First world or not, a problem is a problem, and problems that should be easy to fix may as well be fixed.
