Short answer: I'm not having issues anymore. (I found a workaround for the MSI issue.) Thanks! The DIC is great!

Well now it installs correctly from the EXE, report viewer and all. Glad I could help . However, I'm still having the issue of requiring the .msi to complete the setup every time I launch the DIC. DJP: I extracted all the files from the ZIP folder I downloaded off the STEX a few minutes ago. I ran setup.exe, (from the extracted folder, NOT the zipped folder) and it completed without incident. I installed the database and the desktop icon. I ran the DIC for the first time, and it had to complete the setup. It just took a few extra seconds to start, but there were no errors or missing file messages, because I left the installer files where I ran them. However, the first time I ran, I got this messsage: I don't know if this is normal or not, I just included it to help show this was the first install. (And it has a little quirk. Where did y'all get SimCity 5?) After this, I set the preferences and the program works fine from there. However, EVERY TIME I LAUNCH IT (not just the first time) FROM THE DESKTOP OR START MENU SHORTCUTS, the DIC looks for that .msi file it was installed from to complete the setup. It does NOT look for the initial setup when I launch the exe directly, in the Program Files\eu-Contractor folder. So, naturally, my workaround is to make my own shortcuts manually and delete the default installed ones after the first setup.

Before you make a special release just for me, lets wait and see if other people report the same problem. It works just fine if I run DL Catalogue.exe from its Program Files directory. The shortcut that is installed to the start menu and desktop is the one that requires the original MSI in order to launch the program. I found something here: http://www.visualstudiodev.com/visual-studio-report-controls/new-report-viewer-redistributable-package-with-sp1-22032.shtml I think what's happening is your installer is using an old version of the report viewer installer, and won't download the old version. If you could update it to use the latest version, it should fix the issue (at least MY issue). Until Microsoft releases the next report viewer. :/ I can't really run your test because I never get to the point where it asks for install location when I run setup.exe. The report viewer installer gives me the error message I mentioned above. ("Setup has detected that the file 'C:\...\Temp\...\ReportViewer.exe' has changed since it was initially published. Click ok to retry the download or Cancel to exit Setup.") I managed to install it by running "DM Catalogue.msi" instead. Note: When I install Report Viewer 2008 (and not 2010), PRIOR to running setup.exe, it will install the DIC correctly, but I still get the issue of needing the launcher looking for the original installer MSI (and if I deleted it because I extraced it into a temporary folder, the DIC won't launch). II have a test for YOU (I'm so presumptive, aren't I? ): Uninstall the DIC and Report Viewer from your test setup and then run your DIC's setup.exe. I think you'll get the same "version has changed since it was published" message I am. And yes, I installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\eu-Contractor this time. If you're still not sure what the issue is, don't spend too much time. Just tell me here and I'll be SUPER detailed about what my setup is when I run the install, what happens when I run it, what I do for a workaround, etc. I realize I've been somewhat terse, and maybe I just haven't provided enough details yet.

OK, well, it turns out I actually can't install it. I ran the .msi instead of setup.exe. When I run setup.exe I get the following error message: "Setup has detected that the file 'C:\...\Temp\...\ReportViewer.exe' has changed since it was initially published. Click ok to retry the download or Cancel to exit Setup." When I click OK, the same message pops up again. I do NOT have Report Viewer installed (even when I do, I get the same message). If I run the .msi instead, it install fine, but I have the issue above where every time I run it it needs the installer msi again. OK, so I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and here's what happens: Whenever I try to run the DIC, a window pops up saying "Windows is configuring...blah blah blah." Then it gets stuck and asks me for the DIC installation source. If I still have it, it keeps going and runs fine. Next time I start it, it looks for the DIC installation source again.

Its here! It's here! Yay! It installed on my 64 bit system and works! And its real purdy, too. What are those lots in the background of the main screen? I had a little trouble installing. It was looking for some temp folder and said it had changed, so I just ran the .msi instead. I think it had something to do with report viewer. I have reportviewer2010 instead of 2008. Is that going to be a problem?

HA! Port it? At this stage? I'm not serious unless you pay me . Sorry. Thats why I had it in small font Maybe if I get injured at work, I'll have enough time on my hands. But chances are, my job is such that if I can't do that, I probably can't use a computer. I really hope that never happens. Anyway, thanks for all your hard work, old-timer! I've got about 40 more years of work (or one lottery jackpot) to go before I get that kind of time. I might be able to churn out a Java-based command line utility if you need one, maybe even another small addon (around the half the complexity of SC4Save, thereabouts).

Its been "one or two" more days! (Specifically, its only been one...) It sounds so cool! I want it now, not tomorrow! Will I need to get any .net run times or some such? In preparation for tomorrow? I prefer Java, myself... then your nifty program would even work on MACs... silly C++ programmers
