Anyone able to recommend specs?
doorknob60 replied to Simalex's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
For good bang for the buck and great performance, go with a Phenom II X4, they're beastly and cheap. I plan on upgrading to one soonish (just found out that my motherboard supports AM3 with a BIOS update, WOOT!). I have an Athlon 64 X2 right now and SC4 plays great on it too though, so one of those would work too. -

Check your graphics settings, make sure nothing's screwed. Also maybe try software rendering. If that doesn't work, probably just reinstall. -
This has the installer, but the installer WON'T work on a Mac if that's what you have (I'm assuming that): https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=851 Also, read the readme, it tells you what to do

CAM is great. -

Here it is: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=457 If you were installing the CAM and got brown boxes on this one, I had the exact same problem as you too -

I'm guessing it's probably not compatible with RHW 3.0, only older versions. Here are some popular textures you might be interested in: www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm Those and the defaults are really the only supported and updated textures out there, at least as far as I'm aware.

Also, using the RHW might make it look more realistic.

Thanks to like 1 GB of BATS I got from installing the CAM, my Downtown looks pretty nice now. Slightly old picture, but not too old: Lots of traffic going into Downtown:

FOr the past few days, the STEX has been mega slow. Luckily, yesterday it sped up significantly. Man, I coulda just waiting, took forever to download all the CAM dependencies with that speed. Anyways, I think that's better now. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to search the STEX. I don't know if it's a coincidence with my bad timing, but I haven't been able to search the STEX in quite a while. I get this: I've tried different browsers, and even different operating systems. They all do this. -
Anyone who's looking for the BAT Nightlighting Fix but the link is broken, here's an alternate link: https://www.sc4devotion.com/maxis/SC4Update4BAT.zip Maybe you could update the original post with this?

Another one, but this time it's a bit more destructive Again, make sure you watch in HD. Sorry about my friend on Skype in the background, I told him to be quiet...

I use this currently (very old): https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21305 If I install the new RTMT v3 will I be able to easily convert all my old stations to the new ones? Or wIll I need to leave them both installed? I know I could demolish the old ones and put them back but that would take many hours to do that in all my cities... EDIT: Oh great, it makes my game crash. I belive they conflict with each other...

Yay now I have a sign for Highway 1 My first SC4 custom creation EVER It's not perfect, but it's pretty good and definately good enough for me

I think on the netbook market it could do well. The only version of Windows that can run smoothly on netbooks is XP, which is 8 years old, and netbooks were originally designed to be used with Linux. All we need is a company like Google to provide a good distro (Chrome OS) that will run well and do what people want it to do on netbooks.

Bump old thread time! I posted this in show us your highways too, but I guess it fits fine in both Make sure you watch it in HD (it's 4:3 but still HD quality). Hal, it's just a coincidence that my highway video is also Highway 1 and it's the same length, I promise that wasn't intentional HD troubleshooting: -I found out that you need to have Java Player 9.0 or better to watch HD Youtube videos. quote> I think you mean Flash Player

Here's a highway Make sure you use HD.

No traffic generators used (don't even have any installed). I do have the Radical 24h NAM traffic controller though, but still, this is by far the most congested I've seen in my cities. Only 1500 cars travel over the overpass each commute though, so that's kinda weird.

Well my game is starting to randomly crash to desktop quite a bit now. Also, it loads slower and when I try to exit the game it just locks up. I changed it to only use of of my cores by using this command (I'm using Linux): taskset -c 0 env WINEDEBUG=-all wine C:\\Program\ Files\\Maxis\\SimCity\ 4\ Deluxe\\Apps\\SimCity\ 4.exe -introff -d:software -f -r1280x1024x32 $@quote> The taskset part is what changes the afinity. When I do that, the game loads a lot faster and it exits without locking up, but when I try to load a city, any city I click on (even though it shows up in the region), it then says "Loading New City" (it's not a new city) and soon crashes. This doesn't happen using both cores though...wtf? I tried loading an actual new city and instead it just wouldn't load it (or it was taking too long). Any ideas, I want a more stable game... System info: OS: Arch Linux x86_64 with i686 chroot (used for wine) WIne 1.1.25 GFX: Geforce 8400GS with 185.18.14 drivers CPU: Athlon 64 X2 4600+ RAM: 2 GB DDR2 (it's only like half used when I play SC4. And I also got 2 GB of Swap space) EDIT: I sorta found a workaround. I just load a diffferent reigon, then load back the one I normally use, then it works most of the time. But as far as I can tell I need to do that each time I play. Why is this game so unpredictabler and buggy? Oh yeah, EA... EDIT2: NOOO! Renderbug has returned IF I do anything like change zoom levels, rotate, or go to an area it hasn't already rendered, it WILL NOT re-render it, meaning things look ugly, or often won't even show up. I thought the bug went away for me, but I guess it's back. No clue what causes it BTW. Makes the game pretty unplayable. I'll mess with it more I guess....stupid game -.- EDIT3: Can it get any weirder? Renderbug only affects the game when running on one CPU core......good night. Tommorow I'm gonna start messing with EVERYTHING (graphics drivers, BIOS, graphics cards, chroot vs. lib32 maybe, you name it, I'll try it)

Heh, I've 'found' two codewords already today. It took me hours to find my first one Oh well, that's what I get for being impatient and wanting it ASAP back then.
