  1. Advantage to Agriculture?

You can squeeze more out of your agricultural zones by making the lot sizes smaller. Divide a property 16x16 tiles with just one farm on it into 4 properties with 4 separate farms. Faster way to raise revenue and demand for other industries and services.
  2. Create a region with a large city tile with small/medium city tiles surrounding it. I usually have a sizable city already established with a high residential and commercial population. I use that city to fuel industrial growth in the medium cities surrounding the empty large one. Once they are all filled with industry, I add all the necessary infrastructure and connect them to the large city in the center; mass transit, roads, water, power, etc. This way I can already have around 750,000 industrial jobs in the adjacent cities. Then I just plan out the large city as desired and make all the connections, laying out all the infrastructure, zones, parks, and public buildings. If you have certain mods like Super demand or the cash one that lets you start of with tens of millions of $ then you can do all of this quickly and have a massive city of over 1,000,000 in less than 20 years.
  3. What Annoys Me A Little

Rionescu's right. Also, you're right; not everybody works. Just like in real life you've got the old people and the kids in elementary school. In my cities I usually add up the total jobs and divide it by the population. Anywhere between 50 and 70% employment is optimal, depending on your populations' age structures. You can apply the same formula regionally, too if your cities are really connected.
  4. The Capital of the World!

Istanbul, Turkey. It's right in the middle of all of the world's major population centers; over 80% of the world's population lives within 6,000 miles if it. It has been considered a gateway city linking the Middle East, Asia, and the Western World ever since it was still the capital of the Byzantine Empire, and still reflects all sorts of cultural and religious influences. It's also a well-developed city, and by the time Earth's nations can cooperate to a level where a single capital city is established, it will have modernized substantially. And with a current population approaching 13 million, it's definitely considered a world-class city.

  6. Pesti to host 2009 expo

I really like the trails by that pond along with the diagonal walkways.  Where can I find them?
  7. What kind of cellphone do you have?

This is my phone, the LG Vu. It's completely touchscreen and has internet TV capabilities. And yes, that's an antenna.
  8. How do I shorten commute time?

Keep in mind that certain types of residents will prefer certain modes of transportation. Low/medium wealth residents usually have no problem using bus systems, but the rich will prefer subways/el rails or monorails. Usually if you have the RTMT mod you can just insert a subway/bus station on the same tile though, which is really helpful, but sometimes you need to place parking garages near the stations to get people to use them. I once had a city of over 600,000 where only 50,000 residents commuted using cars, 100,000 people walked, and 300,000 rode the monorail/subway systems I constructed that connected to the industrial border cities. The average commute time was about 30 -40 minutes, but I had almost no problems with unemployment.
  9. Question about reducing pollution

If you hit shift+command+alt and then enter God Mode, you can make trees more easily and fill up any open spaces in your industrial areas. That helps me alot. And yea, Jezus is right. Only do the parks if you have a lot of cash to blow.
  10. Question about reducing pollution

I would download the PEG Artificial Tree or the Air Purification Plant from STEX and disperse them throughout your polluted areas. The pollution should disappear really quickly. If you don't want to do that, then placing a line of open grassy areas maybe 3 or 4 tiles thick and adding trees on them along with some parks and plazas nearby should do the trick.
  11. Cityscapes

Valasio started off as 'The Bay,' but a glitch found its way into my plugins folder and it completely erased one of my cities. There was a big hole in the region. So, I created Valasio to save all of my work. These are some older photos when it was still The Bay.
  12. Cityscapes

By the way, I'm sorry about the image size. It must take forever to load... it's wotrth it though ;-) Volero, a medium-sized city of nearly 500,000
  13. Cityscapes

Salamanca, currently the largest and most populous city in Valasio (1.1 million sims)
  14. 3. Cityscapes

Just a little eye candy... comments would be great This is my latest mid-urban/suburban city, Furgason (pop. 101,000)
  15. 2. A Growing Region

Here's somesatellite shots: Valasio as of June 5th, 2009. I estimate that Iit is somewhere between 35% and 45% built-out. The southern city of Bayport and it's extensive parklands. Population est. 400,000 The Volero-Salamanca metro area, with the industrial areas to the north. Roughly 2 million sims. The Eastward Expansion. I plan to push all the way to the river with low and mid-level development, then place some extensive parklands on the east side of it.
