Alright, how's your road network? Is it green? And do you have mass transit to help conditions? If commute times are too long, Sims will look for work closer to home, which is nonexistent, so they won't get jobs. Another problem could be that you bunch industry on one side of the map and residential on the other, creating not only a long commute, but too much traffic in between the two. I try to set up my cities in rows of three, alternating employment and residential. This way Sims never have to travel more than 1.5 blocks to a job. But for now, just elaborate on your traffic.

For best results with these ($$$) high tech industries, they need to be matched with $$$ residents. I'm going to guess that most of your residential $ or $$, as it normally is. If you want to fix a problem where this is the case, fiddle with taxes until Manufacturing or Dirty demand is where you want it. So, you've well elaborated on the employment end, what are the workers like? $? $$?

Well, if you want it to be an exact science, it adds 7 growth stages to make 15. Default game buildings only go up to a 4x4 lot, stage 8, about 600 feet tall (my guess). Now, these CAM buildings smash those barriers. For perspective, the Burj Dubai model is 2,000 feet, and I believe that's only stage 14! Imagine stage 15... So if you want to build even further up, the CAM is for you. I'm not trying to sell it, I'm yet to download it myself.

Or I could time travel to the distant future when we don't have to be 18 to buy lottery tickets... Alright, priority number two would probably to find out what happened on the Grassy Knoll in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Just so we can know. And stop the conspiracies! I'd also like to find out how Kurt Cobain died for the same reason. -
Hmm... what does your network look like? Is it straight lines or curved to meet the stations? If the lines are straight, commuters are more likely to take them, as commute time will be less. Also, as you hopefully know, other transit networks are used by Sims. If your roads are clear enough, Sims can just floor the accelerator and go faster than a train. Also, I assume your lines go from Residential to Industrial or Commercial, right? Without too much excess rail in between?

A growth stage is, in simple terms, a stage in your city where a building of a certain size can grow. It's based on the size of your city at the moment. When you have no people, you are at stage 1 and only houses can grow. Then you get some population and you reach stage 2, where small apartment buildings can now grow. The maximum growth stage is 8 for commercial and residential, 3 for industry, and 2 for agriculture. Other growth stages have been added by addons like the CAM, but Maxis buildings go up to the mentioned stages. I don't know the exact number of growth stages, but you start at 1, then 3 is reached at 1,100 people, and 6 is reached at 26,000 people... and I don't know where the other stages fall in between. Hope I helped!

Why the Palm Jumeriah? It's a reminder that anything can be possible. -
Better, but not quite. A bit darker maybe?quote> Yeah, that's what I would go with. Maybe less saturation too. Also, for all the textures, you should try to add "grime". If you have access to a program as simple as Paint, you can do this with the Spray-can tool. Just take the general color of the texture you have, darken it up, and spray it around the edges. If you do it well enough, it looks aged. Don't be intimidated, it's not too difficult. Mainly, the building just looks too new, but otherwise, it's really close to the real thing. Nice work! I'm trying to learn BAT - how long did this one take you? How long have you been BATTING? Did you teach yourself or use a tutorial?quote> If you give a dang about me, BATing takes around 50 hours including about 5 hours in renders (depending on the size of the building, this is an average). I've been BATing for around 9 months. I used a tutorial on the Omnibus. If you plan to enter the world of BATing, welcome! And be sure to open a BAT thread, it's tons of help.

Seraf, I know everyone else will be saying this, but, wow... that is really good! Alright, I'm really here to approve something with Gwail. Is it okay if I use your custom queries(nybtessentials.zip)? I was going to update 77 Water Street(as well as fix a bug with it). I just thought it would look more professional. I figured you wouldn't have a problem so long as I gave credit to you, but I just wanted to check. Plagiarism is never good. No picture updates on 69 Bayard Street, though I have finished the street level stuff, and the walls are relatively close to done. You can expect a picture tomorrow. Footnote: I'm plotting to make a City Journal. Hopefully, coming next month. I'll be BATing some for that, so that will take a small chunk out of the time I have for NYBT. Wow, that was more of an update than nessecary... -

Is he old enough to decide to not play along with the parents stupid plan? Or is he still young and susceptible to lies? I'd like to think I'm smart, but I would've fallen for it at age six. Well, maybe not for six hours. Eh, make your own opinions. Then again, it seemed like he pretty well understood what happened when he was on Larry King Live...

From what I understand, the mother made up the whole plan ahead of time, this including Falcon being in the box the whole time. So therefore, she decided to cause him potential harm, probably against his will. Unless he agreed. In which case the whole family would do anything for fame. Which worries me. So the parents were the ones who made the decision to lock him up. Right? Personally, I wouldn't want to be stuffed in a box in my attic for six hours. While the media is looking for me. It's morally wrong. Plus, there's spiders in our attic.

I use this terrain mod. It's intended for New Mexico, but it looks pretty close to the grass around my house here in western Massachusetts. The mountains are a bit grey for the Berkshires, but from hiking experience in Vermont & New Hampshire, I know there's a lot more granite. The Berkshires are brown-greyish, but further north it's grey. What do you think? As for the tree mod, I use the coniferous trees in my city by Cycledogg, but that wouldn't work for Massachusetts.

Maranello, I'm speechless. It looks great! Keep up the good work! Simcity4fan12, your Alexandria buildings are looking good, and you've built a good team here at NYBT. I say you keep a balance between the two, do whatever you like, and we'll be fine. By the way, I didn't know you were from Louisiana! I don't know why I find that so cool. Dragonanime, *jaw drops to floor*... good... even if it's not New York... still... hmm, if you want I can model your building. If it's in New York it's in-bounds. By the way, we hit our 500th post here the other day. Cool! -

I'll have to keep an eye on you for the next few weeks. Best of luck! I just thought I'd upload a quickie of the west side, facing Mott Street. The only thing I've done since yesterday is add some windows and doors. Not a huge achievement. So that's what it looks like, simply. Thoughts? -

I'm too lazy to post anything good- yet I'll post anyways! Obviously, I'm temporarily off 72 Bayard Street. I'll probably release the two (or three?) of these in a pack or something like that. This is 69 Bayard Streeet, just across the street. Oh lord... it needs a lot of work until it's done... textures, roof junk, heck it doesn't even have windows on that wall! Eh, I haven't been here in a while, I just thought I'd make myself known. Postscript: Gwail: I like the custom queries very much! They really set NYBT apart from... everyone! Maybe they're too good for us... Don't worry about it too much. We don't like our members to be angry any day. Post-Postscript for Gwail: Two people sick! That's got to to be bad. My best friend got really sick last week, and he just got better yesterday. I heard it could have been H1N1, but it was probably not. I've been paranoid all week... well, I can sympathize. -
Why did you choose your username?
Jumpthefence replied to 3dpuzzlemaster's topic in Simtropolis Related
Y'know I use my nickname several places on the Internet , but I'm not sure why. I heard it once and I thought, hey, that's sort of catchy, I'm going to plagiarize it. So here I am today. -
My guess is that you reach the specifications for the mission, start it, and then while the countdown is happening, the specifications are no longer achieved. Then the game rejects the mission. As you may or may not know, the game can get sort of stuck like this. It thinks you can start missions, then it stops you. That's just my guess.

how to i make use of these airplanes?
Jumpthefence replied to woopypooky's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
From the looks of it, what you downloaded are only props. This means you can find them the Lot Editor, but not the game. Do you have to Lot Editor? If so, look under the props tab to see if they're somewhere in there. EDIT: Yeah, what psander5 said. -

Last night was the school dance. I didn't want to go. BAT time! Y'know, I'm pretty proud of the roof texture, even if it is too saturated, too simple, and a bit too colorful. But hey, I did it with nothing but the Paint program. So I worked on the roof. Looking at the models on Google Earth, I could only make out that huge HVAC unit and the roof access. I just made up the rest. It could use a little more work and details on the roof texture and some elements (especially the stairs), but it's not bad. As for the green roof overhang, what was I thinking? Meh, I'll fix the texture on it and keep it there. On the walls, I don't exactly know what color to make it. What did you have in mind? The color right now looks pretty close to the Google Street View one... Hmm... I added the final shape details on the wall, like the carvings and AC units. As for street level, I finally figured out what the Gizmo selection under UVW Map does! Yeah, I'm ignorant and new, what you gonna do about it? I used it to fit the logos onto the posters. If anyone cares, the are (left to right) Red Lobster, DHL, FedEx, Subway, and IKEA. Why would these be advertised in Chinatown? Who cares. Also, I need new textures along the walls, especially for Wonton Garden. That's next. Anything else? -

Let's see some progress! Any comments on the new wall color? Personally, it could use some more red, just a bit, but it's pretty close otherwise. Also, I need help with roof junk. The pictures I get (Google Maps and Bing Maps) are too fuzzy. If I can't pick out what's an HVAC unit, or storage unit, I'll just make them up. It's pretty close to done, I say with some digression. The textures need some(a lot, actually) work, and the roof is far from done, but I'm confident. It could be done within a week or two. Shoot, that's a jinx. Any ideas? Anyone? Oooh! A new Mythbusters episode about duct tape! I must watch it... See ya! -

Ah yes... Columbus Day! The day we celebrate a guy who did nothing new. The Vikings were the first to make it here from Europe. Amerigo Vespucci really discovered it was a new continent. Christopher Columbus wasn't even a household name until the late 18th century, when he was given his own holiday. Maybe that's one reason why October is so weird... or maybe it's Halloween? Either way, October is like watching a 31 day marathon of LOST. To anyone who actually read all that: You have nothing better to do, do you? I am glad I got the day off. So I can sit and BAT all day. Any notes? Yes: Roof junk Revise wall colors (more yellow?) New textures nearly everywhere, for that matter Fix windows (colors and designs) More junk But actually, the street level junk is nearly done. Except for some new textures, the shapes are done. Supposedly. So, suggestions? Other random notes: -Since my last post, Google updated Street View for Mott Street. It threw me off, but I'm back on track. -The giant letters on the wall there say "NYBT" in Chinese Traditional. -
How long does it take you to BAT?
Jumpthefence replied to Liberater444's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Well, my professial, STEX quality BATs come out only once a month, more or less. Then again, I usually only BAT weekends or 1-2 hours on weekday nights. Overall, a single BAT probably takes 30-40 hours including renders. Just keep in mind, I'm sort of new to this. I still have a lot of practice and learning ahead of me. As Kryptowhite said some weeks ago: "believe me, when you remake something 2 or 3 times, you become so fast it won't be tedious anymore. I can make the prudential center facade in about 30 minutes now haha." Everything gets better and faster with practice. PS I've never seen you on the STEX... if you are new, welcome to BATing! -

77 Water Street, Financial District, Manhattan, New York, New York, United States Situated strategically in the financial and insurance districts of Lower Manhattan, 77 Water Street is only minutes from NYSE, and several headquarters of major American businesses. At only 26 stories, it was a short building relative to the skyscrapers around it. Homorously, the owners built a fake runway and WWI biplane on the roof, just to amuse the workers in surrounding buildings, namely the World Trade Center which was under consruction also in 1970. I suggest this building if you need/want a happier tone in your city, or you just like it. It's up to you. 1298 CO$$ Jobs Grows on a 3x2 medium or high density commercial lot Also comes as a ploppable landmark with the same properties as the growable. No dependencies! Just unzip it in your plugins folder and you're good to go! There are two files inside: Growable and Ploppable. You can delete the Growable file if you don't want it to grow in your city, or delete the Ploppable if you don't want it in your menu. Don't delete both, it wouldn't have a purpose anymore. Love it? Hate it? Leave a comment! Special thanks to Kryptowhite for helping with advice from beginning to end.
