SimCity next version ideas...
Endureth replied to cshmech's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This thread is pointless. The community wrote pages upon pages detailing what we wanted in SimCity 5. The only thing that made it into the game was curvy roads. They give a rats ass about what you want. -
NA East 3 - Private Region Challenge

Beat SimCity?? -
My won't launch now either, it just updates, then restarts (though, not completely, I still have to run it again), then goes through the update and restarts again. It's stuck. I can't even load the game now. Screw EA.

You get the free game if you buy SimCity up until 25 March. So it's basically become a sale. The SimCity "community" won't benefit from this as much as EA and once it's done they can focus on ringing the DLC rag for every penny they can when they reintroduce the features from prior SimCity games that should have been there in the first place. So basically, they're laughing really hard while still cashing the checks. Whatever. Hey, I'm a musician so I will give you a better deal. Here's some of my original music: http://soundcloud.com/endureth It probably won't be your personal tastes, but it's free so I promise not to rip you off. I'd like to dedicate the song "Hobby Horse" to someone over there, dunno who deserves it most: http://soundcloud.com/endureth/hobby-horse

I'm there but I don't see the other two guys.

"Fudged" population discussion
Endureth replied to Districtopia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Try this. Build a city of about 100k pop, then put down parks all over the place. You city pop will drop by at least half while all the buildings are removed taking the population with them. Then you have to wait for more people to move in, your city will suffer big time while this happens. In my experiment, after all was said and done, adding parks cut my population by about 40% and income by 75%. Just by improving quality of life. You like that better than how SimCity 4 did things, eh? -
SimCity Update: Straight Answers from Lucy

Companies can release good content without gouging customers. StarCraft II for example. Great game, free online service, fully worked out expansions. The game keeps selling because it's GOOD. You don't have to trick customers to make money, if you just give them an honest product, like, I dunno, SimCity 4, the money keeps coming in. -
Look, they spent a lot of effort programming the game, you can't expect them to spend extra resources learning the intricacies of how clocks and calendars work. There has to be a cut off for research or they'd never had been able to release the game.

SimCity Update: Straight Answers from Lucy

The username yuuretsu actually has meaning? Its an abbreviation or acronym? I'm not old and you've made more sense of it than I had so it's got nothing to do with your age. I figured that half the time people just mashed their keyboard and hit enter to select their usernames. lolz. Yuuretsu, more acturately Yū retsu (hiranga: ゆうれつ, kanji: 優劣) is a Japanese pharse meaning superiority. Man, I have far too many interest and hobbies to know stuff like that at hand. Yeah, we all got access to google too bro. The game isn't SimCity, it's too far detached. News flash Lucy, you're not as good a game designer as those that made SimCity 4. You tried to make your own vision of the game and completely ignored what people actually wanted even though what the fans wanted was clearly document all over the forums on this site (your biggest fan site) with "What we want in SimCity 5" posts. What made you think your vision was better than the people that actually play the game? You're terrible at your job and you ripped me off $60 with lies. -

Here's a screenie of my game list. This list has not changed since launch. It's never updated but I haven't seen one other person mention this issue. It's the same on every server too. Is there a way to force it to update? I can't actually play the game multiplayer because there are never any games for me to actually join. I've ran the repair utility, I've even uninstalled and re-installed the game. But apparantly all the settings are saved server-side or something so nothing has worked. Why can't I see new games ever?
-
So this isn't just me then, this is 'normal' for now?

I still can't play this multiplayer game multiplayer. The game list hasn't updated ONCE since launch day. It's always the same full games, never changes. I can't even join other games. -
At 12:11 am, a rumble was felt. I was ending my late shift collecting garbage when suddenly I saw the beast in my side-view mirror. It almost seemed like there was something in my truck that appealed to him. He stared at me with one eye hungrily. I stepped on the gas. I ran every red light. I saw through my rear-view mirror emergency crews arriving on the scene. Police and fire personnel where shining lights in his face, but he seemed unconcerned. He was fixated on MY TRUCK! Fire and explosions followed in his wake. Hot dogs! It must have been the rotting hot dogs I had picked up from Dodgy Meat, Co. at my last stop. He tried to roast the hot dogs before eating them but there was a slight problem, they were still in my truck! Luckily, as we got closer to the dump, he became distracted by all the hot dogs already in the dump and finally stopped chasing me, whew! The next day, reconstruction efforts began. 7 hours later after the attack and the building was almost rebuilt. I don't know what they'll build there next but I certainly hope it's not another Dodgy Meats, Co. If so, I'm asking for a new garbage collection route. The end.

I've had two Godzilla's, an earthquake and an alien invasion so far. One of the Godzilla's did TONS of damage. -
We waited ten years for this?! Glassbox is a joke...

That was easy. Advanced Squad Leader's RULEBOOK cost $80 and is a 3-ring binder... and it's not even the 'complete' rules. Some chapters to the rules are contained in modules (or expansion packs in modern lingo). If you like reading Army Field Manuals you just might have a chance of understanding the rules too, and if at least one person in the gaming group has a Math degree and another has an English degree, you might have been able to get a game in. http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/58/CategoryID/5/ProductID/1/Default.aspx -
All right, new SimCity, new journal, new music! I started my first solo region and here's how it's turning out so far. It consists of two 'cities', East Berwick and South Berwick. South Berwick: Here in South Berwick, I opted to open up with a wind power plant to get the ball rolling. There is raw ore, coal and lots of oil in this region but I started mining the raw ore and coal first to sell on the market and power the coal power plant in my next city respectively. The Wind Power Farm is off the screen to the right, I couldn't fit it all in the screenshot. There's a Trade Post and most impoartantlt the Department of Utilities. I felt it important to get that first because sewage seems to be a problem and I wanted to get that cleared up for all future cites as soon as possible. Underneath that big forest in the middle of the city is oil, and LOTS of it. I'm not trading it yet, but I've got big plans for it in the future. I built the metals HQ here but plan to switch over to the Petroleum HQ as soon as I get a chance. The cities income/hour is deceiving at +157 as I get pretty good revenue from trading the coal and ore which nets me a nice profit. East Berwick: In the second city, East Berwick, I decided since so much room was going to be used up mining in the last city I needed a place to outsource some workers and have a large patch of land for plenty of factories. Easier said than done. There's nothing underground in this city except lots of water. So I plan to make this my little water capital. But wait. I learned that to get workers from one city to another I needed a Department of Transportation to either use the bus depots or trains. I opted for buses but it was more work than I anticipated. I had to get a Bus Terminal to service the region and I'm still not sure if it's drawing workers from the other city for the factories. Oh well, we'll see. It better be. I also got a little greative with the road tool and tried to make a nice neighborhood for the factory managers and what not. I suppose I will need an Education city next to train them to run the factories. ---------- So far off to a good start. Making plenty of money, conserving land space and getting everything I need without rushing it or overspending. Yeah, it's fun, but the maps really should be bigger. That's it for today. Oh yeah, I promised new music... Here's a song from my band called "Crippled Eden", enjoy: http://soundcloud.com/endureth/crippled-eden-bass-raw

These cities probably have a larger population than the actual Berwick where I live (and we do have North, South and East segregation).
-
The servers ate this city.... I will have to begin again.
-
That's about what I had. I hand 3 trade depots working strictly oil, then three oil wells but they weren't all full. Once I got enough for it, I rearranged my trade depots to work better over all. In my new game I think I'll get it much easier and have planned room for it when the time comes. Running the new game as a City Journal as well.

Will Wright seems to enjoy the direction SimCity has taken.
Endureth replied to JaceTwice's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
His opinion has more weight, because he is the creator of Simcity. That's like saying George Lucas didn't destroy the three latest movies because he's the creator. -
I got one. It's pretty huge. Had to demolish 3 blocks to make space for it. So lame, this game is.

One way to fix the problem with EA
Endureth replied to wilbursim's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
absolutely. stop buying their games. anyone who is now complaining about the issues plaguing SimCity never should have bought the game in the first place because of the requirement to connect to a server whether you wanted to play multiplayer or not. That is just what happens when you have a server-based game. Have you never heard the term, "There's a sucker born every minute"? By the time the next major game launch happens there will be plenty of new gamers to feed these companies money for an over-hyped and under-prepared release. The more experienced will sit back and wait (or buy it anyway fully aware this is going to happen). So trust me, there is no consequence for the current practices. And it doesn't matter in the least if YOU don't buy the next game, there will be another new gamer who will buy your copy. The gaming companies will save money by not renting additional server space for the first couple months after release and they'll be upsetting entirely different people, so from their perspective, "Who cares?". -
The Reviews on Amazon.com are trickling in...

The reviews obviously don't mean jack, even though the reviews were bad, it still went on to become a **BEST SELLER** lol @ reviews -
Cities are way too small, it's annoying... They should rename it from 'glass box' to 'tiny glass box'.
