  1. Civilization 5 Announced

    Cautiously optimistic....

  3. Choosing Names

For all those sick of settling for stupid names for their cities/regions/rivers/roads, http://www.kleimo.com/random/name.cfm First names work well for Roads/Rivers, Last names good for cities/regions. If the name doesn't work, suffixes such as -dale, -ley, -ton, -boro(u)gh. (Personally I just use the last names of the Law & Order cast; the cities of Waterston, Orbach and Parkerson are quite lively, but this is certainly good for quick names)
  4. End of the world???

Perhaps the Mayan's simply couldn't be arsed finishing their calendar and correctly made the assumption they would be using something different to tell the time in 1500 years. The world is always far more gullible than anyone would hope to believe.
  5. Forcing Tunnels

You would need to dig a hole quite deep a few tiles out from each side of the avenue, use the ground lifter on a tile closer to the avenue.
  6. Australian Discussion.

The plan to filter the internet from Steven Conroy takes the idiocy cake.
  7. Australian Discussion.

Australian politics are incredibly boring. It works pretty well, but it's just so freaking boring.
  8. The Politics of Canada

Australia has had a working relationship between our Liberals and Nationals (representing mostly rural issues) in the form of a coalition for some time, and our government is quite similar to Canada's. Coalitions work as long as no issues come up that divide the union - then it gets quite messy. The Governor-General I think is a good idea, (partly because I hate the term President), mostly because it simply it the last resort to stop some clown ruining the country. Although you guys don't have compulsory voting, which I think is the most underrated brilliant idea in democracy.
  9. BAT Request Thread

I've seen that, and while it's ok (the water restrictions have ensured no ground is that green!), it's missing the worn down cricket pitch that 'makes' the ground, and the lines/posts look cartoonish. Although I do quite like the scale (width x length) of that ground, even if it is a tad too big relative to the game.
  10. BAT Request Thread

This is a comparatively easy request: Could a friendly member please create an local Australian Rules Football ground? The Footy oval is a staple of West/South/South-East Australian suburbia, and is just as common in Melbourne and Adelaide as soccer pitches in England or football pitches in the US. Suburban grounds generally don't have stands (ie. bleachers) and are generally used as cricket pitches in the summer too (hence the pitch in the middle of the grounds!) Pictures for examples! I don't have a good picture from the top as it's summer and all the markings are off the ground for about three months, unfortunately. Having this would make my day .
  11. With the recent focus on environmentally sustainable living, there has been a trend away from traditional city building aspects. If a city was to begin development now, would it be based upon cleaner sources of energy? Would it have a CBD made completely of HOV lanes? Or even a complex GLR system? This sort of eco-friendly development would of course contradict the realistic growth model from small town to bustling metropolis (A city with population 500 based off of GLR?) So, if one was to set on creating a realistic, environmentally sustainable city, when does the model kick in and take over development? How would it develop, and transform the CBD in a realistic way? Or would this city simply be a fantasy - is urban sprawl far more realistic? Advice appreciated.
  12. It looks like a cartoon. I wish developers as a whole, in every game, would move away from cartoony looks, because I feel like I'm too old to be playing it.
  13. The End of Simtopolis

The end of Simtropolis will be the same as the end of any other online community; when enough people get bored and find other things to do.
  14. I bought SimCity 4 at a video store five years ago. It was the normal version and while the expansion looked okay, I decided one game was enough. After a year of solid gameplay with some level of success, I put the game on the shelf where it collected dust; after realising that the expansion pack was pretty much the only way I could progress. I'm now looking to buy, legally, Rush Hour. Amazon and eBay list it as $79 dollars new, and being an Australian second-hand copies take a lot to ship. Unfortunately, being in Australia means there are a lot less places to buy games, and I'm desperately phoning stores looking for the expansion. Do you have any idea about how I should focus my efforts? Or is hoping for the best on eBay my only option?
  15. Obtaining Rush Hour

Plugins won't be a problem, (don't have any). In the meantime however, would I be best to simply leave extra space for things like avenues that I don't have? I'm quite keen to get back into this game.
  16. Obtaining Rush Hour

Thanks for the tip, Would I need to uninstall the existing SimCity, or is Deluxe one installation?
