20 years of sims stewing on that one local street. Due to Dr. Vu, no doubt. Happy 20th SC4!

20yearsSC4 SC4: 2023 (20th Anniversary)
Sszecret replied to SIM-ple Jack's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Happy 20th, SimCity 4. For all its imperfections and annoyances, it's still my go-to 'comfort' game. Soundtrack also remains one of my favorites too, from the Jerry Martin era of Maxis. Big thanks to Simtropolis, for all the STEX, city journal content and I think pretty importantly, the community it has built over the years. Here's to another 20 years!- 46 Replies

EA boss proudly refuses to publish single-player games
Sszecret commented on Decius's article in News
There will be people who, just as proudly, will refuse to buy a game that doesn't have single player, at least as an option. I'm not saying the online component isn't nice, it might be. But if you are in the middle of a field, or your connection is down, but you stil want to play the game, you can't. And that's annoying. -
@jebus22 I don't think we'll see these kinds of videos just yet. SC5 is still in its early stages of development and I think they'll focus on graphics a bit later on.

Some parts of the site load faster than others but it is understandable, these are the first few days of the new ST version, so, as the admins said, things will smooth out in time. I really like v7 and I'm glad you kept the color scheme from ST6. Plus, the site looks more modern (in my opinion) , the forums look great and the "facelift" looks good overall. Great job!

Oh and one question : Will the loading times be improved?

This is the second update I'm around for. Saw the list of new features and I'm excited. Can't wait to use the new version

I agree with what all the others said and I think another thing you should pay attention to is the way you zone your city. If you just want to have a big population, you zone firstly low density , then mabye at 10 to 16 000 you begin to zone medium density , but not all the residential area, just a small part at a time. You'll stil need the low density zones. When you reach , lets say...70 or 71 000, you can put your first high denisty zones. Of course, it depends on how big the town map is ( small , medium or large). I succesfully reached 230 000 on a medium sized town map. So, lets recap : First lay out low density residential, comercial and medium industrial ( or low if you want agriculture) At 10 to 16 000 residents you should lay out your first small part of medium residential and comercial. And extend the industrial zones. At 70-71 000 you should put your first high density zones ( especially residential) and comercial , and put the game on the fastest speed. Then after a while put the game back on normal speed and begin laying high density ind. ( remember, high desity ind. requiers healthy and educated sims, so be sure to put hospitals and schools) Plan the town's transportation sytem so that it will not give you a headache later on. If you follow my instructions and of those above me, and if you'll have patience, you'll achieve what you want. (Sorry for my poor enghish . I hope you'll understand what I meant )

Waterfront
Sszecret commented on blue sinjid's City Journal Entry in Greater Modernopolis Region Update #6: Central Park
are you using the Stex collections DVD? or what plug-ins have u added? can u tell us at least 4? I would apreciate. Thx -
@ Tito : Well, the speed should be normal, but if you want to see the results faster ( eg you put your first large clinic and you want to see if it is enough for the surounding neghbourhood or for the health levels to rise, you can - and should - use fast or ceetah)

@ sam : Should'n you add the water tower after ...i don't know..20, 000 sims? when you ran out of building space and have to go up, and to get higher buildings, you need water. And if you add a water tower to the city and you don't know how to manage a city very well ( it happens to anyone, beginers or advanced players) it can suck a lot of your money, and you will get bankrupt quick. Am I right?

Oh, and another suggestion: Build what the RCI bars tell you to. For example, if dirty industry is highest, buid that. In time, other bars will be higher and you will have the oportunity to zone something else, depending on RCI indicator. A city is built slowly. That's my advice. BE PATIENT.
-
Well, you could try to build slowly and carefully. I mean, zone for industrial and a bit of residential, and so on, a little piece of land and then, when the city stabilises, you can add civics and other things. I had the same problems at the begining, but you can avoid these problems as you get more experienced. Here's a good on You Tube .You should watch 1st and 2nd episodes for your problems and episode 3 for urban beautification, All about parks. I hope I helped you.
