  1. Ok, so all you need to do is: Accept the request by clicking on "I'll Do It" (or whatever it says). Where the mission badge appears on the upper-right of the screen. hover your mouse over the icon and click on the red "X". That will stop them asking for Max Man every five damn minutes. Ah ha! YES. Thank you so much, AshTym!
  2. I'd love to know the answer to this too!
  3. How do you handle your garbage?

I use the incinerator. It causes air pollution, but when placed with the wind direction in mind, I haven't had any troubles with it. I usually start burning as soon as I have enough money to buy. The dumps take up too much precious land space. As the other commenters have said, the recycling center also works great... when you can get it to work!
  4. Quick Cash Without A Loan

Hi guys! Just wanted to report that I tried this trick with mixed results on my city with 100k population. I raised taxes across the board to 16% during the hours of 1am-5am. I made a nice chunk of money, but by 3am, industry was complaining about the high taxes. By 5am, residential was complaining, and after the experiment was done, later in the day, several of my medium wealth residential buildings suddenly had 'bad neighbors'. Low wealth was popping up in my medium wealth areas, because land value had dropped. Also, several of my low wealth apartments suddenly had 'no money', while others were just complaining that it was too bad taxes were so high. So, if you choose to do this, it will give you money in a pinch, but beware the reprecussions. The money is coming straight from your Sims' pockets. If I try it again, I will only do it 1 hour at a time and see if I can get away with it. 24 hours, as the original poster suggested, would have ruined my city.
  5. youre lucky, I have about half my hotels abandoned, I destroy them, they reappear. The ones that arnt broke, release waves of taxis right at the start of the morning rush creating massive gridlock. Oh man. I want to love this game, but traffic is the biggest nightmare. It seems to me that if you want hotels, you can build the casino and/or create tourist attractions so they pop up in your commercial zone. If you want to get rid of the hotels, for now, it seems like you need fewer tourist attractions to keep commuters from neighboring cities from clogging up your roads. Also, if you keep all of your jobs filled, less commuters from neighboring cities -- keep jobs unfulfilled, more commuters.
  6. I have casinos with empty hotels and Sims standing outside saying 'No hotels here. Leaving town!'
  7. Gifting money not working?

A day later, the gifted money finally came through to my city. Yay!
  8. Gifting money not working?

Just wanted to weigh in and say I'm having this issue as well. Gifting between regions does not seem to work.
  9. Per @Charlie_Sin (PR Manager for SimCity) March 1 4:08PM Twitter status: "Tip for my fellow North Americans: @simcity unlocks on Origin at 9:01pm PST on Monday, March 4. That's 273,150 seconds from now."
  10. Is the game available for download via Origin at 12:01am on 3/5? Is that how it works? I've never downloaded a game on release day.
  11. I don't believe so. I think the only name you can actually edit is the city name. Well that would be a shame since that's always been something I've enjoyed doing in SC4. Back when my parents used to own car dealers in California, I'd rename the car dealers in SC4 to their company name, and an assortment of other businesses that I'd visited in my life. I too am getting the impression that you can't rename the buildings. The webcast guys would let Twitter and Facebook viewers vote on a name, but I noticed they weren't actually editing the building names in the game. Must have just been an 'in theory' activity. Quite a shame, because I would really love to add that personal touch to my landmarks.
  12. I've been watching (and enjoying!) the live broadcasts all week. One question: The hosts have been taking Twitter/Facebook comments from viewers and allowing them to re-name buildings and landmarks (ie: The University, the baseball field, etc.). Does anyone know if we will actually be able to edit the names of buildings, businesses, landmarks, etc. like in SC4?
  13. It's March 1st. I pre-ordered through Origin, and I don't see an option to download ("start loading") the game. Anyone know how to do this? That was only Amazon (regarding March 1) as far as I know, and Amazon changed their wording to now say: "Note: this game will not be available for pre-load prior to launch." (With no date.) I don't think Origin ever claimed March 1 in the first place. Thank you for the info! It really would have been nice to be able to download the game in advance. I'm sure that launch day will take some extra time. 12GB is no small file!
  14. It's March 1st. I pre-ordered through Origin, and I don't see an option to download ("start loading") the game. Anyone know how to do this?
  15. New Closed Beta on Wed Feb 28

I got invited too! It's only a 4 hour window. Beta 2 took almost 2 hours to download, and this new Beta is supposed to be a full version of the game. I wonder if we'll have much of a chance to play.
  16. So instead of measuring distance, we have to consider time taken to reach the desired service. Is that right ? But density is ruled by road type so the guidelines ? Let's say I want to layout 3 parralel roads of different density. How can I measure the distance I should have between each road to allow buildings to develop to their full potential without wasting space ? Let me explain.. In SC4, I like to build a road pattern with parralel roads (back to back) of different kind where I know I will build 2 X 2 zone on a street, than zone 3 X 3 on One-Way and some 4 X 4 on Avenues. By doing so, I know I should leave 5 tiles between the street and the One-Way (2 +3) and than 7 tiles between that One-Way and the Avenue (3 + 4). And also, I repeat the same road pattern multiple times and finally connect them together..By doing so, the length of my streets are the same and I get neighbourhoods of the same size. My playstyle ask me to count tiles almost continuously. So, with Sim City 2013, I'm out of tiles to count and I'm worried about my road design It seems like the process of measuring road density and spacing is automated in SC2013. When you lay your roads, there are guidelines that pop up and show you where to draw to get the most out of the space. So, if you're using a mix of different road types, I think the guidelines do take that into account and automatically show you where to draw. One thing to note: I believe there are no one-way roads in the new game. At least, there weren't wany in Beta. Who knows what could change between now and then. Hopefully, most of our questions will be answered exactly two weeks from today! On a related note: I think it's safe to say that we will all need to change how we think about SC gameplay, at least on some level. It's a new game, so we'll all need to have a new strategy. Counting tiles won't work anymore, so we'll just have to dig in and find a new system that works for us.
  17. I could be wrong, but: For mass transit: I think the way to measure would be by station coverage. The data maps highlight in green which areas are covered by, for instance, a bus stop. The thing to keep an eye on would be the average wait time, which is also shown in the data map. It's my understanding that low and medium wealth Sims will take mass transit, and high wealth sims are more likely to drive. For road zoning: There are guidelines that help you layout the roads to maximize your desired density.
  18. Hi guys! I just came across the leaked SimCity game manual and didn't see anyone talking about it here in the forums, so I thought I'd post the link: http://www.scribd.com/doc/121736732/Leaked-Simcity-manual Nothing earth-shattering, but still an interesting read. Feel free to post your thoughts! I know you will.
  19. Unable to create city

Took me 2 hours to dowload the game, and now I'm getting the 'unable to create city' error. Hope I get a chance to play today!
  20. Thanks for posting this video! Very interesting.
  21. Leaked SimCity Game Manual

The manual was downloadable from Scribd, so I'm sure quite a few people still have it. If anyone can find and share a new link, that would be great!
  22. Leaked SimCity Game Manual

Ooh! I didn't know that. Very helpful. Thank you, JayLJohnston!
  23. Leaked SimCity Game Manual

Yep! Looks like the manual got zapped. I'm glad I had a chance to view it before, but wish I would have downloaded. I'm hoping to be able to play the Beta this weekend, and it would have been nice to have that keyboard shortcut list handy.
  24. Hi there! From the SimCity manual: "You can of course dabble in all five of the business types, but focusing on one or two in particular gives your city more of an identity." [Page 26]
