  1. For ATI, their latest drivers aren't always their best drivers. Cat7.2 is the latest, but from what I hear Cat6.8 seems to be the most stable. This was the same thing I experienced when I owned different 9x00 series cards. That was the whole reason I switched to nVidida video cards, much better drivers. Im sure I dont need to tell you this, but reducing the number of programs and processes in the background helps. There must be something different between your laptop and your desktop, do you have Cat7.2 on your laptop?
  2. Rochester NY

Another Rochester native here (N. Greece). Has any one built the region to Rochester's layout?
  3. Just for the fun of it I was playing around with my settings. I have a 275K city and switched between software and hardware rendering. I noticed that with hardware everything looks much sharper, and much brighter colors than on software. The smoothness of the game does not vary much. NVidia has not released new drivers since the beginning of November for the 7x00 cards. I am not sure about ATI. But if you do not have the latest ATI drivers and you have problems, try them. But from my past experience of ATI, you usually have to preform extensive trial and error to find the best version of drivers. What makes it more tedious in this case, is the fact that SC4 is an older game by todays drivers.
  4. How many people use sound cards, and if so, have the drivers been updated? I have onboard sound, but opt to use my SB Audigy 2PTM sound card. I do have the latest driver for that. Its just another idea, and something to check on.
  5. I recently built myself a new PC. I upgraded from the following system: Asus A7N8X AMD 3200+ XP 1GB Geil DDR 3200 Ram EVGA 6600GT AGP My new system is as follows: Asus P5B - Deluxe Intel C2D E6400 (over clocked from 2.13GHz to 3.2GHz) 2 GB DDR2 800 Ram EVGA 7900GT Seagate Sata3 7200.10 HDD My system runs the game very well. The over clocked help a good deal with all my plugins. The major difference in the systems I have noticed is the fact that you are running an ATI card, while I have a nVidia card. I used to own ATI card during the 9x00 series, but their poor driver performance turned me to nVidia. I have not had one problem with my nVidia cards. When I owned the 9800pro, every game was crashing to my desktop (SC4D, BF1942DC, BF2, and others). Once I switched it out for the nVidia 6600GT, the problems went away. Because SC4 is an older game you might need to roll your drivers back to an older version. It will take some time to figure out which one is the best. But thats what I would say the cause of the problem is.
  6. I like the farms and the rural communities. Do you grow the farms and the towns, or do you plop alot of the buildings?
  7. Sunken HW Scenery Problem

It wasnt the depth, that was the first thing I tried. I was missing the file that bwatterud suggested. But now I can only place one tile, and my pointer goes back to the centering tool. It becomes tedious when you are placing the walls for a large length of highway.
  8. Sunken HW Scenery Problem

It works now like it has in the past except for the fact that after I place one lot I loose the plop pointer and it goes to the center pointer. Is this just something I have to deal with, or is there some way to fix this? Thanks for the help thus far.
  9. Sunken HW Scenery Problem

Thanks for the help bwatterud. I am going to give that a try and see if it solves the problem.
  10. Sunken HW Scenery Problem

I look at the description of the Rural Sunken Highway Walls Straight Sections by Buddybud (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=16283), and the links provided at the bottom come up with an error.
  11. Sunken HW Scenery Problem

Yes, I read the read me's let me check to see if I have that file. I'll be back in a few.
  12. I have come across a strange problem with a plugin pack from Buddybud. I have downloaded all of this sunken highway packs. I know it used to work flawlessly before. The problem arrose when I built myself a new pc. I upgraded from an AMD 3200+ 1GB RAM, to an Intel E6400, Asus P5B-D, 2GB Ram. So I reinstalled SC4D, and redownloaded all the plugins I wanted. On my old PC crashes were occuring too often, so i scrapped the plugin folder on my new PC and began fresh. The problem occurs with the wall scenery I use after I build the sunken highway. The picture will make it easier to describe what is going on. I included the first few pictures to show my steps, smoothing the land, sinking the land, laying the ground hw and the bridge, placing the on ramps. The problem occurs with the two scenery pieces used here. Some of the tiles placed just show the green grass, and not the stone front. The two highlighted in red are the problems. Normaly they show a stone wall. As seen with the on ramp piece, some of it works, and some of it does not. I have played around with different depths for the highway below the ground, with no success. The second scenery tile has worked for me in the past on flat land, but here it does not. I included a city picture of an old city from my old PC, where the same sunken highway scenery has worked before. I keep my plugin folder tidy, every plugin has its own folder. Double killer is used to eliminate double files. I have the game working with no crashes in game play. Any suggestion on what I should do?
  13. Power/Garbage

There is a new industry in the real world (outside SC4) that uses plasma energy to vaporize garbage, which produces energy as well obsidian glass which can be used in many different products as well as producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide that can be converted into a variety of marketable fuels, including ethanol, natural gas and hydrogen. The company to produce this garbage solution is Startech, this was recently reported in a popular science article. So getting back to SC4, this is a non cheating actual method used in real life that can be applied to SC4. Its clean, can eliminate large amounts of garbage, produces power, and gases for different uses. If this was a bat file on stex, I would use it, and not consider it cheating. The article is linked here: http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/873aae7bf86c0110vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html
  14. I recently had this problem myself. I would finish installing the game, and go to run it and it would give me the nocd error. I installed the two updates with no success. What worked for me was doing a restart and then loading the game. It seems like a stupid question, but have you rebooted your pc since the install?
  15. PEG Subterranean Mall v206
