I'f I'm not mistaken, you could make it both commercial and transit, if you add the right properties. The question is, do you want Commercial or Landmark? In all three types, Comm/Transit/Landmark, you can have the monorail run through. As long as the LODs are edited properly, you shouldn't have any trouble.

Why is this? Path files can't go underground? What if we added some tunnel properties to the tiles to the immediate left and right of the rail track? We wouldn't be able to see them go under the rail, but maybe on the slope.

Stand alone horse props..can this be made?
ardecila replied to dolphin66's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Like the horses that appear when you place fauna in God Mode? These haven't really been manipulated or explored yet. Not to burst your bubble, but that sort of thing takes a backseat to pathfinding, new transit lots, and BAT. I would like to do some modding, but I can't really find the most basic information, like what types of files reside in each dat. Luckily, the horses are full-fledged 3d, so not only can we extract them to props, we can have them do things. Maxis didn't really make the movement perfect, so we have horses galloping diagonally while facing forwards. Perhaps we can fix this. If we can get them to follow paths in some way or another, we can make racetracks, horse farms, stables, you name it. -

This comes in two versions. The first is a normal water tower lot thatprovides 20000 cubic meters of water. The second is a water tower witha Simlent Cellular tower built in. It costs 750 simoleons and alsoprovides 20000 cubic meters of water. The added bonus is a LandmarkEffect that boosts development in the area. The invaluable barbed wirefence is r3b00t's model. Thanks! See my thread in BAT - Open Discussionfor information on custom labelling. Lot: 2x2 Cost: $650 for vanilla/$750 for cellular Water Pumped: 20000 cu. meters/month -
Do you live in the Chicago area? I would sure love to see some blue Metra trains, as well as the striped double-deckers.

Awesome! I modelled an avenue underpass a while ago for one of my cities, but I can't do GMax very well. Modelling is easy, but I can't get texturing right. So it looks sort of . . horrible. Congratulations on getting the underpass to work correctly.

This lot brings a strategic bombing force to your city with the B-1BLancer heavy bomber. Replaces the International Airport, so you mightwant to download joerg's Airport Modd. Have fun with the"Demonstration" display on the flight line. Simulate a lockdown withthe double-gate security system. Who knows? Maybe someday, you'll beable to pilot a B-1B yourself. The B-1B model was obtained from a public-domain mesh at 3dCafe, then simplified and textured by me. -
Wow. When you moved the vertices on the vertical columns, did you weld the vertices you moved together?

If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the diamond pattern? I tried it a few weeks ago, and while the shape was pretty easy, I had no clue on the diamonds.

simmars-forum-threads Sim Mars Textures.
ardecila replied to GouRou's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
The chlorophyll thing - chlorophyll is only one of the pigments that plants have. There are also carotenoids and xanthophylls (the yellows and oranges you get in autumn). They are different colors to maximize their effect on electrons through the changing light conditions. So, plants on Mars might need to be a totally different color to suit the atmosphere of the Red Planet. Not to give you guys extra work - I don't hink anybody's actually done a study. -
Are you planning to model the Tenerife Opera House? It graces the cover of the most recent Architectural Record.

Building Log: L.A. Intl Airport Theme Building
ardecila replied to DoubleJ2K's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I don't know what the gate looks like, but the arches I would model with a lofted (I hate that name) spline. You choose a path and then choose a shape. It's like extruding, but not in a straight line. Attached is a quickie. -

OMG . . . . I fear for my poly count . . . -
Getting back on topic, some of the High-Tech buildings look Futurist/Art Deco, great for your Century of Progress, Zeb. The 'Mart - Hadn't really considered it. Wells St. runs on a diagonal next to it, leading to the same type of problems that prevent Times Square and/or the Flatiron building. I MIGHT model Soldier Field. I also like the old Soldier Field immensely. However, SFII IS a Chicago landmark. I like to think of it like Alaska - perceived as worthless until we got there. To settle some sports-related issues in this thread - As much as I would LOVE to start a baseball-related flame war with Chozo, I think we should keep such real-life-based grudges OUT of SimCity, and this board. I DON'T work at Wrigley Field, which is why I wrote my team. BTW, while the Cardinals are the bane of every Cubs fan, I do like St. Louis, and plan to simulate it (after the GMax). It's a beautiful city, not too big, not too small, with great amenities. (You can city-brag, I can too.)

As for the Approval mod idea, I had an idea for how it might possibly work. A second tier of zoning(a fourth zone type in the RCI menu) is created, that of Buildings by Approval. You zone your area R/C/I, then zone BbA over it. You name the lot and then when the factors are right, a developer will approach you with several designs for the building (all on the same density) in a modified version of Lot Editor. You can place any combination of buildings on the lot, and the lot is saved into the development simulator. The cool thing is that the building will grow on your empty lot, but it won't become a ploppable. BTW, in large US-style subdivisions, cities approve the architect/s, not each design.

Once I become uber-talented in GMAX (a foreseeable event, IMO ), I'm going to model my team's workplace, so to speak - the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field.
