While Sacramento is smaller than the Bay Area, I think the city of Sacramento is bigger than the city of San Francisco. I have lived in SF, then Sac, then SF again. That picture doesn't really show North Sacramento, and North and South Natomas, which are all inside the city limits. The suburbs stretch further south to Elk Grove, East to El Dorado Hills, North East to Rocklin and Roseville, and west to Davis and Woodland. The downtown area is ok, better than most cities. Also, Sacramento is the 10th most dangerous city in California, that's pretty good I think.
