  1. Paranor Island [SCJU Full Member]

CAUTION: City Under Construction So I thought for my first update I would show some pics around Paranor that are currently under construction (that being most of it) ------------------------------------------------- Firstly, this is a plan (and somewhat reality) of the islands main region at the very south. Red is street level Metro (GLR) and blue is underground Metro. Black is InterCity rail and brown in suburban commuter rail. Finally light blue is motorway. Killeshan is my attempt at a proper skyscraper city without going to the ridiculous extremes I went to in Normandy. Leah, my nation's capital isn't quite the way I want it yet even though it is the oldest and most worked on city in my region. For that reason I'm not going to show much of it and none of the really good areas. Melcena is my first real small town so be nice. And finally, Illian, my latest city. I have good expectations for this city and hope they're not misplaced Sky Guy: Thanks a lot tigerplayer91: I've seen your CJ too and I like it psander5: Funny you should notice that. I didn't mean the 'believed' to be any indication of a future storyline but I do actually have one planned
  2. European City Naming

In Ireland there are loads, some are Gaelic and some have been anglicized. * Ard- ard - 'high' (Ardmore) * Ath- áth - 'ford' (e.g Baile Átha Cliath) * Bally- baile - 'town' (e.g Baile Átha Cliath) or in several instances, béal átha - 'mouth of the ford' (e.g Béal Átha Seanaigh which means 'Mouth of Seanach's Ford) * Bel- béal - 'mouth' (e.g Belmullet) * Carry/Carrick/Carrig- carraig - 'rock' (e.g Carrickfergus, Carrik-On-Shannon) * Clon- Cluain - a meadow (e.g Clonakilty) * Derry- doire - 'grove' (e.g Derry or Londenderry) * Dona- domhnach - 'church' (e.g Donabate) * Dun- dún - 'fort' (e.g Dún Laoighre) * Glas- glas - 'green' (e.g Glasnevin) * Glen- Gleann - a valley (e.g Glendalough) * Inish- inis - island or strand (e.g Inisboffin) * Kill- cill - church (e.g Kildare or Cill Dara) * Knock- cnoc - 'hill' (e.g Knocklyon) * Rath- rath - 'fort' (e.g Rathangan) * Slieve- sliabh - 'mountain' (...ok can't think of an example of this) If you're interested there's a Wikipedia article here.
  3. Northern Irish MP causes a storm of complaints

Fascist B****. How can somebody in the public eye be stupid enough to say something like that. Not only is what she's saying a load of bullcrap, but she is actually idiotic enough to thing she could get away with talking about it. Am I the only one who thinks people like this should be sent to a penal colony to separate their prejudice from society
  4. The Treaty of Lisbon (European Union)

belfastuniguy: Problem is it has to be ratified by all member states by the end of the year, so maybe another vote in a couple of months. I think the problem is, the NO side were, quite frankly, making up a load of BS about why the treaty is bad and trying to scare people. Then, no one could really understand the reasons for voting yes because Lisbon only changes loads of minor things that would seem insignificant if there wasn't somebody saying ''this is gonna bring us to war'' or ''this is undemocratic'' etc, etc, etc. I think it's a very sad day when the majority of Irish people agree with Sinn Fein, an anti-EU party, on anything of this importance. When 90% of the people elected to run the country tell the population a Yes vote is good and the people still vote no, it just shows they were scared and worried if all this crap from the No side might be true
  5. SC4, Custom Content on External Hard Disk Drive

It can be done without reinstalling SimCity, but involves changing the location of your My Documents This is how you do it: 1. Open your Start Menu, right click on My Documents and select Properties. 2. Under Target, change the location to where you want your new My Documents to be, ie. your new HD. Mine is at F:\Documents and Settings\Craig\My Documents but you should change F to whatever location your external drive is. Before changing the target, create the new subfolders on your external. 3. Copy your SC4 folder to this location, exactly as it would appear in your old My Documents When you start SC it should be like nothing has changed. One drawback of this is that you will probably have to move EVERYTHING from your old My Documents to your new to keep some other program settings (such as iTunes) and for convenience. The location of your My Music, My Pictures also change to your new My Documents. I have done this and now install (nearly) all new programs to the external HD and (most) of them work exactly the same. Star Wars Empire At War never did for some reason...
  6. The Treaty of Lisbon (European Union)

I have to say this is very disappointing....
  7. Show Us Your Videos!

jj88: Thanks a lot, however I've gone on to bigger and better things then Normandy Explodingsims: Can't go wrong with Windows Movie Maker (mainly because it's the only decent free one I've found)
  8. Show Us Your Videos!

This is a great idea These movies are old but I still like the first one edit: Turns out I don't know how to embed click here and here while I figure out how
  9. Ireland has lots of roundabouts. The problem is a lot of them were built when the country was poor before 90's and they can't cope with the unexpected volume they have today (also the Irish Government seem to be allergic to building things for future needs and not current needs) This is the Phoenix Monument in the middle of a roundabout in the largest enclosed park in Europe, the Phoenix Park. The next two are on the M50 , Ireland's busiest motorway. A lot of the junctions are currently being upgraded or are going to be, bye bye roundabouts The first one is going to be upgraded, the second one isn't.....Oh and yes that is a train and canal running on bridges through the middle of the junction and a river, pedestrian bridge, and sewage pipe to the north & south of the roundabout. And last, but not least, is the sometimes scary Walkinstown Roundabout. May not look like much but it's usually full of people driving quickly, I dread the first time I'll have to use it
  10. HSRP

All monorail stations work as HSR stations
  11. Would somebody be able to tell me why I can't edit any airport files in the Lot Editor. I wish to edit airport gates but the lots won't save. Thanks in advance if you can help , Craig P.s: Wasn't completely sure if this was the right category to post in
  12. Editting Airport Files

I see...poo! Thanks sam, guess I'll just wait for some more gate lots to be released because the complicated stuff is beyond my limited effort range
  13. Everyone Read

My opinion is that you shouldn't label something like this as 'Everyone Read'. Otherwise, buying Deluxe Edition is the same as buying SimCity 4 and the Rush Hour Expansion Pack (which I can't imagine is sold anymore). As far as I know both run fine in Vista
  14. SC4 Region Maker

I don't know what you are talking about, I found this really easy to use. It's as nice and simple as it should be.
  15. SC4 Region Maker

This is a great tool, very easy to use :D
  16. Dsrwhat316: can you tell me where (if possible) you can find those tunnels because they look great. Looking forward to your next update :-)
  17. Looking very forward to this new approach, sure it will be just as great as your CJ has always been
  18. Brughurst

Can't wait to see were this one goes Smarty :-)
  19. The Hindu Republic of Jansipur

Alright, TheSixCents! I've seen your CJ's and really liked them, never new you were Irish when looking at them In regards to your message (sorry for not replying sooner, limited internet access, weekends only) I would definately be interested in joining IPON if you would give me any details, etc. that I need. I tried to PM you but I'm not sure if I did it correctly as I've never used it before so I thought I'd leave a message here. Thanks, Craig.
  20. Jargeah

Table of Contents:Page 1: Introduction and Halicarnassus Video Update 1 - Normandy 2008 Update 1 - Staunton Island Update 2 - Maps of British Normandy Page 2: Update 3 - Mal Zeth Video Update 2 - Visit British Normandy Update 4 - Election 2007 Update 5 - Riva Introduction The Republic of British Normandy is a tiny, safe, Western European nation, renowned for unrivaled standard of living. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 14 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality. It was once a British colony (independant since early 20th century) and lies next to the Northern French province of Normandy. After it's independence in 1902 the country struggled economically for some years. In World War II Pixodarus was on the side of the Allies and it's small 15,000 man army was cut in half fighting Nazis in France as they were poorly equipped due to lack of funding. There were some attempts at stimulating the economy, like building two of the world's tallest buildings in the 1930s, but these had little effect, with the economy remaining steady until a boom in the 1950s. Troughout the late 50's and early 60's, as the economy was beginning to grow rapidly, the country started to grow in population as there was high immigration and people could afford larger families. Much of the immigration came from France, England and Ireland with 35% of the population today having Irish roots. On 1st January 1973 Normandy joined the EU, of which it's citizens have always been firm supporters of. As of 2007 Normandy remains the financial centre of Europe and is home to the European Central Bank. Here are some statistics about the country: Capital - Largest City Halicarnassus Staunton Island Official Languages English, French Government - Prime Minister - President Parliamentary Democracy Patrick Smith, MP Isabell St. Clare Independence - Declared - Recognised - Consitution from the United Kingdom October 15th 1902 January 3rd 1903 June 11th 1903
  22. Republic of British Normandy

Shadow_Assassin: I'm reading David Eddings at the moment (the Mallorean) and liked the names. I didn't realize the size of the pics, I was wondering why the pages were loading so slowly, I'll have a look into it.
  23. Republic of British Normandy

Thinking of doing an update of embassies. If anybody wants an embassy in Normandy just say so. Hope to have an update later today as well (GMT). Thanks for commenting, Craig
  24. Republic of British Normandy

Thanks to everyone's kind comments. I'm not writing replies to each comment because a lot of them are just compliments (a good thing), only ones I actually have a reply to, so please don't think I'm being rude Oh, and sorry about the one short update last weekend, I hope to be able to play SimCity a lot more this week.OffTopic: Not a fan of the Green's? I think the world needs some Green governments. 2nerdy4u: I got it off Wikipedia. It's of the Scottish Parliament, I just doubled and flipped it to make it a full circle then changed the colours. Mets_Fan41: I wondered if anybody would realise the map was originally of Liberty City (thanks to the STEX uploader). I changed it quite a bit though. And as for the abandoned buildings, I think that's the high demand mod gone crazy. Update 5: Riva Brought to you by Riva is a park on a mainland peninsula, east of Staunton Island. It is home to several landmarks including the National Planetarium of Normandy and Chateau de Normandie, a former Summer residence of the British Royals. There is also one of the tallest Papal crosses in the world, directly down the road from St. Patrick's Cathedral. There is also Temple Stadium, home of the Rivan Warriors football team. There is an 11th century castle in the park which was the seat of a local lord. All of the castle walls were destroyed but the main building is in excellent condition. St. Patrick's Cathedral dates from 1423 and is one of the most architecturally stunning buildings in the world. It is also the seat of the Archbishop of Riva. Hope you enjoyed the update, I should have more over the weekend. Thanks for reading, Craig
