  1. The Workers of SimCity

"What you see is what we sim" ... in the most unrealistic way imaginable. "Oh, I'm working at this factory here, right in the middle of my shift, but there's a company down the street that says they need me to leave right now and help them out! See you later, boss!" I dare you to try that more than once. "I just moved into this house and it's right next to a business! That's great because they'll automatically hire me every morning regardless of my qualifications. I can walk to work! Oh, except I may not go home to the same house at night. Hm." "I'm an employer and I'm going to spend my time going door to door recruiting random people to work for me, every shift! I'll start with the person right next door, I'm sure he or she will be perfect!" These are not simulations of any scenario I've ever seen, and my career is workforce development. I'm not asking for 100% accuracy but the model they've adopted for just about everything is 100% nonsense. The more I read about the choices they made, the happier I am I canceled my pre-order before it was too late.
  2. Woops. Nevermind. I figured out what I did wrong. It had to do with the Alternate Railway mod. Sorry to trouble you.
  3. I'll hunt down my other mods soon. I have farms, parks, etc. against the roads but no dirt. Sidewalks and the like show up fine in the more developed areas.
  4. Hm. I've already removed it but still, I have no dirt under my network. Grrr. What did I do?! I don't have a duplicate under my other Plugins folder.

Nice! Where's the US Bankcorp Tower? =P
  6. The Glass Tower

That's so awesome. I just watched that movie again last night and thought, "Gee, it'd be awesome if someone did this in SC4..." Thanks and it looks great!
  7. Kaufmann Stores

Very cool but so dark at night. :( Any chance of updating this with some night lights? ^_^
  8. Bancorp Tower

I love this building! You've done a great job recreating it.
  9. RH Airport Pack

The only drawback to do-it-urself airports is that it takes 4ever to figure out how to place everything. u HAVE 2 cheat 2 afford the build. But I love what you've done, I just hav 2 figure out the runway placemnt so I dn't hav lights running all ovr the rest of my city. Looks wonderful & works, too!

Date: 5/23/2004 7:52:55 PM Author: thanks cmgrafmc, i thought about that too, but i figured that spotlights themselfs were too small to see in game to include, or they could be hideing behind the front wall ontop of the lobby . i'll be working on the PDA HQ next, and i'll see if i can add anything like that. i don't think i've seen any buildings on stex that have a visible souce for the spotlights, do u know of any?quote> Obviously I'm not familiar with the programs/techniques used to model and render the buildings so I appreciate the feedback about the spotlights. No, I cannot recall seeing any building with such a feature but it seems that if you can see steps and roof junk, there has to be some way to make it appear there is a source for the floodlights. Again, not knowing the process, maybe it's possible to add something as simple as a thin ledge with some kind of representation of a floodlight...I'm talking out of my corn hole here...but maybe you get the idea?

The lighting is amazing... Originally I had a question about the Washington Bldg. but now that it's released I'll just point this out for future consideration. We'll use the Washington Bldg. as an example: WHERE is the light coming from? If you look at the sides you see the lights shining up and highlighting the building. The lights look great but they don't have any visible source -- they just APPEAR out of thin air. I'd suggest, and I'm sorry to be picky, that maybe you could add some spotlight cans where appropriate. Now, obviously the building above doesn't need those. But it's just a small suggestion for future projects. I really do love all your buildings and they keep getting better all the time. I guess one other thing pops into mind: imagine that you're walking on the sidewalk next to these buildings...as a pedestrian, what is it you'll see? Windows on the ground floor, looking into people's offices? Shops? A two-story lobby completely enclosed in glass? We have a planning commission rule here in Portland mandating that any new or remodeled building has to be pedestrian friendly and inviting (we'll debate that ruling another day). And in most cases, shops line the ground floor, the sidewalks are covered by awnings, etc. I hope you don't think I'm picking on anyone or looking gift horses in their mouths. I certainly could not do anything like the amazing work you guys are pulling off. So it's with an enormous amount of respect that I bring these things to your attention and if my suggestions make sense to you, perhaps you'll include them in future works.

So does the building collapse after five years like the dot.com economy?
