  1. Oh so free Russia!

connor_v: I agree with you concerning Stalin... And I also agree, that the U.S. do lots of non-democratic stuff while Bush is their president. Fortunately most of americans understand that now, and that's democracy. PS. It's very touching to see someone here from Canada with "Ukraine, the motherland!" in his signature
  2. Oh so free Russia!

Hi, everyone! First off, i want to agree with the main thought of this thread - Russia is a threat to the world, to the civilized world, actually. I'm from Ukraine, and I want to say it's not just Putin and his friends who are "the bad guys". Russians had Yeltsin, who was a democrat comparing to Putin, but they (russians) just couldn't realize that democracy isn't built in 5 years, and economy must be rebuilt and nation cannot become reach and successful in a year after a great collapse of the whole system. So the problem is not the president, or the government - it's people, and only people. Every people deserves its government (don't remember who said this ). Believe me, most of the russians believe those protesters were real criminals or at least were breaking the law at that day. And most of the russians support authorities' actions. Maybe it's partly because there's almost no free media, but media is part of people either. They just think - economy is growing (no matter how), what else do we need? Russia has never been a democratic state yet... They used to be ruled by a strong man. One more thing... © Steve Jobs IMHO, the more influence Russia has on a country (I mean cultural, religious, language influence) - the more problems that country gets. I admire how those little baltian countries got rid of communists, "told" russians to respect their countries. And now they are members of EU. And I feel really sorry about my own country. A great part (not most) of our people doesn't care about freedom, they want salary and cheep shows And this part of our country is pro-russian. A lot been written here... :-P I can clearify some of my thoughts if anyone's intrested...

Really perfect CJ!!! You're doing a great job... Keep on!
  4. Communist ideas

Hi everyone! I've read here many _real_ tips on creating such city (especially from those, who lived or lives in former USSR). I'd like to add something, if no one mentioned these : - ussr cities are really mostly residential, _no_ zoning, you can see lots of res buildings anywhere in the city, or a lot of industry right in the middle of the historical center (this is awefull, i know ). - residential districts are really big and not rectangular shaped. USSR's city builders decided not to build cities in classic blocks structure in 60's i guess. So you have not many roads (maybe just ran out of cummunist names to name them ), and most of them are curved. I can post some maps if anyone wants me to - concerning old cities (such as Kyiv (or Kiev in russian), which i live in), they might have very beautiful 19th century architecture with ugly premade concrete "boxes" ruining everything . E.g. There is such ugly res "box" right in front of the one of the best opera houses in Europe in Kyiv. - and, just wanted to say about China. It's "commercially" not communist now. Lots of advertisement, western conpanies - it's not really communism, is it? - IMHO it's not possible to recreate such city in SimCity. No regular blocks, no proper economic model, other way of public transortation arranging... Here are some pics of Kyiv (once, socialistic city, fortunately not anymore ): but, to be fair Kyiv is much more beautiful than that
