  1. Simtropolis Returns!

That's fantastic to hear! I had tried about four different topics during the downtime which all had errors so had given up hope at that point. But this is relieving to see. Thanks again for your work.
  2. Simtropolis Returns!

I'm sorry to hear about your mother, I hope she gets better soon. I had raised this before, but for some reason Internet Archive had not been archiving this site. We could've saved a lot more content if it had been. I'm not sure if there is an explicit block or something else was going on.
  3. Simtropolis Returns!

Also glad to see the site return! I picked the worst time to do a SC4 play through in April. I was surprised to see that there were very little in the way of online archives of the site - from what I could tell, the Internet Archive hasn't been crawling the site. Is there a particular reason for that?
  4. Thank you for the tutorial! Installing & configuring DxWrapper seems to have helped just about everything. I tried setting a non-standard larger resolution although the game wouldn't launch (no word from the logs as to why), but I'll keep fiddling with it and see if I can't get it working perfect. I've got to spread the word about these wrappers, I can't believe I haven't heard of them till now!
  5. Test of various DirectX Wrappers

Good point to bypass the launcher, although even then DDC still was not happy. I've just installed DxWrapper and things seem to be much better, thanks everyone!
  6. Sorry for being vague... I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to post my wrapper issues in this topic, so I made a post on the other topic here . If you don't mind me posting here: It looks like the DDrawCompat is the best wrapper as far as performance & glitches is concerned, so I gave it a try. Whenever I launch the game with it installed though, the game throws an "Unable to initialize Direct Draw" error. The wrapper also doesn't generate a log like it's supposed to, which makes me think there's an issue with it initializing. As long as I leave the wrapper dll in its place, I'll always see that error, regardless if I set hardware or software rendering modes. I also noticed that the game's log isn't able to report any information about my graphics card (name, ID, etc.) when using the wrapper. Any ideas what's going on here?
  7. Test of various DirectX Wrappers

If you're happy with the way your game is working, then I wouldn't go through the trouble. In my case, I'd like to push the game beyond its 1920x1200 resolution limit so that's why I'm fiddling with wrappers.
  8. This is the first time I've heard of people using wrappers on this game, thanks guys! I'm now having more problems with the wrappers, but at least this is a step in the right direction.
  9. Test of various DirectX Wrappers

Sorry to hijack the topic, but how is everyone getting DDrawCompat working? I've tried 0.3.0 and 0.3.1, extracted to the Apps folder. When it's there, I get a pop up saying "Could not initialize Direct Draw", then "Falling back to software rendering". The DDC log file is never created. Any ideas? (Note: I'm launching the game using the SimCity4Launcher. I've tried software and hardware rendering modes, and resolution is set to 1080p.) Note2: When using the DDC wrapper, the cardName, version, and ID are all blank in the game's config log.
  10. Thank you for replying. It does in fact seem that the game has a bug with resolutions beyond 1080p (except for that odd one which I still could not get to work). Hopefully someone with the skills might be able to diagnose it!
  11. There seems to be a bug, perhaps with SimCity 4 its self, where it will crash when you try to launch it in hardware rendering mode with any resolution higher than 1080p. SimCity4Launcher does not catch any issues, but SimCity 4 does generate an exception, apparently due to an ACCESS_VIOLATION. Log is attached. Software mode "works", but software mode in general is terrible for performance. Can anyone else confirm this issue and if there are any fixes? SimCity Exception Report 2021.08.29 19.33.45.txt
  12. Thanks for the explanation Huston. What with SC2K being free on Origin, I guess now is a better time than ever to play the game. There will be much testing this weekend! EDIT: Lol? I guess they forgot to remove a file...
  13. I haven't played SC3000/U very much (it's next on my list of games to get back into), but perhaps they kept the water simulation the same then? I'm not familiar with how it works in SC3K - are you saying that water towers can be placed to help mitigate the problem? I wonder if the simulation in SC2K/3K is almost super-realistic... not that I'm familiar with water utility systems, but perhaps after x amount of distance from the nearest pump, water pressure eventually falls off until it's negligable? I'll have to try placing a pump on one my idle mains and see what happens.
  14. Hope you all are up for some nostalgia... I had installed Sim City 2000 awhile ago, since as long as I've lived, I've never properly played it. I've played Sim Copter, Streets of Sim City, and even found my way around SCURK. But I've never play, until just recently. At any rate, I wanted to play the Flint scenario, since it's somewhat close. The first time I played, I was in about 7 years; industry, commercial, and residential was picking up and I was adding some dough to the treasury. I guess I thought I had lost though, so I read up on a strategy guide Setting Industrial tax to 0% and won in about three years. I left the game on the budget window, thinking it would stay like that. Boy, was I wrong. Essentially, 82% of the city was somehow reduced to rubble. I'm guessing a gang war broke out so the other side did ok? It seems like I still managed to generate a nice chunk of cash, so I guess I'll keep playing... On a slightly unrelated note, does anyone know if the water distribution simulation is bugged? I can have a surplus of water capacity, yet some parts of the city connected to the water main don't get water.
  15. I've had this problem several times as well, playing SimCity. At first I thought it was because I had just bought all new parts, although with other people's reports, it is looking like it's origin.
