A very strange windows 7 bug....
joshriddle replied to dwyrin's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
It may not be crashing at all. Before you do any of this, when the game crashes after it gets passed the splash screen, go to task manager, and under processes, if SimCity4.exe is running, kill it. If that fails, let's explore alternatives. I would recommend taking the disk out if you have to do a reboot, because that may be why. I never seemed to have issues leaving the disk in all the time, so that means that something may be up with your disk or CD Drive. If that doesn't help, your CD Drive may have an issue. If you find it is the latter case, then try putting another CD or something in, reboot, and then see if that CD will work. -
Here is one of my tips: Keeping things realistic not only beautifies, but keeps the city running smoothly. It has to function just like an RL City to get the best usage and functionality of it. Like commercial is zoned along the big avenues, and the small streets or roads branch off from that avenue, and off of those roads or streets is where residental goes, avenues, lead to highways, highways lead to downtown etc etc... I have also found out that (with me at least), a lot of times the metropolises fail harder than the suburbs or rural towns should they happen to fail. But usually failure these days is impossible considering almost all of us probably know the cheats, and use cheat mods or things that make running a town easier (e.g, the NAM helps traffic issues tremendously).

Are you even unzipping them in the first place? Or are you even looking in the right place?

@ufjhgvpdl: YOu have to get the BAT Update if you want to make your BAT buildings light up at night, a guide on how to do that is here: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=91793&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear. It is at the bottom of the first post in the thread.

gtribe: You must have a pretty big region to have to use that many power plants. I'd bet your pollution is in the red. The red ground suits it. Oh and are those streets going through the center really necessary? nathanthemayor: Looks like IHT, but I wouldn't mind stealing your demand. I could use it... I'll post more when I can.

Problem: Industry generates no workers traffic. Is this normal?
joshriddle replied to Zhim's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I've found building up a certain way helps... however don't try using this if you are nothing but urban building, which most of you are. Like the Nonny Moose said, there are a bunch of idiots who can't get their duffs off the couch living in your city feasting off welfare, because they can't walk across the street to the gas station to go to work. Usually I drag an avenue, or an NWM avenue, through a portion of the city. Then I drag RHW across the entire tile. I make this avenue go to the RHW, sometimes end in an intersection with the RHW, or sometimes use a ramp or build an interchange. Generally if you zone commercial along this avenue, after activiating Buggi's demand ordinance, you can zone residental behind these commercial zones, like so. X is commercial, O is Residental: XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX You get the idea. Then once the city starts getting big enough, at the end of the avenue, I zone industry, and drag the avenue to the nearest border, and make a neighbor connection for freight. Sometimes they use RHW though. So then it looks like this. I is industry. I of course seperate the residental and commercial from the industry to avoid pollution, usually with trees or parks. P indicates those trees or parks. XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXOOXXXXXXXXXXXXX PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII I have found doing something like this keeps people from complaining about commutes. At first you get the no job zot, but it goes away after awhile, when the see the work. Usually they are only commuting at the most 20 tiles. Also remember to keep traffic steady. -
One of the main things to remember is that you can always turn down funding for an individual social building. Meaning lower school bus/ambulance funding, so that it only covers the areas you want covered. Lower funding just above the number of patients/students. The same can be applied to power plants. Water buildings, they can be lowered to an average amount. This sometimes affects output, so be very careful! Another thing that you can do is lower transportion funding about 20% down without getting any potholes. The same for mass transit. You can also lower airport funding to a level where it is averaged out as well, just like water buildings. Gaining money is easy by raising taxes for all zone types from between 9.0% and 10.0%. However be careful not to go any higher, unless you are trying to drive someone out of town. Garbage is a killer of funding. That is why you must stop zoning landfills once the total monthly cost hits 5-6000 dollars. Landfills are extrememly expensive, and they can be replaced with trash incinerators that can also be lowered down to $0, meaning no power output, and it still destroys trash in the tons. Don't bother with the expensive yet extremely insufficient recycling plants. Issuing the 'Legalize gambling" ordinance helps too, but beware, as this does raise crime effects slightly. You may be using that extra hundred bucks for police stations. However once the reward is unlocked (casino), place it, and it gives you an extra $350 dollars a month. Beware though, as this also affects crime rates. But that is what I used to do. I just use the Money tree or moolah cheat now,

Got another one for ya! Phew! This time it is a series of lakes called Myon Lakes. This is a fantasy map, (i.e, it doesn't exist in Real Life) The map is good for almost any playing style, in some areas it is a challenge due to sloping hills, some may like it because of the water, some may like it because of the flat areas. All it is missing is mountains, but it almost has a little something something for everyone. This map is 5x5, all large city tiles, meaning it is 20x20 KM, a little over 10x10 miles. It requires SC4 TerraFormer or Mapper to import into the game. Links and instructions are in the readme. Thanks for viewing!
