this is the first picture ive ever posted. its a basic DDI. tell me what you think.
-
its more of an aesthetic experiment then an exercise of utility. i probably wouldn't use it in a city either. i was just trying to play around with the new RHW 4.0. the may 10 NAM, RHW and NWM all turned out pretty cool.
-
i had that problem before, try downloading earlier in the morning. i downloaded the May 10 NAM this morning...it took 2 minutes. which is alot better then 20 minutes.

are you using 'simulator Z' for the traffic pathfinder?
-
theres a mod called RCI Multi mod that can alter what kind of jobs get offered to which kind of wealth level. you might find it useful.

Abandoned due to commute time...
PrinceErik replied to Shazadkashmir's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
are you using the default pathfinder? you can change it in the NAM files. 'Simulator Z' might work for you, its a more realistic pathfinder, and the sims commute longer distances. -
exit ramps might need to be placed on the tile adjacent to the tile occupied by the rural highway (not on top of it). also keep in mind the direction that the traffic is moving. an exit ramp needs to be placed so the traffic moves off the highway in the same direction. meaning that in the picture above, the entrance ramp is congruent with the direction of the traffic, in order for it to become an exit ramp it would have to be moving in the opposite direction, or else the traffic would have to make an impossible u-turn to get off the highway.

welcome. you're gonna need alot of custom content if you wanna build cities like those tho. get the NAM 2009 update first.

All of my demand is in the negative...

you probably need basic utility stuff. try upgrading your health and education systems. or maybe the roads are too congested so the demand caps off. -
Seperate cities for residential and commercial?
PrinceErik replied to Alky's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
its probably too long of a commute, or theres more jobs then there are people so they just work at a closer job. it could be alot of things tho. -
Hi, im relatively to to the whole custom content thing, but i do have alot of cool mods and all that, but im having some difficulty getting the Simgoober farmfields to grow in my rural cities. ive seen alot of amazing CJs that are rural-themed and have very cool looking non-maxis farm fields in them. i got all the dependencies im pretty sure but they still wont grow properly. if someone could shed some light on this problem i'd appreciate it.

the ploppable farm fields look great, i just downloaded that mod, but they're not functional. any other suggestions?

HELP - flowers, trees, fountains and other props are GONE
PrinceErik replied to campeon's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
that happened to me a while ago, i downloaded the 'SKU1 update' thinking that it would help fix some common bugs in the game but, like what you're experiencing, i couldnt even place vanilla buildings like the large park or the elementary school because they would be missing common default props. eventually i reinstalled the game. it was worth it though cuz it allowed me to organize my plugin folder. but it looks like you figured that out already. -
Planned communities & building plopping
PrinceErik replied to sicarim's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Go into the NAM files and change the pathfinder from 'default' to 'traffic simulator Z' its the best one because the sims travel longer distances and find better routes to their jobs. so its less likely they will abandon because of high commute times. you can also get the RCImulti mod which, among other things, can change and distribute jobs of all three wealth levels for each work place. meaning that R$$$, R$$, and R$ can all work at the same workplace based on a ratio. you can also create home-jobs with that mod. -
004 "Vineyards Of P'Jem Monastery"

how do you get the land to look like that? it looks like a painting. -
-basically you just need to understand the default pathfinder for SC4. its based on the amount of tiles it takes to commute rather then the amount of time. meaning that sims wont take the "fastest" way, they instead take the way with the least tiles. this is what creates congestion in a grid-type city layout. you can correct the problem by limiting residential road access so that they only use the system with the highest capacity (i.e. the highway) to get to their jobs. -but in order to do this you have to divide you city in to districts. so, for example, in a residential district you would have a ghetto (R$) with a bus system, a high density R$$ and R$$$ with subways and avenues, and a suburb with a highway. these divisions would be linked to a farm/dirty industry section, a manufacturing section, and a high tech section. which would form the industrial district. then you would have a downtown district where commercial development would take place. -R$$ and R$$$ prefer to use cars and subways. try creating a subway system that connects R$$$ to the downtown area and the high tech section. subway pedestrians will create customers. -skyscrapers wont form until you have the congestion problem under control (or the pop. will taper out). high-tech demand is increased by higher level education systems (i.e. universities and colleges) -that should help, but there are also a lot of mods that alter gameplay and if you reinstall NAM you can change the pathfinder device.
