The massive Sahara Desert is well known for being the largest hot desert in the world. With an area of 3.5 million square miles, it's comparable to the area of China or the United States - it's enormous size cannot be underestimated. Today, we'll taking a camel caravan through this harsh landscape in search of some of the region's most unique sights, stopping from oasis from oasis along the way.

Spoiler

Our journey will begin in the bustling Algerian desert town of Ghardaïa, the chief town of the M'zab Oasis. The market here can get overwhelming at times, so we stock up quickly with what we need and get on our way.

At first, the landscape here is rocky and desolate - but after a few days of travel westwards, we get our first sight of the Sahara's iconic sand dunes - and they seemingly continue forever into the horizon.

After traveling through the heart of the Sahara in our caravan, we finally reach an oasis in central Mali. The locals who travel these lands known exactly where to find them - and we're lucky that we arrived on time, as getting stuck in the middle of the desert without water can have grim consequences.

After further traversing through the desolate Sahara, we've arrived at yet another Oasis, this time just outside of Timimoun, Algeria. The saucer like depressions in the dunes here give unexpected life to barren landscape.

Despite the Sahara's reputation as a harsh, barren desert landscape - life can be found in the most unlikeliest of places. Here we see the small Chadian oasis town of Bardai, located in the country's northern Tibesti mountains.

The vast size of the Sahara Desert is truly impressive. Here we see a massive overview of the desert near a rocky outcrop in southern Libya.

Our trip concludes in Djado, Niger - this mysterious abandoned fortress was once the home to one of the region's most powerful civilizations, and was truly
a sight to see back in it's heyday in the 1000s - 1100s.

Simply incredible. I particularly liked the vignette of the fortress. One day, I hope you'll release a "how-to" guide of tips, tricks and secrets of your sim-sorcery.

Desert, prairie and wilderness.
Those paintings that you produce are so artistic and fascinating.

The work required to complete this major work is immeasurable.

Hmmm...
Even if I wanted to emulate it, I can't...
