  1. Earth Hour

I know many are upset that us out here in the Americas don't help with these things.. well thats actually going to change this year. As many do know, Los angeles is geogrpahically the largest city in the US, and this year has agreed to join Earth Hour. Now although our impact wouldn't be as big as say.. New York shutting off, this can be considered a significant thing for the West.. especially since LA doesn't normally do these things. Downtown is expected to shut off, including the US Bank tower.. that tall building in the middle of downtown. City Hall will shut, and even LAX has agreed to shut off much of the front display light, like those glowing pillars. Many airlines going into LAX have said that they will run on dim light when it is safe to do so, to help. The Griffith Park Observatory will shut off as well, but be open to the public to gaze at either the darken city, or the sky. Personally, I would love it if they could make all the freeways out here shut off for an hour.. but that may be a bit dangerous. Though it would be fun to see all the cars on the freeways shut off their lights for an hour.. Oh! and many hotels and resturants will be offering candlelight dinners, for example, during that hour. Los Angeles, California will go dark in March.

  6. New City Journal Starts on Page Two!! I'll try to get some region shots up soon, however at the moment, my game is acting up. For now, I'll offer a little history. In the near-future, the degree of science's progress is unbelievably fast. However, saftey and concern had not followed up with them, and this would ultimatly be a downfall. And experiment on earthquakes and techtonic plates was conducted off the coast of the western US, in order to see if we could control the movement. However, not much time had been taken on the consequences, and the largest earthquake this region ever faced was created. By the end, the major cites along the West Coast were damaged or destroyed, but the biggest geographic impace was the uprooting of a large island land mass. 20 years later a whole new state was thriving, and was ratified into the US. the name of hte state being the name for the island it sat on. Phoenoia, named after the president at the time, President Jacob Phoenis. However, in this span of 20 years, not all has been well. War was a global things, and by the end of the first decade of the state's being, an uprising tore it from the nation, and the United States abandoned the people there, rather than fight. Year 23 saw the rise of the Pacifica Empire, where the populus Nothern part of the island quickly became the elite, and oppresed the more repubic Southern half. With countless cries for help, enough was enough, and the year 25 saw Pacfica thrown into a devestating civil war. For 8 years the war lasted, resulting in heavy losses, and the destruction of two southern cities. Finally, a group met in secret in Paradise Valley, and officially declared themselves independant of Pacifica, returning to their old name, Phoenoia. The document was carried off in secret, and Pheonia turned the SCJU, in the hopes of being recognized as a soverign nation, and admitted into the Union. In this way, they hope that the Union can keep Pacifica off of them, and they can finally be at peace. Region view to come.
  7. Its looking good.. I hope this doesn't drastiocally change what you started

  10. Real city TUTORIAL

The threads have already been pointed out.. just because you can't find what you want does not mean this community needs to cater to what exactly you want. How would a real city tutorial be any different from a city building tutorial? What makes it so different? As for your comment about how I am not the only one here.. might I point out your earlier comment that you believe more people want to see a recreational city rather than the fictional ones we have created.. which is clearly incorrect, as you can see the overwleming reponse against your proposal, as well as the fact that you have submitted any kind of evidence to back any one of your claims... so to tell me that I am not the only one here.. sounds a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. We given you what is currently available to help you out, and you still say no thats not what you need... so prove to US (not just me) that your arguement is valid. For it does right now appear only that you do not want to actuall look, but have it handed to you on a silver platter. As a final point, I must say that I have found quite a few "fake" cities on this site that look so much better than our real word cities of today.
  11. Real city TUTORIAL

First off.. what exactly makes a real city look more REAL on this site than a fictional city? I honestly take offensive at your lack of respect for those of us who try to create a realistic looking city. Secondly, if you looke at the highest ranked journals... they are nearly all FICTIONAL. meaning that your arguement that we all want to see real cities is not based on fact Thirdly, any information or tip you want can be found ANYWHERE on this site. Finally, it does sound like you just don't want to search for anything.. you want it handed to you on a silver platter. Try typing yoru city you want in to the search bar, and I'm sure you will find what you need, without demanding that every CJer stop thier "fake" city to build you some real ones. I'm sorry, but your comments are out of line, and considered offensive.
  12. Show us your money!

The funny thing, though.. those are the old and outdated notes.. we need to update the Unio...

In other news today, the 400, 5:15, 5:45, 6:00, and the 7:15 train crashed into the same parking lot again, killing 15, though in all fairness, most the deaths were done after the thrid train... This just in, the late 9:00 just made it... into the rubble
  14. What Wrong With The Grid-System?

You know.. the first time I commented I was basically saying dude your stupid for likeing grids... But here is the thing, I bet the majority of the players live in a suburban style area.. or in a European city where planning went back thousand of years... The most efficient downtown/main commericial area are gridded, which is good because it help traffic flow in that area and allows better buisness. However go tot eh residential sector, and roads break the grid for reasons. One IS to provide a kind of halt to street racing that normally spawns in gridded streets. They like the suburbs because the heat mostly stick with the money centers. Also, there is a compromise, which I do with my cities. I grid my main commerical centers, yes, but I always will throw a diagonal cross road in there. That is technically breaking the grid. Sometimes a city will have a kind of roundabout road, which would provide a kind of expressway around the main downtown center.
  15. Is there anyone out there?!

I will just say this because someone was waiting for it.. Of course there is life out there.. they are currently looking for more artifacts... give us about 500 more years well make contact.. (Cue Halo music) I'll actually put in my two cents (actually 5 due to inflation, and when comparing the dollor to other currently, I need to double it to make up the differece..) Ok, I'll put my 20 cents in later..

  18. Savoie; la Monarchie Alpine [Starting Page 20!]

It looks liek Movie is going to reorganize their nation, eh? New Flag.. a more modern approach... the Empire will no longer be an empire? (ok, the last part was just a thought... the other two is my guess)
  19. What Wrong With The Grid-System?

I would like to remind you that non grids also have a safety value. Especially in American cities, you notice how all new construction.. expecially on suburbs, the street are not grids? That is because they know what happens with you get a kid with a car on nice long stretch of stright road. Breaking the grid helped in preventing street racing...
  20. Update 3.1 Downtown Paradise Valley Pheonoia International Airport Sorry for the long wait... no excuse. Anyways, we are going to leave the mountains for now, and return to the capital. I haven't yet covered everything yet. To the east of Lake Shatanoga lies the crown jewel of the capital, the Downtown district. This is the main commerce center of the city, as well as the location for many of the venues scattered through the city. The first stop on this tour of Downtown Paradise Valley will be with the key to any city's sucess.. the Airport. Pheonoia International Airport was originally founded in 1976, built atop the old airbase from the US Air Force. When the city was founded (it was first called "Pheonoia City"), the airport was named "Pheonoia City Airport", and then in 1980 was renamed "Pheonoia State Airport". It did not obtain International status until 1986, and was called "Pheonoia State International Airport. At the height of it's prime, the airport featured three main hubs, and hosted 50 different airlines, the majority being Delta, United, American, US, Northwest, and Southwest Airlines. In any given day the airport saw anywhere from a million to 2 million passengers arriving and departing. It was the busiest airport on the island, and became the central hub of many other regional flights in and around Pheonoia. However the Election of 1993 banned half of the airport's flights, as all trade and travel to the United States was blocked. Being reduced to 5 different airlines left, the airport suffered. Most of the public refused to fly to just anywhere, and so the renamed Sheppard Imperial Airport (to go with the renamed Sheppard City) barely held on, a lifeline all that was holding it from bankruptcy. It wasn't until the Revolution that the airport saw its last action, as it ended up playing host to mass evacuation of Paradise Valley during the end of the war. As flights coming in braved the antiaircraft and fighters to pick up refugees, hundreds of thousands crowded the terminals, trying to get out. It wasn't until 2 out of every ten flights were shot that the soon to be President of Pheonoia ordered the airport to shut down, for fearof losing more lives. The RNAI cut off the airport from the capital, and while the capital burned, the Airport was shelled, and hundreds slaughtered, before the first SARF troops arrived in the Capital City. By the end, the airport was almost completely destroyed. Present Day.... Today marks the completion of the rebuilt Pheonoia International Airport. Although designed differently, many of the footprints left were built upon, and the renways and taxiways were kept in their previous state, just needed touch ups here and there. The airport is now more of a museum and memorial, in fact a whole terminal is dedicated to the history. The airport is broken down into 5 main terminals, and close to 50 gates. Its not too large of an airport, but forecasts suggest that it will be the busiest in Pheonoia again. The main, or entrance terminal, holds the only part of the airport to be salvaged. The old Terminal 1 building was refurbished and built after heavy protests, as the only standing part of the airport was still deemed too unsafe to keep. However a fight by the Paradise Valley Historical Society made sure it<
  21. Constitutional Monarchy of Mackinac

I say, nice! As I'm watching this update, I couldn't help but hear "Big City Lights" by the Scorpions... Where is the Mackinac Airways livery!?!?!?
  22. Very nice there... How do you get the curved roads and the diagonal laid buildings????
  23. Welcome Back! Ok, you know how I said next was Downtown Mt. Fresca? Well I lied. No, actually I had problabmes with SC4 (thank god for saving filies online), and well, I have little to no time. I will be posting an update sometime tomorrow, meant to do it tonight but I realized a mistake on something and had to redo it.. so while we wait, here is a teaser: Yep... try to guess what that is (SCJU members please keep hush, hush on this one! I know you know!!) Next stop will be Downtown Paradise Valley (Yes, we are returning to the Capital), featureing the above image. Stay Tuned!
  24. Savoie; la Monarchie Alpine [Starting Page 20!]

Excellent work there, Carmine, I like the stages... Where did you get the Construction lots?
  25. How do YOU name your cities?

Well, all the cities of my nation come from my surroundings, usually from the names of Neighborhoods or of Streets, such as Canoga City (Canoga Park in RL), and Sherman's Cove (Sherman Way). Others, like my capital city, are just random, or come from staring at things. (paradise Valley is Random, while Mt. Fresca came when I was drinking a Fresca.)
