AMSTERDAM - CENTER & SUBURBS
The last city we saw was once known as New Amsterdam, today we will see the original Dutch city, Amsterdam. Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, located in the province of Holland. It was built at the site of a dam in the Amstel River, hence the name. Today, Amsterdam is known for its liberal attitude, canals and stunning architecture.

Amsterdam Central Train Station is busy at all times as passengers from all over Europe disembark in the city.

A common scene in Amsterdam, canals lined with rowhomes and small boats.

This image shows Muiderpoort, a gate that was built in 1770 as an entrance to Muiden. The area is well served by trams and has several canals near it.

Another scene of rowhomes along Amsterdam's picturesque canals.

A few miles outside the city, windmills are a common sight. They were built to help with land drainage.

Small Dutch villages can be seen throughout the countryside. Irrigation canals help deliver water to the grassy fields.

Along the motorways of Holland, tulips can be seen growing in numerous colors.
