Hey guys. Umm...something bad happened to me today so I was hoping i can find some advice here since simtropolis is such a nice place to hang out. Well here it goes: I've gotten to know this guy from the US who was also gay and 16 as well. He was actually the first gay friend I've ever had in my entire life. Anyway, he was really a great guy. Nice, sweet, polite, smart, intelligent and handsome as well. Overtime, our friendship grew closer and closer and soon we became best friends within a month of knowing each other. We would just talk for like hours on end and I never got bored of talking to him on MSN. There was really so many interests that we had in common! It's really uncanny but I really like him a lot! I would practically get up early in the morning just to talk to him! I got to know a lot about him and then I had a huge crush on him but i didn't dare to tell him. Then on Monday, he said he liked me a lot and asked me to his BF. I couldn't believe it when he told me that. It was a dream come true for me. I've always wanted a boyfriend who was smart, handsome and had a great personality so I was overjoyed! The only problem is that we're still 16 and we were thousands of miles apart from each other. Still, we wanted to be with each other so we then decided to have a long distance relationship. I was so happy for the past few days. I didn't feel sad at all which was usual for me. He always put a smile on my face and I really enjoy spending time with him. He was just perfect and the my first love. I loved him a lot and couldn't stop thinking about him. We even planned everything out! Once I finish secondary school and serve 2 years of compulary military training, I would move to some major US city (Boston, NYC, Heartford) and live with him. From there, I might go study in a local university. Lol we even went around sites and looked at houses and even plan to adopt children! But the thing is, all of these stuffs is 6 YEARS AWAY from reality! It looked so daunting and we hoped our relationship will last till we finally get to meet at last. I was keeping my hopes up a lot by then. Then today, I got up early in the morning and talked him. Then he said, Reuben, I need to talk you something and I knew something bad was going to happen. And the thing I feared the most happened. Just 5 days into the relationship, my BF told me that he does not know if our relation will work out because I was so far away from him and we could not be in physical contact with him. He said that its not that he does not like me or anything, its the distance that was disturbing him. The only we kept in contact was through MSN. I knew the relationship was too good to be true in the first and I knew there was catch and it turned out to be the distance. He then told me that maybe we should just remain as friends for now and maybe we'll be able to get back together once we get older. I was devastated when he told me that. I was very emotionally attacted to him and I really really loved him. He was such a awesome and cool guy. I was really in love with him (surprisingly, I didnt have any sexual fantasies about him). He asked me if I was upset and of course I said I was not. I didn't want to upset him. I also said that I was feeling the pinch too but as long as I can get to talk to him, I'm happy and satisfied and can wait 6 years for him. I was so sad when we said that we should just remain as best friends for now. I then cried to myself a lot and well, I'm still feeling very sad and depressed now. The love of my life is now gone. I just love him much and I couldn't bear to break up with him. So now, I'm asking what should I do guys? I really want to get back to him and I'm thinking of trying to mend the relationship but I can't if he does not want to. I just feel so sad now. I don't want him to think that I'm desperate or anything. I just want to know if there is still a chance we can get back together. I feel so helpless and idiotic now. I just want to be with him. 6 years is so far away and I dont even know if I can even sustain a close frienship till then. I mean the chance of me and hom getting back together 6 years down the road looks really unrealistic but I know there's a chance. So what should I do guys? I'm really at my wits ends now. I don't what to do and I really want to talk to the guy I like but imagine the awkwardness and all that. I can't help but feel giulty for everything. I couldnt stop thinking of him in school and I didnt talk much today. So yeah I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice. Thanks.

Well I've been lurking around this thread for quite some time now and I think I might as well tell you guys that I'm gay too. I just recently came out to 2 very close friends of mine and I was so relieved to find out that they are ok with at they find it quite cool to have a gay friend lol.I hope one day I'll be able to find cute and nice boyfriend to be with lol. It'll be so much fun! But I'm really afraid of coming out to my parents. They're quite narrow minded on this kind of stuff and my relatives are very religious catholic. Even worse, gay sex is illegal here! The law was a hungover from British colonial times and even till now, the law has not been repealed...yet. We're still living in the Victorian era! Sometimes I wish that Singapore would be more liberal with it's laws. The government claims that you are free to be gay but it's just that you cant have sex. Not good enough for me I say. If the don't repeal by the time I grow up, I might even immigrate. I really think that the odds are really stacked up against me. Living in a conservative country with a downright stupid law and having a family who is very religious and conservative. I'm still wondering if I should tell my parents or now when I grow up. I hope they will not disown me or break off contact with me. It will be horrible if they did.

In your opinion, Melbourne or Sydney?
Dark Avatar replied to lakeyboy's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Sydney for sure! The city of coolness! It is much more bigger then Melbourne and I really like it's skyline. All the attractions are there, Hrabour Bridge, Opera House, Bondi Beach. Althought it's not as classy as Melbourne, it is still the face of Australia and it's financial capital too! https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Sunset%20Over%20Sydney.jpg align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Sunset%20Over%20Sydney%202.jpg align=baseline> -

I really like the name London. It sounds so important and cool! I also like Bangkok (The City Of Angels). Its' full is the longest name in the world! Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. Which means: The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of god Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarn. But most of all I like the name of Singapore in the malay language. Singapura which literally means The Lion City and lions are known to be very proud. Singa for lion and pura for city. Very nice indeed!

Highway Planning and Architecture
Dark Avatar replied to joexcooldude's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Singapore's expressway system is quite well-planned I must say. 8 expressways linking the whole country with another new expressway known as the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) more coming up. Because the road system is so well-planned, jams are quite uncommon but the during the rush hour, the volume of traffic is very high and all it takes is just one car to breakdown and a jam will be formed. -
Singapore has its own light rail system known as the Light Rapid Transit (LRT). There are 3 lines and all of them are linked with the subway system. All 3 lines are located in public housing estates so its an alternative to taking the bus to the subway station or getting around the estate. http://www.smrt.com.sg/slrt/images/new_systemmap.gif width=495> width=585> width=550> http://img44.exs.cx/img44/6149/singa-bukit-1.jpg> http://img65.exs.cx/img65/858/81828331HQscyE_ph.jpg> http://img46.exs.cx/img46/4535/10223.jpg> http://img79.exs.cx/img79/5437/61036900RAIMia_ph.jpg> http://img66.exs.cx/img66/571/61037592dwarMs_ph.jpg>

Personally I like the Singapore skyline! I might be bias here.lol But I also think that HK is definitely one of the best skylines in the world. Singapore has really bold plans to create an entire new downtown at marina bay just adjacent to the existing CBD. There would be much more office space, condominums and shops, hotels, a new casino and shopping centres! Its really exciting! Finally singapore can compete with HK! >

I love KL! Its so lively and vibrant especially at night! I really love it! Everything there is cheap and the food is great! I also noticed that the city is just keeping on building, buillding and building more and more skyscrapers. The only thing I don't like is the traffic gridlock, its terrible! The city centre is very nice. Very green too I must say. The last time, I visited the city in June, I went to the Menera Kuala Lumpur and the view from there was just spectacular. I can even see the Genting Highlands! The view was much then from the Twin Towers. Hope to see more pictures soon.

This is terrible news. The aftermath of Katrina is even worse than her initial efects. The causeway is almost gone, the superdome is being evacuated, levees are breaking, looting is widespread and water levels are rising. I hope people living in the smaller towns like Biloxi and Gulfport that were in the direct path of the hurricane are able to escape. It was a good thing that Baton Roge was not severely affected. I'm wondering why didnt offcials did not use buses to transport people without cars out of New Orleans. But I have a few questions on the situation in New Orleans. Is the CBD flooded? What about the French Quater? Is the area around the superdome flooded too? The last I heard, these areas were spared and only the neighbourhoods were affected but after hearing that so many levees broke, I wonder if these areas are still dry...

I love this show! There're showing the 11th episode now on Channel 5 (a local free to air TV station) but a cable chanel (AXN) showed 5 episodes every saturday and the series ended last week. I must say though, the ending was a bit dissapointing I guess....but other than that, the storyline was great! I like the way the show portrays each of the survivors life in each episode.

The Moose Factory (virtual Bar & Grill)
Dark Avatar replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in General Off-Topic
Thanks guts for all your advice. I really appreciate it. Well, I tried talking to my teacher but she still thinks that the project is still unoriginal and that we did not put in effort at all. At least I tried, can't be bothered with her anymore. There was one interesting thing though. When the whole sec 3 level presented their presentations, I noticed that the way they presented the project was like reading a brochere. They read everything out of the brochere! They copied wholesale! Some of the groups can't even pronounce some of the words that they wrote....hmm...somethings' not right? lol. Thsi means that some groups didn't even put in effort at all.lol I think this can be an advantage to us coz ours was unique. But when we were doing the presentation, the teahcer gave us that stupid look as if our presentation was super boring. Can't do anything more now, i tried my best and i'm now waiting for the marks to be in. I hope i can get high marks for this. <crosses fingers> -

Give me something cold and nice, something that will really bring down my temper. Hey guys. Umm, I got a really big sticky situation here and I hope I could have some advice. ESSAY ALERT! Ok heres the thing. Recently, the geography department of my school gave the whole Secondary 3 level a project on geography on building a new singapore. The project can be done using powerpoint presentation or any other medium and it will be marked by the 2 geography teachers Mrs Lee and Mr Mark. We are to do the projects in groups and my group had 3 people including me. The project had 2 questions and we only needed to do one. Here's the project I did: and this is the write out: http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=07P4II4GZ7PPB3FF0IC2I9YK9T 1.) The first question was called A new singapore and it required us to suggest what we want in a new singapore, create a new landmark, introduce a new industry and reorientating one of the 6 highways singapore has. 2.) The second question was called a beautiful singapore and it required people to take 5 pictures of any singapore attraction and to create a model or draw out the pictures and to write out a poem. My group took the first question and I really got excited about the project and though it would be a wonderful idea to use Simcity to do all the graphics to show how the country could turn out if it did this and that. It was all smooth sailing, I managed to use simcity to recreate a really nice singapore and I though the pictures were really good and they were really really nice. I knew we would really get very high marks for this project as the other people just drew the pictures on paper and thats it. Most of the sec 3 level did the second question becaus it was very simple and easy and as the first seemed to require a lot of hard work to them and when I found out abt everyone doing the second question, I knew that the chances of getting highest marks are much higher now. Only 2-3 groups attempted the first question including mine. When I handed in the project, one of the geography teacher that teaches my freind's class came to our group and asked us if the project was original as the simcity pics look to good to be true i reckon. She then went around asking people if the project looked original. The way she talked to us about the project seemed to like VERY sacrastic. She semed to I dunno look down on us because I think she thinks that its impossible for a bunch of Secondary 3 boys to come up with such a good project. She make it look like we just copy and paste the pictures and info that we took from some website and call it our own. Then she said she needed to check out if the presentation was original. She made it look like we are copycats. That was the first bombshell. The second came when we went to ask her about the project again and she say that if you did not do anything wrong, then you shouldnt worry about anything and she gave us that stupid look as if she found out that we're guilty of copying evrything from somewhere. I was thinking in my head like god missy, of course we should worry since you're so doubtful about our project! We worry because of YOU ! The third bombshell came today when my friend came and told me that Mrs Lee told him that she's ok with the project but unhappy about it. She then went on to say that her cousin told her that the simcity idea is unoriginal as the buildings are already there and she told us about this just 2 days before the presentation in fron tod the whole school. My friend kept on asking her how can that be unoriginal? He kept on asking her for like 5 TIMES and she IGNORED HIM! He tried to tell her that if usuing the buildings to build the city is unoriginal then what is? and she ignored him again and told him to just go back to your seat and think about the ways to improve the project. My friend went back and then later told her that if he drew the pictures based on the simcity 4 pics will it then be acceptable? Then she said yes. When my friend came to tell me about what she said, I almost broke down. I feel like giving her one big tight slap across her face. That b*tch. How can drawing out the pictured based on the simcity 4 pics be different? They are still the SAME pictures except that one is drawn and the other isn't and if you compare the 3D screenshots to a picture that is drawn, its very obvious that the 3D screenshot look much much nicer. Then I'm thinking like why does she not like our project so much? She even went all the way into asking her family members if the project was copied from somewhere. I mean like yes the buildings are already there but it took a lot of hard work and time to place them in the correct positions of the lots to make it look nice and organised. How can she do this? As a teacher its totally unethical of her to scrutinise, critisize and look down on a pupil's work. When I came home and told my dad about what Mrs Lee said about my group project. He said that there are many dissapointments in life and this is one of them. Face it. Live with it. That was the last straw and I completely broke down. I at least exprected some support from my father but what I got is just advice telling me to live with it. I'm feeling so down now. What am I gonna do now guys? I really need some advice. Should I just leave and just take the pill and just leave it or should I confront Mrs lee and try to explain to her everything? The presentation is on tuesday and I really want to excel in this project! I am my wits ends here guys! HELP!!! This project really means a lot to me. For once, I thought I could really do well in a project. I always loose out to the girls in class because they have much nicer decorartions. -

Date: 6/27/2005 7:38:15 PM Author: N_O_Body @Dark Avatar: That's too much like real world killing work. Kids need time to play. Change is not always good. However, remember, someone has convinced the MOE that this is good. Parents should be looking for justifications and insisting on explanations of this sudden change. Are all the schools in Singapore on this system or just yours? I hate experiments in education when the lab is the school. @ ephorex_77 Drinks and food materialize as ordered. Here is a bowl of shoe string potatoes to help that along fellows. @ hym: Ice and crab legs suppled If you need more, just think hard about it. The telepathy system will activate the autochef. Why do you have trouble remembering algebra? It is a totally artificial system with axioms and all that just like geometry. @guinea: Welcome to the Moose Factory! Here you can spit on the floor and call the cat a bastard. Please don't miss the cuspidor, however. The cat has been sent elsewhere because Oakinshield is allergic. If you think hard about the drink you want, the autosystem will materialize it at your table. We have gone to a wireless telepathy system for ordering and matter transposers for delivery. @Leech10: Wow! Teak with mahogany trim. I take it this is an executive vessel? I like the final varnish job. quote> MOE did not change the system in my school. The principle choose to try out the new system. If MOE did, then all the schools here would be using the new system and well, there would be a huge contraversyand uproar because singaporeans like the current classroom system. Because of the classroom system, bullies in schools are almost non-exixtent because there's always a teacher to keep an eye on the class. And no, only mine a and only a handfull of other schools are using this system. I think the teachers are just lazy to move around. BTW, what drinks do you recommend? There seeems to be a huge variety of drinks and all of them look so tasty.mmmm...
