Millenium And Dakota North, A Regional CJ
despotism2 replied to suplado!'s topic in SC4 City Journals
Good work so far. But Super U are french supermarkets and they're not present in the US. Not a big thing though, just for your realism. Also, if you would like to make your city a bit more american, you should add more malls and restaurants. -
Very inspiring CJ. But the airport is too large. I mean the distances aren't appropriate.
-
Yeah I had the same problem. Those lazy sims won't commute to get a job. But since I use the buildingplop cheat, I doesn't make it anymore.

Mexico is such a great place, I hope i'll get to see that place. But how did you got the curved roads and the 4 lane avenue?
-
All in your cities is very realistic: spaced urbanism, and a good combination of residential/commercial giving a good american suburban feeling. The only drawback is the transport. Weather it looks fine on maps and region view becouse it makes curved roads, at close-up it looks weird. This is the main problem with drawing roads in SC4: to curve or not. I've chosen not to becouse I prefer close-ups to general views. By the way, the MIS+RHW should make your cities look even better.

Didn't knew there was so much unemployement in Switzerland, hehe. Great try anyway.

It's been a long time since last update, but this kept me quite busy. So here's Burtonsville, Saratoga Bay's largest city (Pop: 15800). First, a region view. A general view The harbour and old town Recent office developpement near the US-674 (Saratoga Bay Expressway) Recent housing. Lots avaiable. A close-up the old town: Quinsley Park and the city church Just a neighborhood Burlington Highs School (BHS) '90s Condos complex Burtonsville General Hospital, condos and new residential community. Wealthy estates. Rich celebrities from nearby Boston spend weekends here. Old Mill road The commerical center (US-674 and Lincoln Lane intersection) nter Fine housing The industrial estate and the local Coke plant The harbour close-up ...Harbour And now time for some night shots, The Harbour at night US-674 and Lincoln Lane intersection at night Grocery store at night Condos complex at night BHS at night Toyota dealership at nig

I haven't yet tried it yet, but SCS looks disapointing as a City building simulator. On the one hand, the graphics looks good, but on the other the cities are deeply unrealistic. Indeed, it has nothing in common with SC4. First, the view is inapropriate (too close), which makes you focused on a block rather than the whole city. It makes me think of the Sims. Then, the cities look to small and their evolution is weird: tall buildings among some houses and farms and space in between. Maybe it is possible to make bigger cities, but it looks like the game is focused on micro-developpement. One might wonder if it will still be possible to make those sprawling residential lots and get realistic cities. More than these technical issues, i would say that it's the game's spirit that i profoundly dislike. All in all Sim City is becoming "just a game", a sort of The Sims-like simulation focused on the individual. Disapointing. >>> SC4 for life <<<

I love SC4 and it's surely better than the 3000 but there are a lot of drawbacks if we consider the game as a simulator: -First: The overall unrealistic feeling you get while using Maxis default buildings. I don't know if it's the repetition or the weird colors/reflexion but the overall feeling is poor. All the cities look the same. -Second: You can't chose where and when your city is built. Indeed, you can't choose if your city is in North America, Africa or Europe, which of course would imply different city developpement. Moreover you can't choose the main function or type of your city: Downtown, Suburb, Industrial Area, Rural Town... And you are given no information about the year of the gameplay. -Third: Lazy sims living in the suburbs won't go to work Downtown, which is a neighboor city, so that new 4-lane freeway remains empty. -Fourth: You can't control (well i can) what houses/shops appear in your city. So you get really weird results: A $$$ Mansion (which eventually gets dilapided, dunno why) next to low-wealth bungalows. Of course, you can come to really good looking cities with SC4 but only with custom stuff and the buildingplop tool. All in all, if considering SC4 (even with rush hour) without Simtropolis forum + downloads, i would have stopped playing years ago.

Now this is the best cj i've ever seen so far. It really has that midwest feeling, with grid urbarnization and a lot of space. Do you modify the shops and restaurant models? becouse i have the same and there is fewer parking.
-
Wait a minute, is this city completely under corruption?
-
I like the futuristic feeling of your city. Really nice and the airport is great too. I'm trying to make one. That's really tough work.
-
Now this is a challening project: huge road networks, sprawling suburbs. Your network looks fine so far, but get rid of those maxis buildings, it really gives an unrealistic feeling. I suggest you to use the "buildingplop" cheat mod, so that your city looks what you want it to be.

Thanks for the comments everyone. @dfnva: Actually I used roads for the residential areas around the old town, to make it look older. But i used streets for the newer neighborhoods. I was inspired by what i saw in Maryland while being on a visit. Older streets were black and new residential areas were gray. @Mr.Beer: I'll show a region pic soon, but it's not finished.

Second update: the forest north of Winter Harbour. 1/ The trail park entrance. The park is still under construction. 2/ The Whitestone Lake, used as reservoir for the water supply of the region 3/ An old house in the nearby mountains. Some believe it's haunted.

Well thanks for your comments everyone. I will change the resolution of the pics and signature. I'll have it done by friday (i'm quite busy right now). The next updates will come with 800x600.
-
Sorry for the pic size but my screen has a huge resolution: 1280x1024. When putting them to 800x600, the appear all blurry and it make them look ugly.

@admin: please delete this topic, i've posted twice.

Hello everyone. While looking around for car dealers on the StEx, i've noticed there are no american car retailers. I am working right now on an american city and it would be incomplete without it. So I thought it would be great to have some american car dealerships: Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge... for the ones that build american cities. Thanks.
-
Ooops, i'm on it.
