. Today we visit Portland, the largest city in the region of south (at the moment) The city is a major port town, in fact thats how it was founded. Over the years it slowly grew out from the peninsula and into the surrounding farmland, Its down town is very dense as well as its north coast area. Most of its power comes from offshore wind turbines near the northern half of the city. It has a larger railway station and a large industrial base. As of last entry we traveled to historic Lavender valley farm, today (and the next day and the next) we travel to Portland. But first we must stop of at Portland Pass: Portland Pass is a old mining town that dates back to the 18 hundreds, but around 1940 the mines shut down so from then on the town relied on only logging. Today we finally Visit Trent, Trent is a larger city which was established as a farming village, however there is now no farms at all in this area. Trent is at the start of the Western railway, and the Western freeway, it has a good sized downtown with a few historical buildings. In 1980 a large dam was built to supply water and power to Trent and its surrounding area, it is in Broadview. We will stay in Trent two nights and then continue on to Chase. . Well first of today we will stop at the tiny settlement of Warner Springs (pop 16) were we meet a friend who will take us on the tour of the Lower South district. The suburb of Broadview was established in 1966 when Trent was quickly expanding to become a larger city of about 40,000 people. Here is an over view of Warner springs with highway 5 going around it. Okay so here is a small teaser of the coming entries. We will head to the city of Trent and other places. But first here is a image of were we have been, and the entry image is were we are going. . The village of last brook is just over the pass for Blanco, and is at the crossroads of: highway 5, highway 15 and highway 3. It is a small industrial town with most of its workers working at either the Terra dam (entry image) or at the small industries. The downtown barely exists and takes up only one block, it is growing however. Just south is the small industrial park called Terra which has no residential at all, the Terra dam was built in 1978 to supply water and power to the greater Cedar valley,...

. The Town of Blanco was established in 1899 as a simple way point for travelers up and down the coast. It grew rapidly into a town of over 1000, and now houses around 3000 as it slowed down greatly around 1930. The historic downtown is the towns main showcase, that and the harbor, and the fact that it calls itself the 'gateway to Cape Blanco' here we plan to stay for the night in the 'Main road hotel'. In the far north of the nation of Southland, which is in the region of south, lies Cape Blanco, the farthest north point in Southland. Cape Blanco was discovered in 1717 by the great explorer Sir francis Welington, he also got a city named after him (Welington). The area around the Cape in well treed, however the cape its self is completely treeless because of the high winds in the area.
